The American newsreader really trying a few times to insinuate that US fires are bigger than AUST fires like it’s some sort of competition. 😂 I’m not sure she’s familiar with who she’s talking about.

guess you missed the part about NZ firefighters being part of the team.

@@anotheruserism Not sure you understood my comment. She repeatedly mentioned the “million” acres that were on fire and that the visiting firefighters would take back lessons learnt from the US firefighters on how to deal with ours. The summer 2020 fires in Australia were nearly 50million acres. I’m talking about US v AUST fire sizes. That’s all. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Local Idaho news, I doubt she's the brightest. I think she's just trying to emphasize the exchange aspect of it, same happens when US FDs go to Aus.

Honestly, she's not wrong that the size is the difference. Its correct information but it's emphasized wrong, this looks like bad reporting or bad newreading by a local Midwest station

Not forget Australia home to trees that explode when they catch on fire because of eucalyptus oil.

US fire fighters came to Australia to fight our wild fires. They know the reality of fires Down under.

Australia is nearly the same size as the US. Picture half the US on fire. Aussies KNOW fire. We're on fire like 24/7 😭

actually do love the need to explore and seek out thrill and experience from the aussies. I have no idea how bad the fires get in America, but if they have fire fronts that stretch from New York all the way down to Miami and as deep as Atlanta then i suppose they would possibly understand how bad the fires are in Australia. But i don't think their climate would be feasible for that. And If they have muliple and massive fire fronts across the board from East coast to West coast and completely North to South, then thats as bad as it can get where no ones safe.

It's not meant to be a competition because it is all a tragedy, but why does she say "Fires this size would wipe out entire provinces where these firefighters are from". We don't even have provinces. Let alone that our most recent major set of fires (black summer) burned 24 million hectares of land, while the most burned by any set of fires in the US was 8.4 million hectares. Let alone that the AVERAGE Australian state is 900,000 km2, larger than all but Alaska for the US states. Very crappy reporting.

What sizr is a province where the fire-fighters are from? What provinces even exist in Australia for example? The US has states I prseume?

+neddy laddy This can get really complicated since 'province' isn't a term we use very often. For instance, I'm from the town of Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands region, which consists of three large suburban towns as well as several small rural townships and villages. Some people might call that a province. You can also think of council regions (the area governed by the local council) as a province. If that is the case than i'd be from the Wingecarribee province, rather then the Southern Highlands province. Of course you could also define it by something else entirely. Like I said, It can get really complicated and I'm not the most knowledgable person on the subject. If you want an idea of the size of wild fires here in Australia, when we get big ones It can cause a state wide deployment, as well as put units from neighboring states on standby. Such bush fires can burn and destroy hundreds of square kilometres as well as displace many people who have had to evacuate there homes. As I understand it, this is a bigger case then is a single state in the US was put into action simply because of size. (One australian state in land mass may be equal to four or five US states.) As mentioned I'm not the most knowledgable in these things but I hope I helped.

Wpaco Paco Sorry wpaco, my sarcasm must have mislead you. I lived in Sydney for 60 years until a few months ago. Wingicarribee is called a shire not a province or anything else. I was having a shot at the narrator from memory for saying they are from some province or other in Oz. We don't call anything a province. We might call call someone or somewhere provincial but never a province. Sorry 'bout that chief. Lovely part of the world down Moss Vale way. cheers

Australia has states and territories, typically between 1,000,000 and 3,000,000 square Km. However some states are only a few hundred thousand square Km. The fire mentioned in the news article burnt the equivalent size of the city of Adelaide.

Try 50 million acres that burned on that unfortunate fire season. Seems like bad reporting on Idaho news 6
