Wow that is really surprising. People seem to like the Quartet. I like my Cadenza and just ordered a Quintet…

Yeah the Quartet just didn't jive with my ears and my music. It has a few flaws that it just can't overcome. Cadenza is a fun budget listen. The Quartet is better details and resolution but it isn't a massive improvement in my opinion. The Quintet has me curious.

@@TheHonestAudiophile Yeah that’s a crazy combination of drivers on the Quintet for the money. I just hope the tuning is better than whatever happened with Quartet. My only other frame of reference for micro-planar + DD is the Rinko, and we know what that’s like.

its actually insane how many iems get hyped this year so easily. received my simgots yesterday, and with 20% of my library, the treble is absolutely killing me. thank god i passed on the quartets.

You are absolutely right. I heard similar sounding IEMs from the recording of Dan's audio review. The Cadenza sounded better to me.

Great review as always, Dave. I've had my quartet for about 1-month and they are "okay". They certainly aren't going to be best in price range but they can be enjoyable as you say. I'm looking forward to learning about the quintet with the 4 driver types, it has the potential to be great or an incohesive mess. We shall see or should I say "hear".

They need chunky tips. Kbear07 and switches set to 01 or 11 sounds really good. For me, that is. Coming from warm headphones i found that many IEMs have emphasis on treble and a thinner sound. Quartet sounds warm and full. So they suit ME well, but it's due to my preferences. YMMV. Good review!

One more thing, I'm also very sensitive to treble, especially 8k, and didn't get the sound I wanted with stock tips. Kbear07 solved that issue for me. Thought I should mention it, maybe it helps someone out there. :)

TruthEar Crinacle Zero Red fits most of the criteria, not really neutral. Tin Hifi T2 is more neutral but lacks the bass.

@@TheHonestAudiophile I have to say I had the same impression of the bass as you when I first got the Quartet. I left it on all night in the basement for 4 nights in a row, connected to my Shanling M1s, and that firmed the bass up considerably and tamed it down. I also find them to be very sensitive to tip choice. I am using the KBear K7 blues. And they are totally unforgiving of poorly recorded music. :) Still, for casual listening they are one of my go-tos.

I have a process for reviewing gear and that includes running gear for 40 hours of break-in/burn-in. I do this for consistency in my reviews. Thanks for your impressions and I'm glad you enjoy the Quartet. As I mentioned in the video, it didn't jive with my ears but probably will for some others.
