Absolutely spot-on and damn right! Well done Parmjeet for calling out this nonsensical and deeply damaging Labour endorsed policy whereby so-called "Maori Ways of Knowing" are passed off as 'science'... The fact it's been adopted by Auckland University is utterly shocking! In their desperation to be 'culturally aware' they're now making it compulsory for every student to do a course on the Treaty of Waitangi and Maori tikanga in their first year. That's great for those who wish to do so, but it should not be IMPOSED on all students. Parmjeet is an excellent example of New Zealand's more recent and highly diverse wave of immigrants bringing worldly common sense to a country that's been navel-gazing and agonising about the wrongs of past colonial history for far too long! They are aspirational and want their kids to be educated in world-class universities - of which NZ used to have several... These taxpayer funded institutions do themselves and, more importantly, their students, no favours by adopting and imposing this pseudo-science gibberish of 'indigenous knowledge ' as officially part of the curriculum. The illustrious British scientist Richard Dawkins was astonished to discover what was happening in our country on a recent visit to NZ, and rightly called it out. Sadly he was jeered and heckled, just as the gallery is rudely doing here trying to drown out Parmjeet's speech. It's about time the present government got proactive and put an IMMEDIATE stop to this counterproductive cultural woke madness in New Zealand universities! Finally, Parmjeet's ending comments about how recent immigrants - full Kiwi citizens like everyone else, with the same rights and responsibilities - are having to endure rude and intolerant abuse from Maori activists when they exercise their right to have a say in the way New Zealand is governed. It's great for them and the country to have such a brave and robust spokesperson standing up for their voice. I'm sure they will play a significant part in the next election in putting ACT into government in a much stronger position.

There is also the fact that Maori tribes massacred and canibalised the red headed tribes that were in New Zealand before Pacific Islanders arrived. This is why there should not be any reparations or land given to present day Maori, because they stole the land from others and because none of the people around in 1840 are still alive today. NZ universities are disqualifying themselves as universities by neither teaching or modelling critical thinking. Many of their current graduates appear to think it means criticising all that has been achieved historically from a position of zero life experience. Higher and associative thinking has vacated our universities. If they were effective graduates could identify what is great and not so great about colonisation. Constant attacks on the generations that pioneered and built this country is detrimental to all. Universities are also no longer the critics and consciences of society, they seem unable to counter arguments and ideologies no matter what their long term consequences are. They model ideological and commercial capture and no longer value creativity or their students other than as unpaid research assistants. It is time for a review like none other and accountability, NZ universities need to serve all those of us who pay for them.

Dr Parmjeet Parmar, thank you for speaking on behalf of all of us New Zealanders - who are indeed - "sick of the conversations that lead to giving one race prominence over another race". New Zealand would NEVER have become the place of prosperity, peace and freedom, with the standard of lifestyle we all benefit from today - without the hard work, the skills, the know how and working together as one, that our pioneering forebears brought to this country from all over the globe.

I struggle to understand how anyone could object to what Dr Parmar is saying. Folklore and culture are not science. The problem with pretending that they are is that the argument usually goes to cultural merits, eg if you attack my claim that tikanga, or ayurveda, or witchcraft, or feng shui are science because the originating culture is great, then the fight becomes my culture vs your culture, which doesn't really help anyone. I would have thought the opposition would love to hear a "migrant woman" speak.
