I've now had the pleasure of driving a multitude of 00's and 10's BMW's. But if we wind the clock back over 30 years, BMW was a very different brand. Let's see how the "baby M3", the E30 318is goes!

I had a 325i E30 back in the early 2000's. E30 was / is such a great car. Almost perfect weight distribution from memory..

I used to track day E30 325i manual, great cars, had two of them back when you could buy a mint one for 5k. They certainly make more modern versions such as my 135i feel a bit on the lardy side when pushing hard around corners

Oh these are such a great car!!! The M42 isn’t the most powerful thing in the world and they’re quite flat in their power delivery, but the lighter engine really suits the smaller car vs the heavier M20. An E30 Mtec 1 with a N/A k series and close ratio box is dream car territory for me. I’d happily have another E36 too.

Back in the late 80s, bmw used to buy 318i's with over 100000km on the odo for use in the F1 cars. They said the blocks were well seasoned by then. Lots of mods and a large turbo, and they were putting out 1000hp.

Nah, BMW F1 engineers modified the mounds fir the block casting for the F1 motors to give more beef to the block webbing as a starter. They def weren’t production motors.

Mate, you gotta find an E34! Preferably the 535i or 540i with a manual gearbox. M5 if you’re really lucky. Bigger n heavy than the E30 so less chuckable on the tight roads you drove here but still do much fun.

@@KiwiCarLife In 1988-89 bmw made the 320is for the italian market. altso portugal. Bc they had weird taxes back then it was expensive to have a car with a displacement over 2.0L That being said, bmw made "the italian m3" or the "baby m3". The eninge was called s14b20 if i don't recall corretly. and it share some parts like the blok from the s14 and some other parts. Allthough they where only sold in 88-89, in not so many productions numbers. Many don't know about this. Its liek a hidden gem.
