My friends laughed at me when I decided to save a super clap out e30 for my senior project. The car was overheated & it was the first car I have ever worked on. It was so easy & joyful to repair an e30 even doing major jobs such as head gasket & timing belts. After sorting that car out for very reasonable amount of $, I have been daily driving it without any issues for 2 years while one of my buddies blew a head gasket in his Subaru

The quality of this content is consistently remarkable. People/networks can put names and badges on TV shows and presenters as much as they want in an attempt to capitalize on a brand. But for my money... Jason is the spiritual successor to the Clarkson/May/Hammond era of Top Gear and Grand Tour.
@magnapilot2 жыл бұрын
Without question, Jason is the most worthy successor to the holy trinity team. The big question is who should be his teammates?
@alangil402 жыл бұрын
@@magnapilot Chris Harris would be good of course. I think JayEmm (a smaller channel) is very erudite and eloquently verbose and would make a good James May. Randy Probst would play a similar role to the Stig, but give him dialog and interaction like he has here and in the Hagerty videos. And maybe have James Pumphrey (Donut Media) do comedic 'Up To Speed' like bits and lists. And if they ever did DIY or tech segments, Streten from M5239 restorations would be great. Matt Watson for me is an honorable mention - especially for drag races. And the Throttle House guys aren't bad either. Whoever it is has to have charisma that permeates through the screen and actual deep car enthusiast knowledge - both of which I feel are lacking in both UK and USA Top Gear as of late.

@@Akash__Verma__ I saw this episode when it aired on MotorTrend as well, and I believe it was in the early 2010s, 2015 at the latest. Back then, Drive+ channel and MotorTrend were the ONLY channels consistently putting out super high quality videos, like this one, about cars. Top Gear put stuff up occasionally, but they were terrible quality for some odd reason, and they also added too many visual effects/edits to their videos (and were a show more about entertainment than facts and hard data/honesty), so their content wasn't that appealing to anyone that valued facts over hearsay.

Aah the gold old E30. A car that someones dad always used to own. A car you were dropped off in to soccer practise by their mom. A car we grew up around. All off them 1600 petrol engines or the 324 diesel. And also a car you went to see in the weekends rallying around the forest driven by Marc Duez. And in occasions went to see on the circuit when DTM hit the circuit of Zolder or Francorchamps. A car we still see on our roads .... be it the last 3 years only in the weekends in good wheater conditions. The M3 no longer is a dram car ..... just getting a good e30 coupe is already good enough. The e30 wagon was rather rare on our roads. To me the booth always has been to small to get it on my radar. We did uses to build the dashboards (cockpits) into our Opel Manta's.

Main reason is I want a late model, 325i, 2 door in white, but those are pretty rare here in Africa :( This video brought a lot good memories back from when I had my E30. Thanks Mr Cammisa.
@iHelpSolveIt2 жыл бұрын
You know why they're rare? Because people with too much money and no driving skill owned them and those cars, had teeth 🤣 i was doing a test drive for a client who said her car was not fast, driving up Table mountain at over 170km/h up Kloofnek road i hit a diesel spill, to my left was a diesel spill from the city tramways buses that used heavily lean on those corners and to my right was oncoming trucks and traffic. In a split second the car swung 90 degree left and was facing a wall put there to stop people falling down the vertical face of the mountain, a quick flick of the wheel, tap off, hand brake assist and back on the curve at 165km/h with the client ashen faced and me looking at her while driving to the roundabout ( not a real one just a hump in the toad back then)🤣 saying that no her car is not slow its just fine, drive all the way back down at 120 to 145 kmph, get ou the car hand the keys back. 😈🤣🤣🤣. The problem was clients who just didnt respect the car had teeth and huge grip flipped too many of them and crashed the two doors, four doors etc. Sadly a similar fate that happened to my special edition Golf 2 with full race kit, two weeks after I sold it to recover during an economic down turn for more than i paid for it. I warned the guy who purchased it that it would kill him if he didnt respect it.

I had a 1989 325is (Alpine White, Grey leather, 2 Door, 5 speed). Great car! Like Jason, I put a suspension under it similar to a Spec E30. Bilstein Sport Shocks, H&R Sport Springs, H&R Front sway bar, strut brace, and a set of Vorshlag camber plates. I also pulled the 40+ pounds of sound deadening out of the trunk and put an upgraded ECU chip in it for a few more HP. With some sticky rubber on15x7 wheels, the thing was a blast on the track or a curvy road. It was not fast in the straights, but like the video showed, it made up for it in the corners. I surprised a lot of people with that car. They would pull away on the straights, but I would be right back on their behinds in the next corner. The E30 is the flying box!

I haven’t read any comments so forgive me if I point out the obvious. At 10:14 Randy lifts the right front tire clearly off the ground. For that to happen you have to take several thing into consideration. First, this may be modded, but it’s no DTM car. Second, the articulation disparity is noticeable. If the left rear tire didn’t tuck WAY up under its wheel well, there wouldn’t be enough difference with the front for the right front to lift. If the rear sway bar was any stiffer, or the spring rate any higher, or the travel any less, it wouldn’t happen. Opposite for the front. Maybe the front sway bar is helping to reduce suspension drop, but it’s crazy how little that tire drops before it’s hanging. If you were changing that tire it seems you’d barely need to jack up the car. Without a sway bar, the left and right suspensions have no link. So I’ll bet the control arms DO allow more drop, in a tire changing scenario, without the opposite end of the sway bar being pushed upwards, as it is here. Let’s say there was no sway bar. That little bit of drop before the wheel is hanging would be really surprising. How does that car handle deep potholes? The tire just hangs in the air instead of touching the bottom? Maybe, but that’s a no-no for vehicle dynamics. An airborne tire is a tire not assisting with traction. But this car definitely has a sway bar, and by this shot, a beefy one. I’m saying the sway bar is keeping it from dropping any more, and without the left front loaded up, the opposite tire would be able to drop a normal amount. So I’m guessing there either is no rear one or it’s much softer, to allow that tire to tuck up so high in the well. Imagine a teeter-totter, with a line from the left front to the right rear being the fulcrum. Then, with the car sitting still, consider what it would take to lift the right front tire. Take the left rear tire off. Still no lift. Chain the rear control arms up to mimic the tire being in place. I doubt it would lift the right front. All of this while pushing down on the left rear till the rotor hits the ground, So now chain the left rear suspension up about as high as you could, and push down. I still doubt the right front would lift. But if you changed the left front fulcrum point to a jack on the frame rail just behind that tire, removed the tire, and chained that suspension up pretty high, THEN the right front might lift. The sway bar would be effectively reducing how much the right front wheel could drop in this case. To me, this all demonstrates incredible vehicle dynamics at work, and also how little stiffness is put into the rear suspension. Of course I know too stiff a rear will allow oversteer, but good grief, just look at that. Usually you’ll see the inside rear lift on extreme hard braking into a turn. But that’s less surprising, I mean the engine is up front for gods sake. Wow. Cool. Lots of words, yes, thorough explanation, also yes.

My first ever love. Rear wheel drive was pure fun, for adrenaline junkies. No traction control, no ESP no ABS… Nothing. Just raw power and your ability to drive. What separates boys from men and puts a stupid smile on your face after every corner that you take. I spent a fortune building it. It started as a 2.0 lt, soon it was 2.0 lt motronic, then a 325i and at the final stage a 2.7 lt 24 valve engine was donated from a 92 model 5 series. Of course before it goes under the bonnet the engine was heavily modified with racing cams, pistons, polish cylinder heads and intake manifolds. A Direct Port Wet Nitrous Kit gave another 120bhp to the car. Low suspension, a lightened fly wheel and a short ratio limited slip differential in cooperation with an M gear box guaranteed that the car was spinning even with the 4th gear and it was always going sideways. My daughter's second word (after papa of course) was: ‘make a drift daddy’... All these during the early nineties were pretty impressive. On my ‘things to do list b4 I die’ is to build a new one from scratch again. P.s. I own a 2014 520 F10 and a SEAT Ibiza GTI 16v rally car but when I have a few beers I still miss my E30!!! Regards Chef Ermis Panayiotou
