I'm sure they'll stick around for a while yet They'll probably use the numbers of the stadlers to rid themselves of all the DC's first

@@shadow_wolfen That's what the new shunting locos will be for, there are 18 DC's left and KiwiRail is very keen to rid themselves of them when the motive power becomes available.

@@TheSonic10160 shunt locos have a much lower speed restriction then the DC locos that are still mainline locomotives. Here in the Waikato a mainline shunt could be up to 260km round trip. DLs are used where possible but the DC in the Te Rapa yard is used multiple times every day especially to go to Te Awamutu.

@@shadow_wolfen If a DL can do it, then a DL, or DF will do it when the DC is withdrawn. It'll be nice when we get some proper specs on the new shunt locos, whether they'll be new steeplecabs like the DSC, G, & J, or if they'll be like the DH, and whether they'll be DC traction or AC traction.
