In 1985 regional/nepotistic disagreements between Uganda Army Commander, General Tito Okello(Luo-Acholi) and President Milton Obote(Luo-Langi) over the promotion of Smith Acak Opon(Luo-Langi) to replace the late Gen Oyite Ojok(Luo-Langi) instead of General Bazillio Okello(Luo-Acholi) caused a coup against Milton Obote.Gen Tito Okello became president(1985-86) and Gen Bazillio Okello became army commander. Daniel Moi called peace talks in Nairobi between Yoweri Museveni and Gen Tito Okello.The agreement(witnessed by Ambassador Bethwell Kiplagat of Kenya) required Gen Tito Okello to be president and Yoweri Museveni to be vice president.THE TALKS COLLAPSED when Soldiers allied to Yoweri Museveni and led by Rwandans Paul Kagame and Fred Rwigema continued a push against Gen Tito Okello led Soldiers in Uganda.
