They sure are, but people assume based on his accent, not because of the country. They are similar accents (South Africa too, actually) & unless the person asking isn't from any of those countries, or have experience talking with people from them, it can be hard to tell for them. I used to struggle differentiating between American & Canadian accents. & I guess Australia is more known, so they assume that one

Sian Rohde not really lol most people worldwide I would say struggle to tell the difference between the Aussie and kiwi accents, myself included. It took a while to distinguish in the beginning, although it’s natural for you since you live there. But I had a couple Australian exchange friends at uni (in USA) and they couldn’t tell the difference between the american & Canadian accents, or even between different American accents. Doesn’t make the Aussie students ignorant...not everyone can learn about everything lol
