Just the fact that Emilia Pérez managed to beat out Anora in nearly every category they were both nominated in says all that needs to be said at how laughably bad the Globes have become. @@anthonymartensen3164buckle up, buddy: -The director didnt bother to research a thing about Mexico. He said he knew what he needed to know, which turned out to be all stereotypes -They thought they were not enough good Mexican performers, whereas Mexican film industry is one of the largest in the World, so given that, they just casted a crappy B-list (excepting Saldaña) -Karla Gascón has been a mess of a public persona for quite long now. Her attitude in general towards the movie and the nomination was as despicable as the director's. -Narco and dissapearances' resolution stories are a big deal in Mexico's cinema. Films like Ruido, Vuelven and Noche de fuego are amazing portraits of what it is to deal with the fear, the mourning and the desperation of the situation. I dont think amnesty for narcos is socially a bad thing, but this thing banalizes the victims so damn much. This nasty murd3r3r becomes a good woman just by the effect of fairy dust, apparently. -The ignorance of the screenplay goes down so bad that all of the "initiatives" the movie presents are either poorly portrayed, vaguely shaped-out, inapplicable in contemporary MX, or downright idiotic.

Emelia Perez sweeping is just another testament to how tone deaf awards ceremonies are. Whenever they try to prop up a film (especially to make themselves look better) because of its representation, it's always films criticized by the people it's meant to represent. It is a film made by a cis man about a trans woman, and that cis people will eat up because it makes them feel good about how good of allies they're being, all while tamping down the voices of actual trans people having meaningful criticisms of it. This all on top of how much actual Mexican people have been tearing into it for its extremely poor representation of their country and people. Just incredible how awards season so consistently decides to go with films about hot topics and marginalized people to look progressive when those films do not actually do a good job representing those people or talking about those issues. Meanwhile a film actually made by a trans person about the trans experience, I Saw the TV Glow, gets completely shut out. Awesome.

Yeah, I'm mexican and the reasons why Emilia Pérez was so poorly received here include 1. The Spanish is terrible, not just the accents, but the words themselves are words no one uses ever and it feels like they were just throwing random words without understanding what they meant or how to use them. The english subtitles do a LOT of polishing very poor dialogue. Then, the whole narco trying to help people is insulting to many because it's a real problem, and things like finding dead bodies don't go the way the movie portrays it. Many people say that shouldn't matter because it's just a movie, but it's foreign people coming in and it feels irresponsible for them to portray this subject as if it was a Breaking Bad parody. Personally, I think the movie is simply bad. I've seen My fair share of weird foreign movies that are deep and 'people just don't get' and Emilia Pérez is easily the worst. The dialogue is dumb, the songs are dumb because the lyrics are dumb and had they used the words in the english subtitles it would have been much better. The story is cluncky and the whole 'let's help missing people' mission is extremely shallow, even if accuracy doesn't matter. Imagine Borat acting out the cave scene in Dune saying "Ah, chesss, I am de Lisan Al ga eeb!" And people clap...that's what it feels like when you can actually understand what they're saying in Spanish. Sorry for the Emilia Pérez hate...but come on, Dune deserves more love.

Because dune is a trilogy, they are waiting to see if they can stick the landing and then award it (which is kind of stupid, as dune and messiah are two different books and stories). It’s also the fact it came out so early so films that came out later in the year get recency bias, which is very common during awards season. Hello Kursten! I love your content and I'm a Mexican film lover. I live in Ciudad de México where the main story of Emilia Pérez takes place. This could help bring some context on how this film has been received in our country. A lot of film enthusiasts and critics with good intentions think that the movie represents both México and France (It is just France) or at least as filmmaker Xavier Dolan wrote in an IG post: "Created a lot of opportunities for Mexican artists" when in reality the cast of the film is compressed of mostly U.S actors, or elsewhere like Gascon who is from Spain. Most of them can't speak Spanish, and it shows. And the ones who can speak Spanish didn't research the accents. Ciudad de México has its own particular set of accents, if people from the city visit other states we are pretty easy to spot, this is a crucial element that the film omits, not only the accents, but the dialogue is completely horrendous, no one here, and I do mean no one, talks like that. Actually, Mexico is the last country where this movie is premiering. After a horrible screening at the FICM (Mexico's most prestigious film festival), they completely ignored Mexican audiences and criticisms, realizing that the entire theatre was laughing at the performances. Many scenes from the movie have become memes and actually managed to go viral despite the film not being released here. The director admitted to not doing any research about the country his movie takes place in, this shows in scenes like Rita cracking a case on a Mercado, and drinking wine while doing so. First of all, it's illegal to drink on the streets in Mexico City, mercados are ambulant shops in the middle of the streets, and no lawyer works on them, in fact, no one outside of the vendors does, these are really popular and noisy places, also no Mercado I have ever been to in my 28 years since I was born here has ever sold wine. However, these are just nitpicks, bad directing, horrible, disgustingly bad research (or lack of it). Emilia Pérez's greatest sin comes from the fact that the hero of the story is dealing with a very delicate subject matter, I can't possibly describe on a KZbin comment, it will get me banned. This is completely disrespectful to the thousands and thousands of families who have lost their loved ones. I've seen plenty talk about how no foreigner should talk about this subject matter... But Dennis Villanueva did it, despite receiving some hate for doing Sicario, no one called it unprofessional (personally I think is amazing) because the team did the research. Teodora Mihai who is from Romania did it again with: "La Civil" a fantastic movie about a mother looking to find her missing daughter and risking her life in the process, it was filmed in México with a Mexican team of consultants, the result depicts Mexico's harsh reality, so truly the audiences were shocked to find out she wasn't a Mexican herself. How can something so flawed be called masterful? What details are they awarding? Because there are also plenty of goofs inside the very filmmaking itself. I hope this helps, or at least wasn't a chore to read, as it was a chore to sit through that movie :)

I was a little surprised Edward Norton did not win but I was also so happy for Kieran Culkin!

The AI announcer and the fact no one brought up Israel at all while in past shows they were very open against wars really were the big downsides of the show.

Idk why I haven’t seen more people talking about the sad irony that is Sebastian Stan winning and Adam Pearson not even being invited to the Golden Globes.

honestly out of all the things i was left with thinking about after the substance, the number 1 thing was demi’s performance. so im very happy that she won. I don’t know what anyone saw in Mikey in Anora. i feel like anyone could’ve played that role. she didn’t wow me at all i just thought it was a normal performance

9:53 Fans of “The Wild Robot” will be angry or snub disclaimers that they didn't want “Flow” to this animated award. If the Oscars will pick this one since winning “The Boy and the Herron” and disclaimed against “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is not winning, it will be commenting insane this year so it's a tough challenge. It is “SUDDEN PICK DEATH” between Flow and The Wild Robot at the Oscars. Don't blame that kitty against the kind mother robot. Also Moana 2, please. Not a good follow-up and it cheats on not making it into a Disney+ series.

I mean, as someone who adored Wild Robot, I fully agree Flow taking it was a better choice. I also see (and hope) that going over better than the Spider-Verse and Boy and the Heron, if only because Wild Robot doesn’t have die hard comic fans backing it

I know you don’t watch much TV, but I can’t recommend Shōgun enough. Each episode is like a mini-movie. The acting, the writing, the production value, all some of the best I’ve ever seen on TV.
