Butler was great but was personally more enamoured with Ferguson and Chalamet for Dune 2. Sarah Snook’s voice performance for Memoir of a Snail is terrific, Jesse Eisenberg is arguably as good as Kieran in A Real Pain, David Dastmalchian in Late Night with the Devil, Aaron Pierre in Rebel Ridge is charisma personified, Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy in Furiosa play such good opposites, Katy O’Brien in Love Lies Bleeding was awesome, Jim Cummings was a lot of fun in The Last Stop in Yuma County, all three leads in His Three Daughters were also terrific. Also shoutout Benjamin Clémentine (Blitz) and Kurt Egyiawen (A Real Pain) - two very very underrated actors turning in 2 performances I really adored.

Me personally I feel like Cynthia erivo as Elphaba in wicked was incredible, and not many people talk about it. Her ability to communicate with her eyes and body language without even saying anything brought a level of realness to wicked. While Glinda is extroverted, very social and hyper, Elphaba is reserved, tries to act like she’s tough but holds years of trauma and anger built up over her entire life, which you see starts to bubble to the surface throughout her time at shiz. The ozdust ballroom scene is a great example. She walks in, clearly embarrassed but tries to keep herself from breaking down, which lead her to dance to calm herself down. That whole dance shows her trying to fit in and gain control so people stop making fun of her, but as she tries it just gets worse. As Glinda joins in and dances with her, you see Elphaba struggling to keep this cool, collected persona she’s put on for Glinda, the entirety of shiz, and for all of oz, until she can’t do it anymore. Once her first tear fell, she showed how vulnerable she was for the first time to Glinda and reminded the audience that she is still human who is impacted by harmful comments. That scene along with defying gravity immediately made me love the character of Elphaba even more than before, and solidified Cynthia as the best actor in that entire film . So glad she was nominated for golden globe🙏
