@@ValentinaOrtega28 it’s tough because on top of the work that school gives you, there is the added work of applying to colleges. Many selective colleges require several essays that are unique to that school. If you apply to as many schools as she did, you would have to write like 15 essays in your free time.

***For all you Senior levels going through the emotional roller-coaster that is 'college admissions*** I got rejected from my dream school back in 2012 when I was a Senior in High School. I accepted an offer from a different school that wasn't exactly my 'dream.' I felt distraught for a long time. But life has an uncanny way of placing you in moments you don't expect to be wonderful - but they're moments that end up changing your life. Here's what happened at the 'non-dream' school I ended up attending: I met the most life-long friends, I experienced things I never could have at my 'dream school', and I got into a very restricted access major for the field I wanted to study. The cherry on top was when I met a really nice boy during my first week of college. That boy and I got married 6 months ago. What does my life look like now, after NOT getting into my dream school? I live in one of the most beautiful cities in America, I'm married to the love of my life, I have the best dog on the block, and I work in Marketing with Nike. The moral of the story is that you are more than a piece of paper or collection of data. Your worth and potential cannot be summed up in a 500 word admission essay. You are more than the college you go to and more than the field you'll major in. College is what you make of it. And please believe me when I say that NO ONE cares where you went to college. Employers don't care how 'impressive' of a school it was. It's literally irrelevant to them. They care about you work ethic, your motivation, your skills, and your personality. So if you don't get into your dream school, that's okay. Because life has a funny way of putting you exactly where you needed to be.

Honestly, I respect you a lot for talking about how money is an important factor in your decision. I feel that in a lot of these videos people don't address that issue! I know money is one of the biggest factors in my decision, so again it's nice to see someone addressing it.
@juliareder16974 жыл бұрын
Thea Eiland I felt the same way. While with Canadian universities it is very different I ended up staying close to home as it was more affordable but I still got the the dorm and residence life experiences. If I’d gone far away the other school I got accepted to was more expensive and while higher on my list it’s ranker lower in Canada and globally as a university. I couldn’t be happier here at ubc! But the USA university stress seems so awful to me best of luck to all the 2020 grads you deserve it in these hard times.
@williama.99674 жыл бұрын
Money is the most important factor. After the top few schools it really doesn't matter which school you attend. It is better to graduate with $0 or just a small student loan from a school lets say ranked 100 in the country than to graduate with a $200k loan from a school ranked 50.

Tbh it’s pretty rare to see many students this thoughtful of their family’s financial situation. It really shines a light on how social and economic outcomes are so inequitable in America. Most students who get to go to college are lucky enough to not have to worry about this stuff. Congratulations to you for getting accepted to so many colleges and being so raw and humble in your achievements. I wish you and your family the best!
@dr.winstonsmith3 жыл бұрын
Untrue that most students who get into college don’t need to worry about paying for it. Some students in these types of videos are just irresponsibly and myopically oblivious to the costs (but their parents footing the bill or co-signing the loans are not). Or some students are cognizant of the costs but don’t want their videos to be a downer by bringing up the money issue. Just because the students don’t discuss the money issue doesn’t mean it’s not a big issue.

I feel like the discuss for which colleges to study at is more for bragging rights than anything. Obviously some colleges will have more funding/better staff/more equipment than others which draws some students but the "name-brand" colleges is more for bragging rights than anything. As far as majors go, so many kids just don't have a plan for themselves later in life so they don't know what they want to major in. I feel like, though college is expensive in the states, sometimes it may be worth it since the states have some of the best colleges worldwide. Of course, maybe they should apply better budgeting to lower our tuitions xD.

“their tuition is only twentysomethingthousand which is very little” I froze from shock when you said that. Its soo much money. Especially since university in germany is free and i couldn’t imagine spending this much money on tuition alone. Add the cost of living. Its insane😳😅💕

I have a learning disability, a rare genetic condition causing hearing loss and learning disorders and I completed 2 years of nursing at a community college and got accepted into Western Carolina University in nc, Farmingdale state University in New York and Hofstra and Plattsburg. I lived in nc but am from long island. I have a rare genetic condition and was able to get into good schools. I hope everyone finds their lifes path.

Your view on the Ivey schools is so sweet! I think that’s a really good way to look at it - giving the position to someone who really deserved and most likely wanted it :)
