I wish. I started at the current company I work for (2 years) as an associate making $9 an hour. This was for about 9 months before I got I promotion two positions up as a shift manager and started making $13. Few months ago told my district manager that the current pay just could not cover the cost of living and that I would either be paid more here, or I'd have to find a new job. She told me she would see what she could do. She could do a .39 cent raise. That was it. I only stay because I love my coworkers and my store (and the employee discount helps me care for my animals) but the job is so godawfully horrendous that we've all been talking about leaving and people from multiple other stores in our district have already done that.

My job has its paid tied to the wages of federal employees, so even though it's menial, it pays quite well. They always act like they're being generous, but it's completely out of their control. They, too, use the fact that we're paid extra to say we should do better work for them. Like, no, this is still less than what minimum wage would be if it kept up with the cost of living.

Every retail job is like this. You will do menial labor, be subject to constant corporate visits, do all your training in the back rooms of the business. @@seaurchinted If this was in the US, I would've reported that as basically time theft. If they aren't paying you to do work right then (such as a break), you're hourly, and they're pushing off-the-clock work things: instant penalization. Some states get so strict about this that even asking a work-related question on break is enough. Most just won't allow work on state mandatory breaks or any time the company designates "off-the-clock." Next time, I'd be like, "as long as you pay me overtime/on-call wages, sure."😂

So Johnny it's quite simple in America the wage required to live in certain areas changes based off of the state within the country. Reminds me of when I used to work at a chain bookstore, we were forced to try and sell people magazine subscriptions but like who buys those anymore? Everything is digital nowadays, no one really wants magazines on their doorsteps 😭
@pinkkrystalz7610
@pinkkrystalz7610 4 ай бұрын
It's not really about "not buying magazines anymore", it's the *nobody* *wants* *to* *pay* *a* *subscription* *for* *any* *magazine* when they can just pick one they're interested in. Personally, I like to cut out pictures from magazines and catalogs for scrapbooking, collage, and reference photos. I especially like to use them for fashion purposes such as moodboards and fashion illustration.

I mean, at this point, the economy of every western nation is structured to support the boomers. Most of us would be willing to be brutally exploited if there was a light at the end of the tunnel like there was for our parents and grandparents. Hell, the first job I had where there was a *chance* of a career at the end of it (and not much of one) I was willing to work 30 consecutive hours in the office and take abusive emails from the owner calling us all incompetent and worse.

I work for walgreens, a small one in a small town so it's usually nice. The worst part.. once a week we have to destroy books. We tear them in half and throw them in the trash compactor. We all hate it. I've no clue why we can't donate them, doesn't matter the price or author. They all get destroyed.
