This was so good! I am a newbie and I walk into a fabric store and get so overwhelmed at all the fabrics and names. Would love other videos on other types of fabrics, their name, and what to sew with them. Thank you!!

This is great!! I have some knit fabrics I have purchased over the last 6 months or so, and now I'm not sure what I have . I am going to re-watch this and make notes. I was looking at the weight of the fabrics online. I understand your comment about 8-10oz denim and Levi jeans. What is a good weight to use for, say, a dress in a dbp? Thanks so so much!

Hi Kim. I have recently come across your channel and subscribed. How spooky that this series of videos came up. I have just this week received some knitted fabric I ordered and have never sewn with it before. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the series.

Really enjoyed this topic. Looking forward to your other fabric videos. What type knit/weight fabric would you recommend for pajamas, whether it be night shirt or 2piece top/bottoms? Thanks for mentioning that book with fabric swatches.

What type of knit would you use for a mans tee shirt? I’m looking for something not to heavy that’s comfortable and don’t wrinkle

I’d probably look for a cotton spandex blend. Very breathable, but they keep their shape.

Hi Kim, I’ve just received a kit from one of the London hospitals - random test & agree with everything you said. I love your channel, so informative, especially as I’ve not sewn with knits previously and the things you do are more related to my age - I’m older than you 69 but they work. Lots of the other KZbin videos are excellent but aimed at a much younger audience. Many thanks.

We hope that your sister in law recovers quickly. Regarding sweater knits, would there be too much shrinkage if you put it in the dryer?
@cherylp.33474 жыл бұрын
I’m Dorothys daughter too, does that make you my sister? Lol, just kidding. Good advice, I’m new at knit sewing since I got my first serger last year. So this video was very helpful! I go in the store and feel the knits, I’m learning. Unfortunately, my daughter picked a fabric for a dress she wants me to sew for her. It called for ponte type fabric. I think we picked a cotton jersey ( or spandex?) I’m very worried as it has a lot of stretch. I didn’t even know what ponte is! I ordered a ‘ ponte’ pant online and I was thinking what’s a ponte pant!! ?? I got the pants, so now I know. New subscriber. ( btw, like your Proverbs sign)

Should swimwear fabric be prewashed? Thanks!
@dorothysdaughtersews4 жыл бұрын
I usually do. Not sure if there is some official word on that somewhere, but it will eventually go in them water. I prewash everything. One tip about swim I should have mentioned- I will often pin a piece of swim fabric inside my suite when swimming. That way, if it’s not going to hold up to chlorine, I’ll know
@lindabrown73744 жыл бұрын
I pre-wash all my fabrics just due to cleanliness, if nothing else. In the shops, people are handling it and lots of times those bolts are put on the floor.
@CovidIsVascular4 жыл бұрын
I pre-wash everything, only because some fabrics are treated with chemicals during manufacture, and you could end up with a skin sensitivity if you don't wash it. Plus you need to see how it behaves in the laundry and you want shrinkage to occur BEFORE you cut your fabric, if it's a fabric that shrinks. I serge the edges of fabric cuts before laundering to prevent fraying, but knits don't really fray the same way wovens do. I pre-wash and dry all fabrics the way I plan to after the garment is sewn, just so I don't have any surprises! Good luck!

Thank you! I knew a lot of this, but not all... I had been wondering what ITY was... That's new since I worked in fabric shops (many years ago). I can't wear any synthetics (and they are horrible for the environment, in both the production and as a used discarded item in landfills), so now I know more of the names of things to avoid. I just found your channel and I'm really enjoying all the information that you share! Blessings!!!
