For as much adjusting as you needed for the linen version, it turned out so well and looks terrific on you! Actually, both dresses look lovely!!

Great tips thank you. This pattern came into my email and part of the reason I bought it was because it looked so pretty on you.

Thanks for the fabric links. 😄 don’t tell my husband. I have similar dress to this one so I probably won’t buy the pattern, but love Love Notions and your videos. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you for the great tips, I am one of those people that are between sizes and I was questioning whether I should size up or down.

Fabric stores often have shirred fabric, that may well be an option for those who want the shirring without the effort. By the way, I enjoy your videos!

Thanks for this review. I have the pattern but decided to watch a couple reviews in case there are any issues. I did shirring in the past so this dress should go well. I have to ask a question that is just bursting out of me, but please do not take offense. Why are you looking up at the ceiling for the entire video? I notice that some other KZbinrs look off to the side for the videos and I just don’t understand the thinking behind not looking at the camera and us here on the other side. I mean no offense because I enjoy your videos and would watch them even if you were standing on your head!

Thank you for the video. When you are shirring, do you use regular thread in the top of your machine?
@dorothysdaughtersews

Yes. Do make sure that it is polyester (most of it is), and not all cotton. Polyester has a little more give.

Thanks for the review. What brand and size of elastic thread do you use? I’d love to see how thick it is. I have a spool of elastic thread from when I was making bead necklaces. It is thicker than the 50 wt cotton I usually use. Is that what I want for the bobbin when shirring? I also read that Mettler is now making an elastic thread which is about 40 wt. Would that be best? Thanks Kim.

It’s not the same as for jewelry making. I like the Dritz brand.

You have to hand wind the bobbin? What kind of thread?

Elastic thread - I find Dritz brand best.

That shirring is not as easy as some make it out to be! I tried a few times over the years with fails. I studied many KZbin videos and followed along and it just didn’t work. I had no gathering and big loops, in a snake pattern on the back. Tension issues for sure. A few weeks ago i tried again and I finally got it t work. I had to mess with turning the screw on my bobbin holder. I wrote down my settings both before and for the shirring. Next time I went and tried it did not work again. 😩 it makes a difference on the elastic thread you use. The first type must have been a little thicker I think, the second was a guetterman (?) thread and needed different settings. Then it wouldn’t work again and I discovered i needed to wind it , by hand, with just the right amount of tension or it wouldn’t work. It takes a bit of practice on scraps to get it right. I made the recent love notion blouse ( ballad? ) and was surprised to find it took a whole 2small spools of elastic thread. I’m not in America so it was a bit expensive, $ 8 just for the elastic thread I needed. Still, I’m keen to try this dress in the summer as I like the look of shirring.

Sounds a bit like the thread wasn’t catching in the hook of the bobbin. That’s exactly what happens. Thread does make a difference I had some old elastic thread that I had when I did this years ago, but it did not work well either. I had pretty good success with Dritz brand thread. You can do elastic channels with this pattern that has a similar look to shirring. There are instructions for that in the pattern.

Please get your glasses fixed, you push them up so much that it distracts from what your saying. Dresses are great they look very pretty. Is it itchy I find that the elastic itches when I use this method.

Julie - it wasn’t my glasses. It was for some reason very hot in my room and I had sweat in my nose making my glasses slide down. I started and stopped a ton of times to wipe my nose off. I’m so sorry you felt distracted by it.

Julie, if you have a latex allergy, or the start of one, elastic can cause itching. Sew Sassy sells latex free elastics.
