I so deeply regret that my now-dead unconverted Episcopalian friend never heard such preaching in our useless and unregenerate OPC in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and I was too new a Christian myself to share John MacArthur with him, although I did share one sermon with him, but he did not want to hear preaching that did not stroke his ego. This is a classic and precious John MacArthur sermon, and I wish I could have shared it with my friend Rich. There was no preaching like this at the OPC in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and it's only by the grace of God and Moody radio that I ever learned of John MacArthur: I certainly never learned of him in the spiritually dead but "orthodox" OPC. The OPC coddled my friend to hell

Spot on, uncomfortable truth. You know it's affective against the flesh when "it" squirms.

To live in continual Sin is to Not care for the Things of God. We all have imaginations but to pursue them is to be in Contempt from God.

I'm not surprised to see in the comments people sidestepping the implications of what MacArthur teaches by praising the teaching. Maybe their consciences are clear. But based on the teaching, a clear conscience is practically impossible to attain.

Haha its possible my friend. Has the man of God said, we ought to live in spirit and treasure the things of God. Our conscience can be fixed and be made clear. You remember what God told Sarah in the book of Genesis 18_ is anything too hard for the Lord... My friend our time will come let's be patient and have faith to attain a clear conscience. Much love

I have to disagree with one thing in this sermon, which is that guilt and shame are interchangeable. Guilt is the acknowledgement that “I’ve done something bad.” Shame, on the other hand, is the feeling that “I am bad.” Guilt can be a part of how God convicts us, and with that conviction He gives us hope that leads to repentance. Shame, however, often does not lead to repentance, because it contains no message of hope. It is the result of false accusations and condemnations from the enemy. He takes our sin, tells us to be ashamed of it, and in doing so causes us to doubt our identity as beloved children of God. THAT is not how the Holy Spirit speaks. Shame is not from God.
