Because you mentioned it: Santa Claus is based on a saint that lived hundreds of years ago in what is now Turkey ! St. Nikolaus (or Nicholas/ Niklas) was a bishop in a region where in his time there were many people that lived in poverty. So because as a bishop he had the means he gave food to the poor - the legend goes that at night he personally went to every home in the poor part of his city and left fruits and nuts and money for them on the window sills and in the shoes standing outside their doors - and he was made a saint for helping the poor like this. This is why on December 5th children in countries where that tradition still exists will put their boots in front of their doors and come morning - December 6th, Saint Nikolaus‘ Day - they’ll find their boots filled with fruits and nuts and sometimes small gifts . (Traditionally people put clementines, figs and various nuts (mostly peanuts for some reason) in the boots, as well as chocolate. But some people also put gifts or money in there) . The story of Santa Claus like he exists today in the US and Britain ,though, was stitched together from Saint Nikolaus‘ story and legends of other ‚Christmas People‘ (like the Christmas witch Bofana, the Christ child, Knecht Ruprecht or Saint Lucia) to serve as a Christmas mascot for a marketing strategy by Coca Cola - the invention of the Santa Claus mascot worked wonders for their sales which is why Coca Cola still is especially fond of using the whole Santa aesthetic during Christmas even now. Not quite as magical, unfortunately, but still interesting imo.

St.Nicholas is also very different from the one everyone knows thanks to the Coca-Cola marketing. He was very slim and had green clothes. He was quite old and not really joyuous either. You could see different and very variating depictions of St. Nicholas before Coca-Cola started to make one universal design, which is the warm, round shaped, full beard, smiling santa we all know! (They made him smile like that so he would look fa rmore friendly to sell more drinks). thought it would be interesting to add this to the info you gave ^^
@tfly9993 жыл бұрын
He's also the patron saint of prostitutes! No, really. The story goes that a poor man couldn't afford dowry for his three daughters, so they wouldn't be able to marry and the typical fate for such disposed women was prostitution. St. Nicholas left three bags of gold on the window-still to pay for their dowry, though later that changed to him 'tossing it down the chimney', which led to yet another popular aspect of the Santa Klaus legend.

The original 'santa' is a mix of Saint Nicholas (a Greek bishop in Asia during the Roman era). Apparently he annonymously gave gifts to the poor and vulnerable for years (before being outed, to his annoyance). He also is tied into a medieval pagan/christianised figure associated with yule and merry making during the winter celebrations. He was turned into father christmas around about the victorian period and then became red and white due to coca cola.

Klaus is one of my most recent favorite animated Christmas Movie ever. What I love so much about this film is that you can feel all of the love and hard work SPA Studios along with Sergio Pablos and his team put into this movie with every single amazing beautiful details they did, Also with the research they put into the movie with its northern Nordic European backstory within it. Which makes sense since the mythos /legend of Santa did first start within Scandinavian culture, But really this movie is such a great animated treat like I'm glad it won at the 2020 Annie Awards because it truly deserve it. :D

I believe their words were that wasn’t the original intention, but they were flattered that fans saw it that way. Also that the fans made clear that it's meant to be taken as bi positivity.

Idk why exactly it just has that certain nice but slightly sad Christmas vibe to it?
