Today I am Finally watching The Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time (for the most part lol)
I've only seen like the first 15 mins of this film and I've pretty much forgotten what even went down. So this is basically my First time watching The Nightmare Before Christmas...

Jack Skellington is voiced by BOTH Danny Elfman, AND Chris Sarandon. Elfman was hired to do the music for the movie (and has frequently collabed with Tim Burton, like in the 80's Batman movie) and Elfman recorded the singing for Jack before the dialogue. Burton tried to do the VA dialogue for Jack, but didn't have the acting chops for a lead role, so Sarandon was hired because his speaking voice matched well with Jack's singing voice done by Elfman.

Tim Burton wrote the poem and doodles that inspired the story, and it was a bunch of his friends who wrote the scripts, songs, and rest of character designs. I believe that's the gist of his contribution.

This film is an amazing portrayal of character development of someone who was learning to be better after realizing he had done and encouraged cultural appropriation. By the end of the film, he gained more appreciation to his own culture, and how to properly celebrate other people's culture and custom.

I know someone else already said this but actually Jack is voiced by Chris Sarandon (who is probably most well known for his role as Humperdinck in The Princess Bride) with his singing by Danny Elfman. Chris was hired because Danny’s attempts at the speaking parts were “wooden”; Danny was so upset because of how much he related to Jack/poured himself into the songs, that he refused to work with Burton for a while. Also, Chris Sarandon can actually sing and he does Jack’s voice for literally all things Jack appears in even now. Theme parks/voice overs, video games (Kingdom Hearts series, Oogie’s Revenge etc), mobile ringtones, literally you name it and that’s Chris Sarandon. He can’t even do the Jack voice at comic cons because Disney have copyrighted his voice 😭 but he’s awesome and I even got a lovely pep talk from him on cameo, and he’s so enthusiastic about Jack as a character and about the film.
