Unlikely to be free - but I'd be absolutely shocked if they weren't working on some kind of version of the software for a commercial release. The effectiveness and desirability of programs like this are increased as an animation team's size decreases, and with so many indie animators on the internet now, it only makes sense to eventually allow people to purchase it. I'd imagine they're adding many quality of life/user friendliness to the software, as it was highly specialized and experimental for Klaus - it was invented just for *this movie* after all.
@ZouUuu4 жыл бұрын
oh come on, the only difference between this and all other softwares is the way gradient are controlled. you can replicate that in most softwares.
@mattrocde4 жыл бұрын
@@ZouUuu Replicate, yes - make a movie out of it with a reasonable budget while learning the software? Probably not. This is specifically designed to help automate shadows of tweens for 2D animation, of which the inbe*tweens* are particularly limiting for a small team. Just to be clear, the software of Klaus uses AI to create the shadows of inbeteween frames, which is about 60-70% of the work in animation. That is *very* impressive.

Love this complex lighting/Shading system. I think the only drawback is that it takes away (for me at least) the hard work of the Clean Up Team as many of the lines (such as the outlines and lines within the characters) gets lost within all the tonal, masks and shading. I wish they had kept those crisp outlines so that we could their work too. Whats the point in cleaning up a rough animation when we can't even see it in the results at the end.
@mahbubhsohag6 ай бұрын
yes kind of felt it too. It was all so smooth and soft if there was Nice Balance it would look More Unique and Beautiful. It looked too much like 3D. if they had kept some Crips Outlines with combo of somewhere Flat somewhere gradient color and semi realistic shadow/light not fully 3d style shadow/light with Some 2D attributes it would look Amazing. it is good at it is but without knowing it is hard to tell that it is 2D not 3D that's means it a achievement technicality wise but not so for a New Unique look. It does not look like a Upgrade of 2D or new Look of 2D rather it's feel like Mimicry of 3D or fake 3D. If they used Less of the this it would be more unique look of 2D. Less is more sometime. I hope they do it next time and does not make it look fully 3D.

Hello, I'm the guy talking in this video and since I've seen this question a couple of times on social media let me answer here: As in live action, lighting is just a tool to support the story. We haven't created this system to say "hey look what we can do" but instead we wanted to use lighting as a vector of emotion and since Sergio wanted to do this movie in 2D it was the only way we found. Plus when you want to do something you shouldn't go for the easy way but instead do what must be done in order to have the result you're looking for. And fun fact the lighting department was one of the fastest in the production :) Hope it answered your question and have a nice day ! Florian.

@@jeremy__hopkins From time to time I would ask them to draw specific lines so it helps the tracking system for the lighting but other than that no, they just need to animate the cloth and then during the clean up step we decide what lines we keep and what lines we don't need.

So I think What he wanted to do is only improve Light & Shadow System But End of the What he made is A software which can Blur and soft Edges Easily. I love what you guys are doing with 2D. I apart of me really finds it weird though. While you got a great looking product in the end, was the goal on an animation stand point to mimic 3D? I find the results really appealing but i have to wonder why it wasn't done in a 3D program because the end result feels and looks so volumetric. Is this process faster than normal 3D animation? Also the 2D version without the lighting and shading felt a lot more traditional too. It reminded me of older disney films. I'm not saying what you did was bad or wrong but i want to understand the idea behind it. I enjoyed them both nevertheless. Keep up the good work.
