“The Originals” has a more mature theme than The Vampire Diaries. I think that’s why people prefer it. I can see that you already like Klaus’s character. So I would suggest watching the Vampire Diaries as well to get a full grasp of his character.

@@matlohn9381 the thing is, he's only evil because he wants to be, when he wants to be. He's actually very reminiscent of Vladimir Dracula: he puts on a show of terror to keep his enemies at bay, while using that same show to keep the people he cares about safe. Vlad the Impaler was loved by his people because he made sure the poor were fed and never went thirsty, as well as protecting them from war, all because the people that would do them harm were too scared of him to do anything. They both really are more martyrs than evil, willing to be seen as evil to protect the people they love because they don't believe themselves to be capable of redemption. Of course, in both cases their deeds remain enough to make them evil, you don't get to brutally murder people for entertainment and not be evil, but their true character is that of a martyr, even while their actions tell a different story.

The Mikaelsons are some of the greatest and most interesting fictional characters ever created. Its hard to not be invested in their story. Hope by herself is such an intriguing concept, just as a concept much less as the character she is, her story just as engaging as Klaus'.

In The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, there is no good or bad character. Most of them are a gray area. The ‘evil’ characters are always a fan favorite because there’s just so much depth, character development and stories behind them.

Vampire Diaries is kinda high school show, The Originals is much more adult and thats why i like The Originals more but I would recommend you to give a chance for Vampire Diaries and if you dont like it you can just watch The Originals. Btw i watch you for the first time and as far as i see you are one of the most sincere reactors on youtube. The video i suggest is "The Originals: Shall We?" by Daddynegan, but if you react to tv series you will grow much better and quicker then videos. Good luck, great reaction!

Dazquii actually if u watch the originals first they explain it quite well- but the seasons of tvd with the Mikaelsons in it are absolutely amazing so why would u not watch them. We all know s2-4 of tvd are the best ones while s1 is a lil too twilight and highschool for some ppl and again we all know the show went to shit s5-6 and became legit unwatchable when Nina left. Absolutely everyone hates s7 and 8. Also the last season of originals is better rated than TVD even tho I don’t hate s8 it’s on the same level of entertaining enough compared to some of s5 originals even tho s5 originals was way better than that shit show of s8 - s7 tho is a big ooof we all know but even then most ppl hated s8. My point is tvd is shit without the Mikaelsons and it’s hot garbage without Nina - I still love tvd bc it holds a place in my heart but plot wise we all know the family that holds it up and makes it interesting.

More originals stuff I suggest is 'The Originals | Heroes' or 'The Originals 'oh bloody hell' [humour] both by GoldxNoir, I also highly suggest the following by Daddynegan: 'Kol Mikaelson: the wildest', 'Rebekah Mikaelson a choice' and 'Elijah Mikaelson a purpose', they are a lot like this but based on Klaus's siblings, Elijah being the oldest, Kol the middle child and Rebekah their youngest sister. Simplest backstory: They were all turned into vampires by their mother after the death of their littlest brother Henrik and they frequently stab each other in the back for different reasons- they are also all badass mother fuckers, Klaus is the deadliest as he is also half werewolf. The originals takes place in the vampire diaries universe and was introduced in the second season but you don't need to watch TVD to understand The Originals as it stands on its own. Your invested because the writing on The Originals is effing brutal and so damn deep. It's a show about vampires and werewolves, sure, bla bla. But really it's a show about overcoming abuse from your family, and the trauma that lingers from abuse, and the inability or ability to break the cycle of abuse. It's so freaking intensely good.
