Wonderful visiting Klerksdorp again since my last visit around 1988 and to see the city intact. I was delighted to see the beautiful station building of 1898 unscathed and a functioning station. Both the Klerksdorp Dam and Nature Reserve were impressive. Look forward to the next port-o-call. Thank you.

Hi guys very impressed with klerksdorp city .more memories fantastic. When you said mining area that big mind dump brought back so many memories. The station building was stunning loved the palm tree to me it feels exotic. 1987 and the first white town north of the orange River. Your surprise breakfast place was very modern and the food looked great. Plenty of churches and schools loved the town hall building. The garden ornaments were brilliant plus the dog kennels. The vets sign blows my mind only in South Africa kudu cow cat dog .so amusing to me 15 kilometres from town a game park loved the trailer with the people having a party safari. The zebras running in a heard amazing. The dam caravan park and camping was so tranquil ideal spot to relax. The oldest street had some beautiful properties especially the big colonial style one the concentration camp memorial to the blacks is interesting and also the Jewish and Muslim cemeteries next to each other. Loved the history. Your accommodation was topnotch really big and very reasonable prices the story of the name so personal to the lady that's the small things you don't get anywhere but dustbugs. Thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

When my parents moved up to the "Transvaal" from the Strand in 1956/7, he worked on the mines at Harties, then Stilfontein. I loved this video. The station building is looking amazing. I love how you are both so passionate about the Railways and trains.

Hi Curtis , Sonia, Dusty, and Sandy, A highlight for me was your excitement at discovering that wonderful stone station that was intact. It is so rare to find a station building intact and a functioning station to boot Loved the game reserve too. What a surprising find with all the wildlife. 1897 ..... station well looked after. You see maintenance pays. Its stunning the station building. I wonder what the little one is used for. Coobah looks lovely. Very good price as well. That security guard has a brilliant idea. Nice to see the dam is full. It really is lovely there by the dam 🎉❤🎉 The game drive was impressive and value for money. My conclusion is Klerksdorp is ancient going to the 1837's. Was facinated by this old dorpie

Sonia is head-over-heels in love with that little stone building at the station. 😍 If I could pick it up and bring it home, she would've made me! I have absolutely no idea what it could've been used for back in the day, unless it were for guards or officials manning the entrance. It was just fantastic to round that corner and see this magnificent station building which has survived the test of time. They clearly look after the place and it definitely shows. Kudo's to the folks responsible! 🏛️👌🏻

I have only heard the Afrikaans pronunciation. I grew up mostly English speaking but parents spoke Afrikaans and pronounced Afrikaans names the Afrikaans way. Like English should be said in the English way , like George and not Ge-orrgg. Love that station building 🏫 so beautiful still. And a choo-choo . 😮What a pity safety has become such an issue. Echinacea, vit c and zinc, is best for nipping a cold in the bud. If that doesn't help, then a goeie dop klippies in lemon and honey. Love the shapes of the trees at the dam. Some of them look like they are dancing. Lucky to see so many animals. Wildebeest with horns forward are gnus.
@DustBugsTravel2 ай бұрын
My Afrikaans father-in-law would agree with you wholeheartedly about the pronunciation of place (and other) names, but for many of us who grew up in families where only English was spoken the anglicised pronunciations were the order of the day and they stuck. No harm done though, 'Clarksdorp' and 'Klerksdorp' is and will always be the very same place. 😁 Sonia was over her sniffles in three days, but mine lasted a little longer. No matter what I try, it always gets me a little worse. 🤧🤒 Although I love honey, I've never been abler to do the lemon-and-honey thing though. 😣🍋🍯

@@DustBugsTravel you should have tried klippies! Works like a bomb for me, and doesn't have to be lemon and honey, just straight! 💋

You may be new to our channel and not know that we've always enjoyed exploring any city, town or place we visit on our own and love happening upon things, buildings and places which most folks would just drive by and not even consider interesting. We won't burden ourselves with 'homework' or any kind of extensive research before or during a trip, that would take all the fun out of finding things on our own. I love museums and have visited many in the 545 videos on our channel, but history is just one of a multitude of things we find fascinating, so it's all good if we don't get to see everything in a place. We prefer focusing on what we did get to see and I hope you at least enjoyed those! 🚙😁
