Green rock, If it smells like almonds its pyrite arsenic. Black sand: if it's tin oxide its worth about $25k a ton. Final edit: love how excited you guys were. Its the exact reason I do it, gold be damed its about finding it.

I don't typically find gold in the clay, I find it on the clay. I scrape off the top layer and leave the rest behind. A good way to process that clay is to take those chunks and grate them across the classifier just like you use a cheese grater. Saves the fingers a bit.

About a decade ago i was called to the office of the local metallurgist friend. He knew i had a hand full of Fire Opals i was sitting on waiting for a buyer. An opal buyer from Australia was going to be stopping into my friends shop to catch up on old times and he wanted my to meet his Aussie friend, as well as get a chance to get premium price on selling my rough gems to the Aussie. The Aussie(Jimmy) was as colorful in personality as the gems he purchased from me. After the sale,the 3 of us went down to the bar for a few drinks. Jimmy told me he as well loved prospecting for gold along with everything else that sparkled under the sun. We got talking about his recent prospecting trip in Arizona,showing us pictures of a very impressive cleanup along with pictures of the unusual(but do-able) method he used to get that humbling large amount of gold. I was taken back by his methods, as i never seen gold prospecting done like that before. Since that conversation with him, i been itching to get on down to AZ to put that method to a good test for myself. A lot of research needs to go into this sort of thing before i go,as well as saving up for it. Sorry i wasn't specific as to the method Jimmy used,but it is something i really don't want the world to know about. If you know what i mean.

A pair of dish washing gloves works a treat for saving the finger prints, good in cold weather too. Make sure they fit snugly,a pain to get on but if they”fit like a glove” you don’t know you’ve got them on. Looks like a good days gold to me. Gold is just a bonus after a day in the bush.

Do you keep any simple survival gear in your bags ever, just in case? Would make a GREAT video from a ex-military man to show us some simple lightweight gear we could pack.
@Pt0wN973b0iI5 жыл бұрын
For food ideas: You could pack a few MREs for "just in case" moments. They are pretty cheap online an lightweight to pack. Yes, some might not taste that great but when you are busy a quick meal is better than having no energy when you would like quick physical food. MREs are also a big trend on KZbin these days. Might bring back some good military memory for you!
@Klesh5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I do enjoy MRE's actually. I carry Ambronite now, it's all powder (just add water) and it's a single pouch, no extra trash, more lightweight and just easier and faster than MRE's. Although yes...MRE's are nostalgia in a bag for me!

Lol, you guys are prospecting on my favorite area at Cache Creek. Last time I was out I got my rubber boots stuck in that hole by the fallen tree. I learned not to waste my time with the clay as most of the gold was just above the clay layer. I highly recommend Cache Creek for prospecting and it is my second favorite area to prospect after the American River in California.

Nice work, that clay seems like a pain! I was in your neck of the woods on my second trip with my folks in Fairplay. We were doing some prospecting, fishing at Spinney, and winning money up in Cripple Creek last weekend for my bachelor party! Found some gold in the Middle Fork, but don't think I'll be going back too much gravel in that old dredge line to manage; maybe it was just the water line where we were but I was hoping for unprospected area there too. 1 big flake, lots of flour, and a couple of garnets made for a good day either way. I can't wait for the water to go back down I want to go crevice the flood gold in Clear Creek Canyon soon. Cheers from Longmont!

Do you have enough gold to make a gold bar yet? Refine it to 99.999% gold. Would be a FUN video too!
@Klesh2 жыл бұрын
I do have enough gold to make (probably a kilo?) bar if I wanted, but melting natural gold is literally a waste of money. Natural gold, especially the larger pieces command a very nice premium over spot value. For instance, let's say gold is $50 a gram. A two gram nugget will sell for more than $110, and the larger the nugget, the higher the premium.

Are you crying?! Theres no crying in prospecting! Ever try putting some heavy jagged stones on top of the clay? I like digging into the contact zones between our (PA) blue gray clay and the orange clay. I put a few heavy rough stones in the arbor fab on top of the clay. It sorta helps break it down and schmush it through the wires a little easier. It doesnt work well on tacky clay with no gravels in it, but the mineralized orange stuff breaks down fairly quick. Though spinning the arbor fab to bust up clay isnt much easier than doing it by hand lol.
@Klesh5 жыл бұрын
yeah it's pretty much just bust it up with your hands, add rocks and continue pushing the clay through. If motorized equipment were allowed, I'd say a pressure washer might be the best bet.
