They say the clarinet is a happy instrument. It makes me happy because my whole wind-cage is engaged and I feel as if I am playing what I am hearing. It’s a delightful instrument to relearn after setting down 60 years ago.

Klesmer Clarinet gave us freedom to play Swing & Jazz. (Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman,etc grew up with this). The style is not sloppy playing. There is a meaning in the phrasing. There is so much to learn. Thank you for sharing this.

That was amazing and beautiful. For decades I was barely aware of music like this, and when I would hear it I immediately thought of Supertramps album "Breakfast in America". Now I know it's called Klezmer and hearing that guy expressing himself I think I'm going to buy a clarinet and go for it. There is just something so soulful and mischievous about those sounds, like a sly old fox who still has some tricks up his sleeve. I love it.

Can someone tell me the mode klezmer is in? Such as the half and whole steps that make up its scale, including notes in the basic scale or mode that are skipped.

based on the little theory I know, Klezmer is based on different versions of Phyrgian. If you're doing research, The term is "Ahavah Raba" Scales or "Klezmer Scales". (btw world, not an expert, just love klezmer.)

Zilien Biret is correct. This is interesting playing and technically advanced, but Mr. Giuffredi is not playing klezmer. He may be playing the notes to well-known tunes, but he is not demonstrating any knowledge of phrasing, ornamentation, elaboration, or any other idiomatic element of traditional playing. This is at minimum cultural appropriation by someone who has not done any meaningful study of the idiom. If you want to know about klezmer, go listen to Dave Tarras, Naftule Brantwein, Joel Rubin, Zilien Biret, Michael Winograd, and many other traditional and contemporary players who know the tradition inside and out. It's actually quite shameful that this many would make the claim that he can "teach" klezmer when he so clearly knows nothing about it.

Ok this guy is a good player yes....but this has nothing to do with Klezmer, not a single ornements...nothing.....this is sad....this is good, but IT IS NOT klezmer :) So many traditions are dying because of that kind of appropriation.....
