Klim Carlsbad Jacket - No BS Review!

In this video, I review my Klim Carlsbad jacket and talk about why I think it's the best adventure jacket for both adventure and dual sport riding.
This is my first piece of Klim motorcycle gear, so I am by no means, a Klim fanboy. Just wanted to shed some light on what I think is a fantastic product.

I own both the KLIM Carlsbad Jacket and Pants. 6'1" 175 Lbs. Medium Grey Jacket, 32 waist black pants. Lots of adjustability in the pants and they were plenty long for my 36" inseam, easily going over pretty much any motorcycle boot. Riding in Texas heat, I use a cooling vest under the jacket and it feels 10-15 degrees cooler than outside temp -- with just the back vents open the water impregnated vest lasts a long time to keep me cooler. In winter, I wear a jacket liner from an older Olympia jacket that keeps me toasty. The Goretex rain and wind protection is very good. I have crash tested this gear also and it has held up well. It has been said a poor man pays twice buying crappy gear, wish I had gotten this KLIM jacket and pants sooner -- I would have saved money over the long run. Highly recommend.

Great review mate. I also run the Carlsbad jacket and pants. The jacket would be even better if the arms could be zipped off for slower speed riding when its hot. I was just to hot on my recent Simpson crossing so ended up riding in a MX jersey. Cheers for sharing

Hey good info. I have the Dakar Version with the ITB Pants and they are great. The one thing that would make them better is an adjustment cinch around the belly area. I bought the MSR Explorer jacket and pants which are pretty much a direct copy of the Carlsbad with the addition of, the cinch in the middle.

Man if I spend that much on a jacket I’d never wear it from fear of getting dirty. I don’t even wear my formula boots if there’s mud lol. Gortex is great at keeping water out but does not breath and while it has those vents as you said it’s no good at slow speeds. But I love how it’s not black, so that’s a plus. I don’t know why every bit of gear has to be black!

It's certainly a hard pill to swallow and yep, when the going gets tough, you're wishing there was no Goretex haha!

In the old days we used to call our black Levis thousand milers because being black, they didn't show much dirt and would go 1k miles between washes.

One more pro is that its a light colour, so when in traffic it doesn't absorb the heat from sunlight as much. This has been a major problem for me. Im now looking for a light coloured jacket!

Great review! The only thing with goretex is I think that the weatherproofing wears out over time as it’s a chemical treatment.

Thanks mate, apparently according to Klim, you can ‘reactivate’ the waterproofing by putting it in the dryer. We’ll see how that goes.

Good review but not for me. I'll always prefer separate layers. It's either protection or weather proofing. Jackets are always compromised when trying to do both. There are some really good super light water proof over jackets, they last about 20 or 30000ks before they start leaking, so $100 a year and carry on. I just carry one of them and use a jacket designed to protect me for whatever sort of riding I'm doing at the time. Water proof also means wind proof so I use them when the air gets cold as well as if it gets wet

If the Carlsbads a little roomy you should try the Latitude. Its a little more fitted. I read a good comparison recently that stated the Badlands & Carlsbad were the 80% off & 20% on road suits with the Kodiak & Latitude being 80% on & 20% off road hence a more 'fitted'. Badlands & Kodiak = more expensive & heavier/ bulky jackets (not tried the Kodiak in person but felt the Badlands was overkill!) Carlsbad & Latitude = cheaper but lighter & less bulky versions. (IMO the sweet spot as comfort is massively important) Safe riding

I just replaced a Rev'It jacket with the Carslbad jacket and don't regret my decision. It is a much better fit for my build (6'2" and need to lose weight). Ironically, the longer sleeve length works for me and my longer arms. As for ventilation, I live in central Texas and the summers are brutal, even with a mesh jacket. It gets to a point where you stop riding in the height of summer.

Hey! I live in Austin TX as well so I know what you mean about riding in Summer. Seriously, try using a cooling vest under your Carlsbad jacket. You'll be amazed how much cooler it makes you feel. I just carry my vest in a ziploc, and when it starts getting hot outside I'll poor a bottle of water in the bag, squish it around and wait 4-5 minutes for the microweave liner to absorb most of the water. I throw it on still drippy and with the vents partially closed it cools things down nicely for at least 1-2 hours before it needs another dunking. Good Luck!

Pricey but Alpinestars, Dainese, Rev it all have items waaay more expensive then Klim, so in the grand scheme of things, it’s actually not crazy expensive.
