It seems a little odd, to me, that this collection of stirring marches dedicated to the cavalry is almost exclusively illustrated with pictures that portray one of the most misguided and unsuccessful--although tremendously brave--cavalry charges in history: Lord Cardigan's Light Brigade at Balaclava during the Crimean War (1854).

When we compare with Von Bredow's successful charge against the French in 1871, for instance, or the Australians at Beersheba at the very end of the cavalry era...

But are infantry sorted your Lance's out no bother
@sirhumphreyappleby83994 жыл бұрын
@@danielbates101 No actually they didn't, that was our artillery, and infantry squares usually weren't attacked by solely cavalry, they usually attacked supported. But just to prove the idiot making the original comment wrong or ill-informed too, the sole unit to break up such an infantry squal formation was a formation of Dragoons at the battle of Salamanca. beyond 1800 but still. Prussian cavalry also put the French to shame.

Ah yes, the Hungarian hussars are coming in strong.
@marclandreville63673 жыл бұрын
Hussars, although Hungarian in origin, became a fad during the 18-19th century. Many European countries had them, including England, France and the German kingdoms. Many Dragoon regiments were renamed Hussars. It is a type of cavalry. They had the reputation of being the shock forces, although relatively undisciplined when not fighting, such as engaging in heavy drinking/partying. Nowadays, some remain as armoured and armoured reconnaissance regiments.
