Tasha's memory was not "done dirty" or besmirched. Her doomed mission on the Enterprise C led to a Klingon/Starfleet treaty and no war with the Klingons.... that saved billions. That is Tasha's contribution. Sela's actions are her own.

I’ve always loved the Hobson character. Shows Starfleet isn’t full of perfect humans and also shows he isn’t so blindly prejudiced that he can’t evolve. I don’t care what anyone says almost all of us have prejudices and biases against certain groups. The goal is to have them and overcome them, not act like we’re all above it all.

Regarding Captain Data's emotive moments... Don't forget how many times during the first four seasons when you had an episode with Data practicing his acting craft, usually with the goal "to become more human." In effect, Data has been training for several years to "put on the face of a captain" in this episode.

I don't think Guinan remembers any more from the alternate timeline than she told Picard, but I still think it's hilarious that her version omits her own involvement in Tasha's decision to go back with the Enterprise-C. "Yes,Picard, YOU sent her on that mission. It had nothing at all to do with the fact that I told her that her death in the original timeline was meaningless. This is ALL YOUR FAULT!" Worf's decision not to kill Toral takes on an extra dimension when you remember that Worf has a son of his own. I'd like to think that Worf was thinking of Alexander in that moment. Happy New Year, and welcome to Season 5! In my opinion, seasons 4 and 5 are the best of Next Generation. Season 4 is more consistently good, but Season 5 hits higher highs. Season 5, episode 2 is one of my top 3 TNG episodes, so I really hope you like it. But I already know what I'm going to say if you don't.

Yes, it is your fault, Jean-Luc. At least, a version of you whose experience over the last twenty some years was being at war with the Klingons, still you would have made the exact same decision.

SPOILER? Just like with Buffy, I’m sure every fan has a different order of fave seasons. I only watched TNG sporadically after the first 2 seasons, but there is something coming up I think in season 6 or even 7 that I did see back then that made me cheer. And DEFINITELY, THE BEST decision one of those Star Fleet Command types who have taken over the enterprise ever made, by a million parsecs! Any guesses? (Also with Spoiler warning or couched in super obscure terms like this one. I added the spoiler warning just in case.)

That's a good thought as well I hadn't thought that Worf might have had Alexander running through his head too. I just put it Worf much like Spock he truly embodies his people and the best qualities of the race, in this case he has true honor as the boy never did him any harm at that point it was his family.

Now that we're here, I can talk about the Sela reveal in Redemption pt 1. When I was watching that with my friends, and Sela came out, I saw that she had pointed Romulan ears, and knew it wasn't Tasha. It took two seconds for me to realize what that meant: "The Enterprise C survived!" My friends said, "no, you're crazy." We spent all summer debating it, and eventually they came around to Sela being Tasha's half-Romulan daughter, which was confirmed here. A lot of fun. 😁

31:31 --- Cash is miscontextualizing how to look at Tasha's sacrifice. If anything, this makes her sacrifice hit *harder* vs diminishing it in any way: she was taken prisoner after the rest of the E-C crew (including Castillo) is killed, graped via becoming a concubine, has a child whom she presumably loves and cares for but then has that child (albeit only 4yo at the time and highly brainwashed by her father/culture) turn on her and be the reason why she dies after suffering the way she did. How is that that not a more intense sacrifice than what she was believed to have done before? (Further note to keep in mind: this was extra-hard when you remember that Tasha grew up on a survival-level existence where grape gangs and similar were a real thing -- it's implied that she was graped when she was younger -- so this whole thing was a PTSD trauma hell for her.) If anything, this made me think even _more_ highly of Tasha as a character (granted, only as-related in a few lines of dialogue expositioning the details to us) and how strong/brave she was for doing what she did... especially when it turned out her sacrifice cost her far more than she could have originally envisioned it would. Yeah, sorry Cash -- you need to step back and take a different look at how that storyline played out in that regard.

Defitely one of my favorite episodes of TNG. What a rollercoaster ride. I remember being blown away (happy) when it turned out they were addressing the alt timeline and giving updates and then too soon being blown away (unhappy) to hear of Tasha's death and the manner of it. Looking back I kinda wish we'd at least gotten some reaction druring the series from Data about, arguably, the love of his life's daughter existing and on top of that her being Tasha's murderer.

There is a subtle message in the ships named in Picards Armada. The 3 American Aircraft Carriers in the Battle of Midway were the Yorktown, the Hornet, and the Enterprise. The flagship carrier of the Japanese fleet was the Akagi. So they had the Enterprise, the Hornet, and the Akagi in the armada. The writers wanted to show that while those ships fought each other in the past, in the future they would work together.

I bought a little battery-operated TV that I could hide easily, and started watching WTOF-TV 9 in Steubenville, which aired _TNG_ alternating with _TOS_ from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. every Sunday morning. Consider the strangeness of Worf and Kurn's relationship. As part of Kurn's crew Worf is subordinate to Kurn, but as head of the Hiuse of Mogh, Worf is Kurn's feudal lord. Yes, sometimes Klingon society doesn't make sense as to how they got to survive developing the tech necessary for warp drives without send8ng each other into oblivion.

He may have meant non-humanoid. If so, he may be correct if the M-5 in the TOS episode The Ultimate Computer doesn't count. The name of the episode in which the all-Vulcan manned starship was destroyed is The Immunity Syndrome. The name of that starship is Intrepid (NCC-1631). TOS novels published by Pocket Books gave one of the Intrepid's commanding officers' names as Captain Spiak, while the captain in charge at the time of the Intrepid's destruction was Satak, a name that was used in an earlier draft of the script.

Worf should have. It would have been the merciful thing to do. Where is this kid now going to go? Does he even have a home to go to or will he live in streets? I'm sure Duras had plenty of enemies who will like a piece of this kid. Plus the kid was given to Worf, so if Worf wasn't going finish him then Worf would have had to take him in. He would have to live together with Alexander or that kid from the Bonding.

Your Dragonball t-shirt brought the unbidden thought to my mind "Yamcha would be a senior ensign, too." It also wouldn't surprise me one bit to see a Namekian in a Starfleet uniform. Goku is still the only red shirt to die multiple times and keep on coming back for more.

I watched this when it debuted, back then all we have was a VCR to let us Trekkies rewatch old episodes over and over. Wow I must say I watched the red head guy he was so cute reacting to this I was the same way but i was 10 years old then. This is why "Yesterday's Enterprise" was the best for us because us trekkies know where the path is going to take us for the boys you are going to love the future.

One thing you guys need to know is that this is considered the 100th hour of film footage. Some people say 100 episode actually it’s not the 100 episode but they did roll out a cake and Rotenberry was there and everybody got together and cut a cake that had a 100 episodes on it But actually two episodes more and you’ll get to the real 100 episode. My suggestion gentleman is buckle up and enjoy the rest of the ride because this season you’ve just started and you haven’t even gotten to the Good stuff yet.

I don't know if it will make you two feel any better about it, but I maintain that Worf's entire story here doesn't work nearly as well without K'Ehleyr's death. This is the payoff that that moment set up. And why you got a lot of "just wait" because obviously, spoilers.

When all else fails, just use the ol' tachyon field. If THAT fails, use the inverse tachyon field. And there is always the last defense - the REVERSE tachyon field.

I watched your top 10 reaction moments for 2024 vid earlier today. You may need to expand that for the 2025 video just to accommodate your reactions to this episode alone. I noticed at least 5 real good reactions from you guys for this one, but there were several other good ones as well. May have to go for Top 20 or more for season 5.

This is a fun episode for sure and one of the reasons why I enjoy the Klingon episodes of the series as the acting much of the time is great, stories are fun, and it's always interesting to see how our heros interact and experience it. In this case Worf is a Klingon but he is also an honorable warrior and much of what was happening around him was way different than what he was expecting. I especially live Worf, Kern, and Growon in this episode as their acting is superb.

2:59 technically, Data is the first non-biological life form to command a starship, not non-human. There are plenty of aliens in Starfleet that became captains before Data. In Wrath of Khan, Spock was the Captain of the Enterprise before Admiral Kirk took over, and he considers himself Vulcan. I think there was at least one or two alien captains in the season one episode where Picard uncovers the bluegill parasite conspiracy during his secret meeting with his old friend before they all had their ships destroyed by the bluegills, as well, plus a lot more examples probably.
