There was a scientific paper published back in the 90s about a researcher who deliberately gave himself ear mites. Mites typically don’t prefer human ears, but he had a bunch of cat ear mites and decided to go for it in the name of science. He described it as unpleasantly noisy, itchy, and occasionally painful. He became very aware of the activity and life cycle of the ear mite during the couple of weeks he played host.

I got a clothes moth (or similar small moth) in my ear as a child. I had seen it a minute before, as I woke up, and knew what it was. It set up a horrendous drumming, seemingly unable to back out. Family just laughed and said I’d had a bad dream - because actually of all things it was moths - totally harmless creatures - that I was nervous of anyway! It was like one of those movies where nobody believes the central character os being stalked by something horrible, and think they’re losing their mind. Finally, after 24 hours of intermittent hysterics and refusing to sleep, my mother took me to the GP, who took one look, put in his pincer things and pulled it out, still weakly alive. My mother’s face was a picture!

It’s extremely uncommon for humans to have ear mites. But it is very common for cats and dogs to have them!

I have a lot of doggies, kittys and bunny rabbits. Rabbits can get ear mights that go all the way up to the top of the ears but i use just a few drops of oil, olive oil for mine, every month or so and all are bug free
