I had the SVS Ultra towers and because of your videos I became curious of the RF7III and tried them.... Let’s just say your review is correct! I kept the Klipsch! They’re nothing short of amazing! They beat the SVS all over with clarity and detail for both music and movies! These will be the last speakers I’ll ever need for years to come! Thanks for the vids! It’s what got me to try them!

Hi Kozzy! Thanks for the sub. I have not heard the Def Tech supercube before. I upgraded many years ago from a 10" to a 15" and have never considered anything smaller than a 15". They just provide so much more depth and output.
@17Kozzy17

Youthman that makes sense because larger subs will always have more depth. I do believe definitive technology speakers have a good line and supercubes could be something to add to your content ideas. You’d be surprised what they can do for just the right room size. I’d love to hear your input on them if you ever would do something with them down the road! Keep the hard work!

I tested one of my Bill Fitzmaurice Omnitop 12 speakers plugged into my friend's 4 watt sound system and it was almost triple the perceived loudness (10-15dB) of the little "bookshelf" speakers it came with. A couple of pringles speaker chips powering these speakers will make enough sound for music in a noisy bar. If you have subwoofers you will need more power. The tweeter was a bit harsh in the upper mids but those speakers usually run through a graphic EQ. So speaker sensitivity can make as much difference as amplifier power in many cases. Not to mention they can handle about 500 watts if you want your ears to bleed. It is good to listen and compare loudness levels at the same position on the volume control as some "more sensitive" speakers might have a frequency they play considerably louder but the average sensitivity isn't as much greater as you see on the speaker. A bookshelf speaker could have an 88dB woofer and 98dB tweeter and need a similar sized amp for the body of the music but just need the tweeter turning down. I don't mind doing this as I prefer to have the more delicate drivers in a speaker be sensitive. Eminence APT80 are a good budget sensitive horn tweeter above 4kHz, though they are quite a forward sound if you don't back down the gain - similar to a high quality piezo tweeter without as much horn ringing. They do retain detailed treble at high volume levels. If you want more bass at lower power levels, larger PA style drivers will get you there although the boxes will be bulkier. It usually takes a couple of fifteens in a large ported box to give you a subwoofer that is 100dB sensitivity so the married people tend to use a more powerful amp instead. I have found as not a general rule at all but lower sensitivity speakers usually have a bit softer a sound, but higher sensitivity speakers tend to sound less mushy/boomy than a lower sensitivity speaker fed more power trying to keep up. It's this that can make them more life like if you listen loud. A loud recording of a drum kit is going to sound more similar to the real thing.

Great video, but you should have included that you need to double power output to get a rise of just 3db and double again for each consecutive rise of 3 dbs. If the sensitivity ratings are accurate for both the Klipsch and the SVSs you are reviewing, you would need 16 watts to get to 100 dbs, which the Klipsch hit at just 1 watt. Having said that, the 6.5 db change in your video point to the ratings not exactly being accurate. Even so, for the 6db rise you had to dial in, your receiver had to deliver 4 times the power on the SVS than it did for the Klipsch.
@Youthman
@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
I am familiar with the double the watts to yield a 3dB increase but I never really thought about that when dealing with a receiver increasing the volume of a speaker. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Even if they are 3dB less efficient than they claim, the SVS take about 3X the wattage to achieve the same volume. I just listened to my RF7 III. I have to get within 12” to hear the slightest hiss. About 8” from the Martin Logan 60XTi. I don’t know about you but I don’t sit 12 inches from my speakers
@thegoat164
@thegoat164 3 жыл бұрын
@John Smith Correct! High sensitivity is overrated because unless you are in a very large room high sensitivity is irrelevant. A quality ss amp will drive lower sensitivity speakers to play more than loud enough in the majority of home setups. I'll take the speakers with the better sound quality over the speakers that can play "louder." You can pick any 2 of these 3 options: 1. Good bass 2. Small cabinet 3. High sensitivity This is an immutable law of physics. Since many people want the first 2 due to decorating and other domestic considerations, the 3rd is the one that gets left behind, and since watts are relatively cheap, it's not a problem. High sensitivity speakers have their own virtues, but nothing will ever change the above law. Good explanation for the sensitivity of speakers, one question what do you like better the ultra 16 ported or the ultra 16 unpoured ? .Any chance of doing a comparison between The new RP 8000 F‘s and the RP280f I really know if there is a improvement in the new speaker over the old
@Youthman
@Youthman 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Roman. I’ve haven’t done a lot of comparison between standard (no ports plugged) and extended (1 port plugged) but have been using them in Extended mode for awhile. I might switch to standard for awhile to see if I notice much difference. Might make for some good measurements for a video. The RP280F has been discontinued so I doubt I would be able to get a pair. My guess is there is t a huge difference between the models. If you are considering upgrading, save up for the RF7 III or even the older RF7 II. They are a significant improvement t.

The more components you introduce into the audio chain, the more likely you are to introduce noise. A good receiver is all that is needed to get all the volume you need with a Klipsch. Saves money too!
@Youthman
@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
That also depends on how many speakers you are driving. For example, the Denon AVR-X6400H is capable of powering 11 speakers. I will be installing 4 Atmos speakers tomorrow so I am curious how well it can effectively power all 11 of my Klipsch speakers. My LaScala Trio have a sensitivity of 104dB so that should help greatly. But I still want to see if adding the Parasound Halo A52+ will make a difference by relieving the receiver's amps of some of that power.

@Youthman
@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
The A52+ sounds fantastic with the SVS Ultra Towers, the Klipsch RF-7 III and also my Klipsch LaScalas. From dead quite to immediate explosions, it's simply effortless horsepower that is very neutral sounding. I have always believed your receiver or pre-amp has more determination on "how" a speaker sounds than the power that is driving them. Some amps do have a slight warmer sound and some are better at handling lower impedance dips.

So i’m doubting whether to go for the rp160m with a 440c or prime bookshelves and prime center. Are these easy to drive for something like a denon 2400h?
@Youthman
@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
The 2400 page is 95 W per channel with two channels driven. The more speakers you add to the receiver, the less wattage per channel you will get. I have driven a pair of Klipsch RF83 which are big monster towers using a Harman Kardin AVR 55 (which was only 55 W per channel) and it sounded amazing. That’s one of the benefits with clips speakers is that they are extremely efficient and do not take a lot of power to drive them to pretty ridiculous levels

I’m fairly new to Dolby Atmos but everything that I have read suggest that in ceiling would be the best option, the next best option would be height speakers (like the SVS Prime Elevations) And the most convenient option, but probably the least effective option, would be Atmos modules placed on top of your speakers

another informative video well done Youthman. I certainly agree adding an AMP to a middle or lower end AVR would improve the sound however on the flagship AVR such as the Marantz SR 8012 unless you have power hungry speaker,as I have an anthem PVA 4 125 watts continuous all channels driven.and it didn’t sound any better on my Klipsch RP280f running directly from my Marantz SR 8012 in fact it sounds better on the Marantz.

Could you do a comparison review of the SVS Ultra Tower and the Klipsch RF 7 III?
@Youthman
@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Wes, I returned the SVS Ultra Towers and ended up selling my son’s RF7, gave him my RF7 II and upgraded to the RF7 III. Compared to the Ultra Towers, the RF7 III have a bigger sound stage, has an enormous 1.75” titanium compression driver tweeter, have more bottom end due to the larger 10” woofers and speaker cabinet and have an incredibly refined top end without sacrificing detail and clarity. The Ultra Towers likely fall somewhere between the RP-280F and the RF7 III and based on their price points. Hope that helps.

I wish you did a comparison, between both to see if they actually have 12db difference or not. I wanted to see a 30hz a 50hz 80hz 150hz 300hz 800hz 1000hz 3000hz test tones on a stock AVR with same volume to see if they really really are 12db more sensitive. Because klupsch says 100db on a 1k test tone, while svs says 88db from 300hz - 3000hz. Edit if the klipsch is 100db and 250watts continuous, it should produce 124.8db at 1 meter. Which for it size is realistic but idk. The R-24F uses 2x4.5 inch with sensitivity of 95 db and 75 watts continues . So it should reach 114.5 db at 1m which for 2x4.5 inch woofers is insane and unrealistic for me. But no one is doing apple to apples comparison.

The fact of the matter is that this is nonsense and complete nonsense about 100dB, there is no such data anywhere near it, it is unrealistic for this type of speaker! It’s just that people are very poorly educated and don’t understand what such values are in reality, they wrote to them and took them to heart!)) I still believe in 91db, but 100db is a fairy tale for little children!)))

I've had the same Klipsch RF-5II's for close to 15 years, as my dedicated theater speakers, also 2-channel, which include fronts, center and 2 rears, this system includes a mid-high tier Onkyo TX-NR929 and 1 Sunfire True Signature subwoofer. I think I'm going to finally upgrade them. The new 2018 Klipsch Reference Premier speakers that come out this August are at the top of my list. Which will include the mains that include the 8" woofer, and the center with the two 6.5 woofers, not sure about the surrounds yet, I listen to a lot of 5.1 music so I like the bookshelf (front firing) models as opposed to the bipole. Haven't decided on subs yet, but the SVS SB-4000 and JL subs are at the top of my list . Question: How do you rate SVS sound compared to Klipsch? I know it's an Apple to Oranges comparison, unfortunately no one around me demos SVS, I've compared Klipsch with Martin Logan Motion 40 and 60 series, and while the ML seemed a bit more smooth, airy, and not as in your face as the Klipsch Reference models, they were a great deal more money...I think after 20 years of only having Klipsch, my ears have grown accustom to that "horn sound". Thoughts?
@Youthman
@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Myk, the Reference Premiere are definitely at a much more affordable price point than the larger RF7 III Series. It just depends on what you are looking for and what your needs are. I'm looking forward to reviewing them sometime in the future when they come out. I have heard great things about the SB-4000 but have not heard it myself. I recently reviewed Dual SB16's and they are incredible. I just sent them back today and am still reviewing the PB16 which I REALLY like as they have more output than the SB16's. As far as how do SVS compare to Klipsch? I have only heard the SVS Ultra Towers with Ultra Center. They sound great but they definitely have a completely different signature sound to them. Klipsch speakers provide a more lively, in your face type sound with incredible detail and high sensitivity meaning you can drive them with a lot less power and still get the same volume as you would with a speaker with lower sensitivity. The RF7 III provide a very refined top end, yet they maintain the incredible detail Klipsch is known for. I have not heard the Reference Premiere so I cannot comment on how they sound. My ears still prefer the horn sound as well. I LOVE the detail I get with Klipsch and the power and emotion they provide. With Klipsch, typically the bigger the cabinet, the larger the sound will be. Hope that helps.

Neither sounds better, they both sound completely different. It simply comes down to the sound your ears prefer. Both are great speakers. The Ultra Towers are a bit more picky with placement due to the side firing drivers. They need space to sound optimal.

Hello Mr Youthman, I own 2 RF 82s/RC 62 MARK II.. Looking to upgrade. I am trying hard to decide between SVS ULTRA towers and Klipsch RF 7 iii. I ordered the SVS ultra 45 day trial. The SVS seemed way better than RF 82ii with much detail and less noise at 60-70 levels. Can you please tell me if the RF 7 iii mark 3, would give me even more detail than SVS?. How is the surround, sharpness and the noise with RF 7 iii. I have enough bass with a SVS PB 16.My most important thing is to have details, clean sound with less noise, and also less distorsion with high volume.Please AdviceThanks

@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Aya, I have had the RF7 III and Ultra Towers for several months and although the Ultras Sound great, my ears prefer the RF7 III. They have a refined top end without sacrificing the detail that Klipsch is know for, more bottom end due to the larger Dual 10” woofers, and a bigger overall sound, likely due to the larger speaker cabinet and massive horn. If you feed the RF7 III clean power, your ears will give out before they do. I like them so much that I sold my original RF7’s, upgraded to the RF7 III, and gave my son the RF7 II to match his RC64 II.

@Youthman

Hi Dave I prefer the sound of the RF-7 III over the SVS Ultra Tower but it’s not really a fair comparison. The RF7 Series has a much larger cabinet, larger woofers, much larger tweeter, and a huge horn to disperse the high frequencies which provides a much wider soundstage. Although the Bass response from the SVS Ultra Towers is really good, the Bass from the RF-7 III is ridiculous. 😀. Dual 10” drivers provide plenty of bottom end for my 2ch setup without the need of a subwoofer. I really like the way the SVS Ultra Towers sound, especially for the price but they just aren’t the same caliber as the RF-7 III. I have not heard the Klipsch RP-280F yet but I would think the SVS ultra towers are more along the lines of it than they are with the RF-7 III. What speakers do you currently have?

I believe they are definitely a great bang for your buck and you are getting more than what they cost. I'm not familiar with Dali. I'll have to look them up sometime. My Khorns are the TSCMs I use 5 and they are dangerous. At 110 DB at one watt, a person has to wonder about an amp that claims 175 watts per channel, Denon 8500 that hardly pushes much sound output at half volume, Really odd. I hooked up another actual Denon POA 2800 and oops, hurt my ears really bad still ringing with pain. Oh well, taking a sound break for a couple months. Yeah, I have some NHTs tried them out rated 86DB and the issue you really get is compression. Think of it like a sponge, if we send 100 watts, most speakers use 4 watts of that 100. The rest dissipates to heat. Think light bulb inside the magnet, yeah, so the lower the dB the more chance you get of blowing a speaker to play at reference levels. Klipschorns might use half a watt to get ref level. The other interesting thing, the lower rated output also have a softer sound for hearing details, or you can say really revealing of details. Not all, but yeah, that happens. So late at night, I will use my NHTs, using all separate amps you can just AB the speaker choices, fun fun. I like your videos. Very cool. You really try a lot of speakers too. Nice.

Hi. In my medium size (I think) living room of 19*9*9 feet (having hard tiled floor, concrete walls and ceiling) I have Wharfedale Diamond 220 LCR driven by Yamaha RXV677 AVR. Presently the listening distance is 8 feet. Surrounds are old Sony HiFi Bookshelf (16-32 ohm). I want to upgrade Centre for dialogue clarity. I am considering SVS Prime or Klipsch RP250c (higher price than Svs even after discount). In India both cost 50% more than in US so max budget. May upgrade the LR also in future if required (not bothered about timbre matching presently). My problem is I am very sensitive to sound of Cymbals and bigger bells in temples. I can not stand their lound sound even for a couple of seconds. So shall these speakers with Metal Twitters be shrill or bright at Moderate Volume in untreated room. When I demoed Klipsch RP (some floorstander, RP 160, 450C) in fully treated theatre room, I felt sound of swords a bit sharp/bright. Do my system and room size need very sensitive speakers like Klipsch? Kindly clarify. TIA. Regards Sanjay.

So true. Sensitivity efficiency has nothing to do with which speaker is better. Sounds better. As Klipsch speakers have traditionally been a little too bright sounding to some ears because they use horn divers for their tweeters. To producing the highs. Not sure if it's still the case today in 2018. What kind of tweeters and the materials used can make a huge difference in which brand some one likes. And is more important I think than which speakers are easier to drive.

One important thing to note about sensitivity is that contributes to the maximum loudness of a speaker. Example: If we have 2 speakers: - Speaker 1: with 125W and 100 DB sensitivity ( 121 DB maximum SPL peak) - Speaker 2: with 250W and 88 DB sensitivity ( 112 DB maximum SPL peak) Speaker 1 will sound louder because it will produce a higher SPL ( Sound Pressure Level )
@Youthman
@Youthman 2 жыл бұрын
Isn’t that the whole point of sensitive speakers? They get louder with the same wattage as a speaker that is less efficient and they take less wattage to achieve the same SPL with less wattage as a speaker with lower sensitivity.

And Paul McGowan...maybe six months back had 3,000 subs and now has 29,000. Why? They don't talk about the same shit and same products 24/7. Hi Steve, thank you for your feedback and for your suggestions. The reason why I talk about Klipsch so much is because I have owned a ton of Klipsch products for many years and enjoy the sound and quality of their products. I have no problem reviewing other brands but I can only review and produce so many videos in a given time. In addition to Youthman Reviews, I also maintain a full-time day job, operate a full-time home business at night as well as having a family of 6 to balance. I have recently been in communication with Paradigm, PSA, Emotiva as well as several other manufacturers so there are indeed plans of reviewing other brands besides Klipsch and SVS. I'm not sure why you feel I'm moving from Klipsch to "likely moving to all SVS all the time". The SVS Ultra Towers are great speakers but do not have near the dynamics nor the soundstage as my Klipsch LaScalas, nor the bottom end or overall presence of my Klipsch RF-7 II. I am however ready to upgrade my Klipsch subs. It is possible that I might upgrade to a Dual SVS PB16's but will also soon be reviewing the Power Sound Audio S3601 subs. As far as subscribers, I realize my channel will not appeal to everyone but over the last 90 days, the channel has added 2847 new subscribers with less than 7% who have unsubscribed so if I'm appealing to 93% of my viewers, I must be doing something right. I certainly appreciate my subscribers but realize my channel isn't for everyone. If my channel isn't what you are looking for and you choose to be among the 7%, I can completely respect that.

I listened to a pair of RP-280F speakers in a store without a sub. Just these two. He told me they were connected into a Denon avr costing hardly 280 euros. I forgot the details of the avr. Point is, even though they sounded great on a few genres including jazz and dance/trance, they literally --and I'm sorry for the expression-- SUCKED HARD when we went to metal songs that have one of the best mixes in the world. They sounded so harsh, you couldn't understand what was playing and it was just bad. There was no distortion but it wasn't clear AT ALL. These songs play very well on my current $600 5.1 edifier speakers and I expected a far better quality from Klipsch, but, oh man, I got sooooo disappointed... I was planning to get those speakers and Denon avr x6300H to slowly start building my Dolby Atmos. But when I heard them from that store , yes, with that cheap as hell avr, I was so let down.. Anything you can comment on that?

Sorry you had a bad experience with them. I have not heard the Reference Premier Speakers yet but Klipsch is sending me a new 7.2.4 RP System sometime this month. In the past, some have felt the RF82 II (which are somewhat similar to the RP-280F) were a bit harsh. The RF7 III are super smooth on the top end, detailed, yet very refined. But they should be as they cost a LOT more than the RP-280F.

I already have Edifier S760D that cost me 590 euros. I live in a small room and they kind of satisfy me. These speakers SHOULD be WAY better than my Edifier S760D and they are.. just not in Metal songs where you have guitars and harsh mix. My speakers own the hell out of RP-280F in terms of quality when it comes to metal songs (at least the ones I heard from that store on a 280 euro Receiver) and that's WEIRD, because in terms of speaker quality and material quality and oh my god the price difference, RP-280F should be better by far. My speakers do not provide dolby atmos or DTS-X whatsoever, just regular 5.1 dolby digital and dts surround. I wanted to go for Dolby Atmos and after that experience on that store , on that particular AV receiver and after reading nothing but the best about RP-280F, my dreams are crushed lol

good speakers are picky with amplifier matching, especially Klipsch, you can't expect those speakers to sound good from any crappy receiver, and your edifier is by no means able to reproduce correctly the songs, not even close, there are a lot of details it can't reproduce, you cannot even compare those two, these products are from different worlds
@pitchyydneu8826
@pitchyydneu8826 5 жыл бұрын
I know they are from different worlds. But, even though Edifier speakers are supposed to play worse, they play Metal songs way better, even on flat.. And what defines "correctly" anyway. For me, correctly is how each band has mixed their songs and what it sounds like in your home compared to that. But in the end, it all comes down to whether you like what you hear or not. If you need more bass, more crystal clear sound, more treble etc. Yes, you change your sound and make your .. "own mix", but this is how you make the songs sound better according to your tastes. And I am not sure if you can do that with Klipsch, like I can do with my Edifier..
@georgepopescu1327
@georgepopescu1327 5 жыл бұрын
,,corectly'' = the ability to reproduce the entire frecqency spectrum with good dynamics, a thing that your edifier's are not even close. They need another amp to sound good, period, not the one you have listened. But you don't have to spend 1000$ to upgrade from edifier, you can find a lot of 300$ bookshelf with nice sound.

I had the Ultra Towers not so long ago. They had the biggest soundstage of any speaker i have tried so far and they got real bass. I assume the Klipsch RF-7 III have their charms but considering the money difference you get more with SVS. Whats more they are easier to mate with an amp because you do not have to worry about the highs getting bright. All in all better value for money and more universal appeal, if not better in absolute terms.
@Youthman
@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you do get a lot of bang for your buck with the SVS Ultra Towers. They sound great and have a descent size sound stage and a solid bottom end without sounding boomy. In my room, the RF-7 III have a much wider soundstage (very enveloping sound due to the horn) and due to the refinements in the tweeter and the new rubber horn, the highs are not harsh or overly bright, yet remain very detailed. Most people would be very pleased with either speaker. It all comes down to preference and budget. Thanks for watching!

Interesting....I've never heard that before. I'm not sure how sensitivity would effect bass response. I could be wrong but I would think it would be more depending upon driver size and cabinet. I know my RF-7 II have more bottom end than the Ultra Towers but they have dual 10's vs dual 8's.

Their ratings definitely aren't "apples to apples". Klipsch's sensitivity rating is almost certainly inflated 4-6dB. Even their spec sheet says "*Sensitivity in average listening room" in other words "half-space" - whereas SVS's spec sheet says "Full-space" or anechoic.
@Youthman
@Youthman 6 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure how each company measures the sensitivity of their speakers. I do know that Klipsch does have an anechoic chamber in Hope, AR where they manufacture some of their speakers like the RF-7 III. Whether they use that for all of their speakers or not is unknown to me. The point of the video was to share what sensitivity is and show that it takes more power to drive a less efficient speaker. When I moved the SVS Ultra Towers I to the theater room and hooked them up, I immediately noticed they were significantly lower volume than the RF-7 III so I thought it would be a great opportunity to show physically and audible the difference. Thanks for watching.

@@Youthman 88dB of real is a very excellent indicator and is enough to get a high sound pressure when applying more power. It’s another matter if both manufacturers are lying and they both have inflated figures, then it will be bad. what I heard on KZbin, these svs play very well and do not have much curvature in the frequency response and reproduce the frequency range more or less truthfully
@Youthman

The issue with KZbin demos is they provide no real value in how a speaker sounds. None. In the past I would sometimes provide them but it wasn’t because I believe they matter. Just simply trying to appease some that request audio demos.

@@Youthman It’s clear that it doesn’t reliably give an idea of the sound, but if it’s recorded well, it’s generally very informative. The main problem is that people record sound too poorly, and many listeners do not understand this and make their own assessments. when the sound becomes high-quality, you can understand what acoustics are like
This unknown Klipsch RF7-III speaker is no joke.
