For those out there that want real info instead of "idk klipsch sucks with naming conventions" the Roman '2' is second series. Meaning there's an RF 3 then an RF3 ii. The second series has upgraded crossovers, better tweeter, etc. The higher the Roman number, the better the speaker in the Reference line. iii being the current, and best, in the Reference line. No offense but I HATE when people do reviews and don't know what they're talking about. Kind of redundant no?

Vintage 2003 😂. I'm not knocking what people call vintage anymore. Time moves on. My first pair of real speakers were the Klipsch kg3's from the late 80's. Loved them at the time. Obviously they have come a long way since then. The point being here, I'm starting to feel old 😅😅😅

Hey Zeos, I love your reviews and they have definitely influenced some of my purchases (for better or for worse). Just a thought on this review: Since these speakers are rear-ported they might benefit from being placed much closer to the wall than you have them for optimal bass response. You might want to give these another try with them pressed against the wall and see if they can extend that bass a little better. You'll recall that you had the RP-600M pretty close to the wall and in fact up against your windows almost, and you said they had great bass response. If you still have the RF3 II's, give that a whirl if you feel like it. Cheers

The Saint is my favorite movie. Really pleased me that you played that. 👌 I own these in the 6 inch version. I have them bi-amped (only because I can) at a measly 140w per channel and my volume is usually set to -40dB for casual and -25 or -20dB for loud. You are absolutely right about not needing much power.

Thanks for reviewing, I have the RF3 original version which look identical to these but I think a few years older. I found they had better bass ooomph with the speakers bass port placed about 1 foot away from the wall. That being said I do also have a Yamaha subwoofer for added boom. To my ear the Klipsch outperformed every other speaker in the audio store listening room that I could afford. It broke my heart and I'm sure Paul W. is spinning in his grave to find out they make the reference series in China now.

Long ago in a previous century a buddy of mine bought a pair of Klipsch La Scalas, gigantic cubes with horn loaded tweeters and midrange that completely took over his living room. No WAF, he was single. Those suckers would deafen you with 10 watts. So loud it hurt, but they still sounded great.

I use rca-xlr interconnects for a cheap Logitech 5.1 to go all the way around a bedroom. I noticed that when the xlr connectors (which are metal) touched each other there was indeed a static type noise from the satellite system. Suggestion, use some heat shrink to cover the rca-xlr connection point. See if that changes anything in your signal path

I also used to own a pair of theeeeese... They were the fronts of my matching 5.0 setup. I believe the RF3II was the revision of the speaker. If amped properly IMO I thought they had plenty of bass, so much so, that I never bought a sub for my HT. They are rated at 38hz. I ran them with a Yamaha Avr / Rotel RB Amp 150 X 3. As a Funny side note my dumbarse once used these to DJ a party for The Family in a Pinch. I later ended up blowing one of the tweeters and set them out for the trash. Definitely a Rocking set of speakers for sure. The RF7's were even better with wood cabinets, a 3inch Tweeter, and Dual Tens. The Imaging and staging on those $2200.00 plus beast are incredible, regardless of positioning. In hindsight I should've just gotten a pair those instead.

Whoo hoo a Washington state shout-out! Also, any idea of the specs? I have some DIY HTM-12 that are 8ohm/ 97 db sensitivity and yes, any kind of cable interference or ground loop or dirty power will be audible. I also hooked them up to a Crown XLS 1502 amp and even at high volumes, the VU meter only rarely lit the first green light. But I must say, I think they sounded a tad better with the extra power. Yeah these are nothing special in the Klipsch world. They have way better gems if you go back a few more years. Would love to lend you my KG 5.5s or Quartets to give people a taste of the old Klipsch. I'm local lmk. Prob one of the best older towers they made were the KLFs. Thats def something you should review if someone can offer it. When a clean pair of KLF30s ever show up local i think my KGs might have to be replaced.

I had the rf82's in my home theater, loved them for home theater, but music always sounded thin in the midrange

Very interesting with that missing deep Bass although you would expect more from two 8“ drivers. The Heresy III has a 12“ woofer and only goes down to 58 Hz although there is a midrange (horn loaded) driver that should allow the 12“ to concentrate on the Bass.

Heresys have always lacked base. The RF3s go down to 37hz - plenty of bass. Of course they are going to sound like crap sitting in the middle of a room on top of tables. 🙄
