Am I the only one who loves the sound of the 747s engines spooling up for takeoff? Flying for a regional in a ERJ, hope to see the cockpit of a 747 flying freight.

Very considerate of the airport construction people to put that zebra crossing on the runway. Mind you, it must be annoying for the pilot when a woman with a pram crosses over in front of them. Or schoolkids with their teachers. They're the worst. They take all day to cross !

747 Uses 1-gallon Of Jet Fuel A second. It takes around 36,000 gallons to fill a 747. The cost to fill a 747 is roughly $180,000 dollars. 747's have a range of around 7,000 miles. See where the cost of flying is justified. Add up maintenance, fuel, etc adds up real fast.

If you can fly a Cessna you can fly these magnificent flying machines except for Deleted. She takeoff out of the Bahamas and heads east to go to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida KFLL. The navigation computer picked up a KFLL in Africa and she heads for it. I waited a couple of minutes hoping she would catch her mistake since the computer was picking up KFLL but not the right one. The distance to destination should have been a red flag as well as the heading EAST. I finally told her " Ft Lauderdale is that way-pointing to the tail "

This concern me a bit after see what happened in National Air Cargo in Afghanistan. In this profile there is not much room for pilots to recover the airplane, after some cargo shifts inside happens. I do know KLM has pretty hard checking and precautions to this never happen, but is interesting for me to think what you gonna do if happens. So it aways concern me in my SIM flights on heavy loaded 747 take off.

Incorrect, the PF (pilot flying) was doing a very, very good job at maintaining bug speed (the purple marker). There was also an obvious wine component. A real 747 is not like Flight Simulator - the moves a lot in real life but is incredibly minor - don't forget, this is indicated airspeed, not ground speed; that is increasing all the time (once past acceleration altitude of around 1200ft or so). His pitch up was required to bring the speed back a touch to maintain bug speed... that is all!
@andycyyeung1
@andycyyeung1 10 жыл бұрын
FSXreality agree with you....the typical acceleration altitude is about 1500 ft in Hong Kong and the small fluctuations in speed is because of the small changes in headwind due to the special high terrain near the airport which causes some changes in wind speeds. the pitch up and speed is as planned in the FD which is shown as the purple cross

I've only ever ridden in the passenger portion of an airliner, so I hope this doesn't sound too silly... but am I correct when I say that the captain/pilot is sitting in the left-hand seat and the co-pilot is in the right? And if so, why did the co-pilot handle the take-off? Is that just up to the pilot's discretion? Thanks!
@Tank50us
@Tank50us 10 жыл бұрын
the First Officer is usually a trainee for the aircraft. He's usually already completed his simulator time, and is now needing to complete is live time in the plane to get the captains seat. To facilitate this, pilots and FOs often alternate the duty. The pilot is usually senior to the FO anyway, and usually has thousands more flight hours under his belt. And with 3 simple words, the pilot can re-take control of the plane... "I have control"

It does not matter how much or how little time the co-pilot has they alternated each leg. It keeps both of them in the loop. It also gives the co pilot time in type and gets him ready to take over as captain when a slot opens up.

In this video, is the pilot flying solely by the artificial horizon (if that is what it's called)? Can the rate of climb be adjusted on screen, that is, can those marks that he is flying to, be moved up or down the screen?
@andycyyeung1
@andycyyeung1 10 жыл бұрын
The pilots fly with the Primary Flight Displays in front of them which does include a AHI(Artificial Horizon Indicator). the two lines after takeoff both vertically and horizontally is the FD(flight director) path which is preset and determined by the weight, thrust and acceleration altitude etc. the rate of climb can be adjusted manually using whats known as the V/S mode which climbs/ descends the aircraft to the rate which the pilot inputs.
