I work for Pratt and will speak as a fan of channel , not an employee due to Company private etc. So pre COVID, GTF development was rough on the hardware, and that goes along with accelerated development. Now, remember how P&W in the 90’s and 2000’s laid everyone off and had vendors start making more and more and more. Now P&W does not have the human side of things or the machines to do it anymore and they are now so stuck with what they get based on supplier schedules. That is the root, the pandemic just brought it out. You can’t train a good engineer or a great machinist in five years. Now the higher time early block gtf’s are worn out, GE and LEAP will be there too, we all buy from the same suppliers.

This version of the P&W Geared Turbofan suffers from higher than expected wearing out unlike the problems faced with the versions used exclusively for A220 or as an option for the A320neo. Therefore I’m surprised this grounding of E2’s didn’t happen sooner knowing how quickly it wears out even if doesn’t have the other troubles

This has been happening for quite some time now. Yesterday only 7 of the 15 planes at KL-C operated a commercial flight. Three of the planes have been grounded for about five months . The solution is not only software related.

People need to understand that the quest for efficiency and lower cleaner burning engines comes at a HIGH cost. The auto industry has experienced this, as has the trucking industry and the airline industry. This quest to squeeze the extra little mileage means more expensive, complicated systems that have to have the bugs worked out. Then throw in the pandemic and shut down companies not producing parts and now we have these expensive, technical, complicated engines that few can work on. People need to be aware of you need to be careful what you hope for !! !
@filledwithvariousknowledge2747 Жыл бұрын
That’s why I believe we will just have to switch fuel type eventually but make sure the engines made before are compatible
@josiaevans Жыл бұрын
So are you saying we should stop developing new technology overall?
@rafaelwilks Жыл бұрын
You don't quite understand that the quest for efficiency and lower cleaner burning engines doesn't always at a HIGH cost. The plain and simple fact is, the CFM LEAP is far better than the Geared Turbofan, and the GEnx is another new engine program that has proven to be highly reliable - more reliable, in fact, than older, previous, "proven" technology. Facts are stubborn things.

Not sure why KLC would be wet leasing older E190’s. It’s much more likely to be a dry lease as KLC already operate the aircraft.Any wet leases are more likely to be for aircraft or aircraft types on in the KLC fleet.

Boeing and United suffered additional dents in their reputation in 2021 when UA328 happened and some 777s got grounded. However, unlike the MAX crashes which Boeing is to blame for and puppygate which United is to blame for, PW is to blame for UA328 and the 777 grounding, and yet Boeing and United took the reputational dents. Boeing and United deserve a chance to bite PW where it hurts.
@neilpickup237 Жыл бұрын
@ayushghosh1155 Not only are they scared, but they will also have little if no room to delay their liability by, for example, offering discounts on future purchases of aircraft or services. In the case of them causing an operator to fail, it will be creditors chasing them. They will demand compensation in full and without delay for the simple reason that they have no interest in maintaining or enhancing any future relationship with P&W.

It's a really good plane, it's superior (in terms of the airframe) in every way to the E190/E195 it replaces, but the E2's Achilles heel is its engines - the worst engines in the West. If it were powered with GE engines, all this major engine trouble would literally never have happened. Basically, the E2 is an unusually good airframe powered with unusually bad engines. Here come the wet-leased first-generation E195's with good old GE technology to the rescue 😁

It's definitely worse than the Trent 1000, because at least the Trent 1000, as bad as it was, never caused any airline to cease operations on account of its unreliability.
