Oh my...the tone is gorgeous. The HX does an incredible job here, you'd have made it a blind test I'd have been so lost ahaha ! Awesome playing, as always...so versatile, your feel just blows me away everytime

Thank you. It's nice to know that the playing has 100% more to do with the tone as opposed to the pedal. I never thought of buying a Klon, but many times pondered a Klone. No more of that.

Sounds the same and really good. Thanks you. What is nice is you have the pedal so you can set them the same or fairly close. I just got the pod go and will give this a try. One thing I’m finding is that I don’t know how to set the pedals and just start turning knobs. But learning quickly which ones I like.

The stomp sounds great although I do prefer the ktr, it seems to be doing something in the upper mids and highs that the stomp is missing, at least in the low gain settings

The differences are so minute, it’s not worth buying another pedal. The HX Stomp does an admirable job. I heard a rumour that you’ll be singing for us on Christmas Eve. Looking forward to it 😉

I do think the Klon sounds better, but the difference isn’t enough for me to buy one when my helix is so close. Plus, playing live nobody’s really going to notice the difference.
@picksalot14 жыл бұрын
Extremely close tones - Impressive. My new HX Stomp cost less than a new Klon KTR. I don't think the KTR sounds quite like a Centaur, or as good. That would be quite the test for the HX Stomp! I enjoy these types of comparisons, as it helps me appreciate how well incredible pedal tones can be dialed in on the Stomp. Thanks
@jimamsden4 жыл бұрын
Great comparison. This lets us all have confidence that our Helix investment is going to get us close to the real tones, at least in a gigging situation. John, will you do something on Helix fuzzes - I've been trying to replicate the tones Jeff McErlain gets from that Jesse Davey King Tone silicone fuzz, but I'm not being that successful. I also use a Variax into VDI, so I can't rely on Auto impedance to tailor the tone.
@MrElectricN83 жыл бұрын
The sustain effect and tone transparency of a klon type pedal is the hardest to replicate. I use the hx stomp minotaur to boost my centura via fx loop. Stomp is so good. The amp feel is really there with the sag control always at 100.
@lucadotti29282 жыл бұрын
I've been considering getting a centura. All I use currently is a stomp... Could you explain how you use it "via fx loop"?
@MrElectricN82 жыл бұрын
@@lucadotti2928 HX Stomp has an FX Loop block. So in your chain it may look like this Minotaur > FX Loop block > AMP > Reverb.
@jackprice78284 жыл бұрын
I actually like the Stomp version. It's a little more crunchy.
@Nikkohh4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this awesome comparison! Do you think you would have similar results if you were comparing the two going into a real amp? I just wonder if/how the A/D/D/A conversion from the stomp would effect the tone in that context. Cheers mate
@johnnathancordy4 жыл бұрын
Yeh so that's what I reckon - in the video I mention this - a real amp I think is more sensitive to this kind of stuff - for instance into a modeller a Boss Sd1 and Sd1 waza basically sound very similar, into an amp the differences are more pronounced....so I reckon for sure there'd be more of a difference

Interesting... I used line6 for years in a hybrid rig with Marshall & orange heads & cabs... returning to music 20yrs more later it’s all changed except that line6 still struggle getting those higher frequencies right. I have a boss now whereby it’s the other way around. Solution? Quad Cortex?

I mean at this point the difference only matters to nerds and cork sniffers, too bad I'm a nerd cause I can't stop hearing small differences lol. There's like a million reasonably priced clones tho that sounds great. I like the digital drives in the box but digital drive plus tube amp doesn't do it for me. PS jealous of the awesome shirt
