I think the most bizarre thing about the reporter's question is that is was posed in German (by, as far as I can tell, a German reporter). My guess is that if an English reporter had asked Klopp in English, he would have felt obliged to reply in English. But with the reporter conveniently asking in German, it would have felt somewhat silly for Klopp to reply in English.

Most people don't seem to get why he refused. The fact that the "journalist" himself asked in german but wanted him to answer in english and basically do a translater's job was just disrespectful. It felt like "I'm gonna make my life easy by asking in german and translating it afterwards but you do our work please for your part and speak english immediately" It had pretty much "dance monkey, dance" energy and didn't have anything to do with the fact that hes's a german in germany. Another big thing is wherever in the world you go, restaurants, shops, advertising boards and lots of other things are all written in English. Schools in England do not have a compulsory language to learn in lessons, you get to choose a language to learn if you wish. Maybe we should put a compulsory language lesson into our schools such as German or any other.

Martin swift: Compulsory language should be Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin), given that those 2 languages (along with English) are spoken by the majority of the world's population, therefore they are most useful. @@thomass8871 That's hilarious coming from a Turk, genuinely. Are you one of the lucky ones living in Germany away from that poor shithole country you call home? Or are you slaving away on a peasant's wage in Turkey, being miserable, broke and slinging shit towards people living in the better half of Europe?

@@zafferung4440 English and German are cut from the same cloth, not only this but English is the international language, it doesnt mean english speakers are forcing you to speak another language in your own country it means that if you can speak english, and you are comfortable speaking it, and you just so happen to be speaking at an international sports event, one which literally has the brand "FedEx" as a sponsor, makes you choosing to not speak english seem like a personal mental issue.
