Part 1 vlog about a 3-day 2-night adventure motorcycle camping ride in the Chattahoochee National Forest in N. GA October 2021. First-time adventure ride for my brother-in-law water crossings, waterfalls, getting lost, and a bear encounter while riding our motorcycles deep in the Chattahoochee National Forest. Come join me on this adventure where I discuss how the little adventures in our backyards can make everlasting memories.

Thanks Rob! Still haven’t officially recorded with my new GoPro 10 yet but looking forward to it. We need to do the collaborative project we’ve been talking about. Maybe Scull Shoals, let’s connect.

I love the videos. I'm also in North GA and just picked up a CRF300L. It's cool to see some of the places and events near me to explore. Hoping to make this year a busy one with offroad riding.

Congrats! That's a great bike and perfect bike for the trails up here. There's a morning ride every Saturday morning at 9:30 am taking off out of Two Wheels of Suches, all are welcome. I joined once and looking forward to joining the next one. Also, look up my other videos where you will find links to GA Dual Sport which lists all of the local rides. Scull Shoals ADV/Dual Sport Ride is coming up at the end of April in Union City GA and there's still room to join. Cheers!

Had an unforgettable time with you bro! One of the reasons I post these videos is to journal the experiences. When I watch them again, the memories come soaring back and pushes me to plan the next one. Part 2 will be posted within the next 2 weeks.

Excellent video. The trip, the bikes, and the message are all great. I would like your input on riding the 790 off road. I ride dual sports. I took my Yamaha 250 on the Trans America Trail in 2019, and I rode my Honda XR650L on part of the Kentucky Adventure Trail in 2021. I have to be honest, the XR650L was a handful on the tight single track. It weighs about 345 lbs. While parts of the trail were wide open and smooth, there were a lot of very rutted, muddy, and rocky trails, and it was on these trails that the XR650L whooped my butt. I'm sure that it would have been easier if I was a little younger. I'm 56 and I admit I don't have the same stamina I had at 35. Do you find that the 790 is difficult to keep upright on rough trails? Just yesterday I stopped by the KTM dealer and sat on the 890 Adventure. It felt nice, but it also seemed wide and heavy. I would really like to hear about your experience on the 790. Ironically, I actually have a mid size twin project that I have never finished, and it actually feels similar to the 890 I sat on yesterday. It's a 2016 Honda CB500X. I bought a complete Rally Raid kit for it which turns it into a very capable adventure bike. Although it's not as powerful as the 790/890, it is very similar in size and weight, and once the Rally Raid suspension is installed, it is quite good off road. The CB500 only has 1500 miles on it. I couldn't pass up the deal so I bought it with every intention of completing the conversion, but I bought the XR650 instead, and it has taken up all of my time. After the XR wore me out on the Kentucky trip, I'm starting to question whether or not I should even attempt to finish the Rally Raid project. I'm also thinking of staying away from mid size twins altogether so your input will be greatly appreciated and taken into consideration.

Thanks for the comments and for watching the video. My honest opinion on the KTM 790 ADV R takes a little context. I've ridden motorcycles for many years but going on my second year on dirt/off-road. Never road dirt bikes in the past either, the closest was mountain biking. The 790 was my first off-road-capable motorcycle and I've pushed my limits on it on numerous occasions. I love it but have to admit it's a handful on the single track and technical trails. It's a 450lb motorcycle and can be a handful when moving slowly just like the other mid-sized twin bikes. The lower center of gravity with the tanks is clearly noticeable and helps me balance when I have a full tank, unlike bikes that carry the gas up high. I've ridden it at dual sport events and hit trails that are clearly meant for much smaller dual-sport or dirt bikes and made it through all of them but not without drops and hard work. As my skills are getting better the bike seems easier to ride and I'm able to do more. The electronics also assist, specifically the traction control and adjustable ride modes. Now that I have a dual-sport I notice a considerable difference between both. Two completely different machines with different purposes. The most challenging trail I took the 790 on was a very rutted, rocky, debris-filled very steep uphill gully with several rock steps. I dropped it 3 or 4 times but made it through which was a badge of honor for me. I was spent after that ride. My advice is if you are looking to do a single track and technical trails then you will be less stressed and tired at the end of the day with a lighter bike but it all depends on your skill level. I see guys ride the 790 and 890 like dirt bikes but at the end of the day they are still throwing around a 450lb bike and there is no way around that. I'm glad I bought the KTM 790 vs. the T7 or other mid-weights that carry the gas high and don't have the electronics which I enjoy using and have saved my tail a few times. Now that I also have a dual-sport I pick and choose which bike I will ride and will choose it over the KTM for single track and very technical trails. Hope this helps and hope you make a decision that you are happy with. Cheers.

@@theEHWAZ Thanks for the quick reply. I just watched the video where you rode the 790 on Flatland Road. It looked rough. I also watched all of the KLX300 videos again. It looked almost effortless compared to the 790. So I kind of knew what your response to my question would be, and I agree. I just need to pick and choose which bike I ride on each trip. You said something that really made good sense; regardless of age or stamina, you still have to manhandle a 450lbs bike on tight single track. That says it all. I'll stick to the smaller dual sports for the rough stuff. Thanks again.

@@jimhackney4727 Flatland Road is the trail I commented about. I hit it again late summer with a different group and made it through the entire trail but dropped the 790 numerous times, one time in a deep rut almost on top of me. Unfortunately didn’t have my GoPro. Can’t wait to try it on my dual sport and so will record it when I do. Cheers
