In this video I show you how I replaced my front fork springs on the KLX 300. The 2024 KLX 300 is easy to work on and upgrade your suspension. I got the front fork springs from Race Tech. They have a calculator on their website to get the correct spring rate. Motion Pro makes a Damper Rod Bleed Tool that will help you get this job done quick.

Thanks very much for taking the time to make & post this video. I'm 5'10", 220 and have a lot of experience on a heavier KLR trail riding. The first time I rode my '24 KLX300 and let off the throttle in first gear standing up, I wasn't expecting it and remember thinking I was going over the handlebars because it dove so sharp just on decel. Calculator ended up suggesting a .52 KG/mm rate (vs. the .38 KG/mm stock spring). FWIW, I didn't need the motion pro damper rod tool since I put the bike up on a lift & removed the front wheel. That allowed me to move the forks up & down (independently) to fetch the damper rod. When I needed the fork to stay fully compressed, I fashioned a bungee to keep it up. The tool would be very handy otherwise. Also, my cap used a 30mm socket instead of 32mm. Concerning the fork oil, Racetech suggested 90mm from the top and after taking out the stock springs, it was so close already I didn't need to add or remove any fork oil. I didn't use the washers that came in the racetech box, nor did I have to fab any spacers like other fork springs in bikes require. This was "plug & play". For others considering this, a reminder to retain & reuse the "washer" (a.k.a. fork spring guide) that sits between the top of the stock springs & the fork caps. Rear shock is still stock for now, maybe upgrade it later. But this has improved the handling so so so much its unbelievable! I don't mean to hijack your post, just thought of some things others may have questions about. I've changed springs in 2 bikes before, but no 2 are the same. Wow....I had no idea it was that easy. Watched both your vids replacing springs and now I feel dumb for never doing it on my previous 2. Id love to see a video comparing how it feels.

Hey now you know. I think if I was sticking to the streets I could survive with the soft stock suspension. But I love riding trails and being over 250lbs those stock springs just don’t cut it.

Air bleeders on the front forks work wonders on that bike to stop the initial harshness once the forks get up to temperature

As a fellow not small guy, pretty awesome to see your feedback on the small dual sport. I have been wondering if it would still be a solid choice for a 6’+, non stick figure guy and you are making it harder and harder to not pick one up

This is the info I've been needing. I just bought a klx300, picking up later this week. I am a big boi too (6'4" & 245lbs), what other upgrades do you have planned to make this bike more big boy friendly? Shocks, pegs, handlebar, and barkbusters are first on my list

Ohhh yeahhh! If suspension is first on your list check out Race Tech for Front Springs, and Cogent Dynamics for rear (they had the thickest rated rear spring I could find). Handlebars I went with Pro Taper CR HI bend and Tusk 30mm risers. (This set up doesn’t require you to change stock cables) pegs I went with IMS super Stock they are much wider. I got size 15 feet and they work for me. I should have the pegs, handle bars and risers linked in the description.

I got them from Race Tech. When you get on Race Tech’s website there is a calculator that asks you questions like your weight, skill level etc. Fill that out and it will let you know which spring rate they recommend. I’ll link to their page.
