RFK Sunday 6 10 73. Went to hundreds of GD shows... this really was the greatest. Last great wave of the Psychedelic revolution, and people came from all over the USA for the 2 day affair. This was also before Maple Leaf Wilson went to India to find a cannabis type that could be grown inside under artificial lights. He came back with indica, a very stoney, depressant type. But here at RFK it was all sativa - the psychedelic, up form... and everyone was on acid, too. (Indica ruined many a concert for numerous years. It was ok when the music was up, but the sec the Deed went into, say, a Stella Blue, the bottom would drop out of the audience. This was finally resolved when the founder of the Danish Seed Bank began to mix indica with sativa to produce very effective indoor growing plants, but with much of the indica aspect restored. Hooray !!)

Youre absolutely right on both counts,man..Apart from fine,home made hash,i like the dead when im lifted by c.sativa. Sadly theyre all too rare these days as many folks want the faster,heavier(boring)indicas..I appreciate the mind expanding properties of good c.sativa esp with a good Dead psychedelic improv,like we have here...vibes bro.

What else but a great moment in the history of American culture, music. Louie Armstrong, Duke Ellington, where else do we find a match in composition and sheer virtuosity. The Grateful Dead song catalog and their grand output of music over the years impresses me more and more.

If I could have a wish it would be that it really were only 4 people who just don't get it. I mean even if you never got to see them live sometimes "canned music" has the oppur- tunity to deliver something truly beautiful if not inspiring EVEN. IMO arguably one of the best bands to lend them selves to that chance. Ohhhh.. my RFK memories some of the best shows with opening acts too. I remember waiting on the mail just to see who the special guest was going to be WOW even the tickets were special

Those who say 73, and maybe RFK sound accurate. I heard 10/18/72 and Bobby has more fuzzed tone. And the watery-toned Garcia, and Keith playing electric piano here so definitely sounds like mid 73.

Not Fox Theatre, in that show they don't go into the PITB reprise after the jam, intead they do a little drum break and head into Dark Star -> Morning Dew before the reprise.

I happen to think that the Dead and Pink Floyd are two sides of the same coin. The Dead's British counterpart. Both bands starting off very experimental and progressing into great musicians. But also two distinct different bands.

PITB was perhaps the Dad's best early-70s jam song, the jams of which were always ruined for me by Donna's caterwauling at their end. Sitting here at 10:55 hoping to be spared in a few minutes. (Nope! 13:14! Ugh! Even the band is thrown completely off by it at 13:23.)

I dunno, 3 and half minutes in I'm bored silly. When does it get good? They got way too noodly after PigPen died. Give me the Other One 4/28/71 over this a thousand times.
@sweetpeajunglebean8 жыл бұрын
+Mark Saltveit i hear ya. 73-74 era jams don't have that same driving sense of tension that made late 69-71 era jams more forceful and compelling. the jazzy freedom of the single drummer still makes these jams wondrous to behold, though.
@commontater97858 жыл бұрын
+Mark Saltveit Sure, that The Other One you love is great. Yes, the Dead got noodly at times. This jam is not noodly, it is another kind of music from your TOO. Relax your mind, it is not dying.
@garbobnewman9208 жыл бұрын
+sweetpeajunglebean hell yah billy the jazz man
@tonydanis14808 жыл бұрын
They could get noodly, but, if you could see this transcribed into a score, you'd see they're doing some very complex, structured stuff. The trick here is to try and pick out Weir in this recording (which is tough)n and then you can see how disciplined and non-random this is..............
