Kmart - Belleville, NJ *Now Closed*

The orange signs are actually the old 2006-2008 remodel. This theme was defunct by 2009. The red signs around the poles and the K layaway sign are new. The orange theme was stopped as deemed to costly. Kmart then switched to white walls with red signs. Former kmart manager here.

Thank you for the info. I had no idea this remodel was this old already. I personally think it looks great. The white walls are fine but like with the older stores, i think it makes it look older. The signage looks nicer in my opinion too. Either way, it was still nice to see a Kmart with a different look. None of them around Pittsburgh looked as nice as this one. I can understand orange and brown paint and the nice signage cost a lot. However, with how nice it looks, it would pull me into the store more often. I guess it still didnt really improve sells which stinks. Anyway, thank you again for the info. I appreciate it!

@@WallieB26 No Problem. I was a manager for 2 years with them. And the remodel did help the stores. In 2009 kmart posted their profit since emerging from bankruptcy. 2006-2008 was consistent sales increases. However fast Eddy wasnt going to allow this. Wow you brought back so many childhood memories I remember as a kid my dad would get out of work Friday on pay day & he'll take us out to this Kmart or the one in Lodi which closed a few years ago. I haven't been to this Kmart since like 05 back when my dad was alive, sadly he passed away in 06, but the memories you brought back got to me! Thanks so much for sharing the video.

So this was my local Kmart and yes this Kmart open back in 1973 And it just shut down In 2021 and they’re going to make the store now into a Walmart

The back inset area would have been the original "Cafeteria". The lowered ceiling at the very back defined where the grill, fryers, prep area, and steam tables were.

Yes I can understand his enthusiasm, it looks like the MODEL Kmart store!! Many of the non-closing ones don't look HALF this good!! So hopefully it'll be among the VERY last to close.

That’s pretty cool Wallie. Those colors seem vintage but new at the same time. Maybe Kmart should apply this concept to other stores as their new look. I would also paint the wall black behind the Kmart sign by the exit door. It’s hard to see otherwise. The red Kmart blends in with the orange wall.

1:06, there's no "Antonini curve" meaning it went from the red/turqouise sign to the Big Kmart sign to the current sign, no block K and script "mart" seen during Antonini's reign (not every Kmart was changed under him, while nearly 100% of them were updated under Floyd Hall to Big Kmart or Super Kmart).

The "low roof area" as I used to call it as a kid is a favorite of mine in many department stores here in Aus. It was more common in older stores and in lots of cases covers up the massive hvac equipment. Sometimes its a mezzanine plant room or office as well. Those low ceiling areas are cozy. Also check out Kmart Aus. Still has an awesome logo!

In the back where the ceiling drops and the floor is different was the original Kmart Cafeteria, that orange, black and brown interior with those signs was a mid 2000's remodel, actually the that purple sign is newer than those orange and black signs with the white letters, so is the layaway sign lol. My local Kmart in Tehachapi CA has that same signs, except they painted over the orange and brown and black last year to be white.

Mine in Newburyport MA is gone too! And i agree the store itself and the building is beautiful, but the parking lot needs some major help to it. It needs to be all dug up and resurfaced. Thank you for doing justice to my Jersey KMart, and I'm sure the others to come will be super awesome. Guessing this KMart has survived the many closings is because it makes good $$$$$ and may be the only option for a big discount department store in the area. Don't recall if there's a Wally World or Tar Shay near Bellville (or West Orange.) There's the KMart in Kearny which my friend says is always busy even with a Wally World down the road. Noticed this Kmart did not have a garden center or Pharmacy. I believe that area with the drop ceiling might have been the KCafe/Little Caesars. As you and Kayla pointed out the colors of the floor/walls changed. Good call by you both. It's a beautiful store, something that could have been done to your KMarts in your area. But Fast Eddie only sees the real estate value and throwing himself into a pool of water like Scrooge McDuck. Can't wait for you to come back and do more justice to the retail in my area. And seeing you are reaching 17K subscribers... you can do it man!

Catman Mark Blanchard Eddie lampert never should have been allowed to buy sears and put them together with KMART but both of them made plenty of mistakes long before lampert took over and drove a lot of customers away. Lampert talked a big game but never did anything to make Sears and KMART better.

I realize you can't see show everything, but I worked for 40 years in Kmart shoe dep'ts and I wish you would do a quick walk-thru of shoe dep'ts on your visits. As you guessed, the darker brown floor used to be in the eatery, whatever it used to be called. What time of day were you there? They didn't seem at all busy, which doesn't bode well for the store staying open.

There is another Kmart literally 2.5 miles down the street from this one. I filmed that too. It's in Kearny, NJ. Then there is one in NYC that I filmed which is about 20 minutes away or so. And another about 30 minutes away in West Orange, NJ that I filmed.

I still don’t understand why people don’t take advantage of the spend x amount get x amount back deals more. Seriously. I try to avoid Walmart as much as possible, because I can shop around and mostly find things just as cheap if not cheaper on sale at other locations and get loyalty points which I can turn into free stuff. I really feel like Walmart feels like they can do whatever they want because people will shop there. It’s pretty bad in Canada, there are no other options anymore

Christine Beaumont if lampert knew what he was doing he should have done a full revap of ALL of the Sears and KMARTs and advertised better. Also launched a new online store when he bought Sears and make it like an amazon before they got really huge. Maybe more people would have gone to the stores and spend money at the stores and felt that he was actually putting in money to keep the stores going good.
