Growing up in Westland, right along the west border of Garden City, I have traveled all the roads you were on, more times than I can count. Used to take Farmington Rd. to work at my shop, on Ford Rd at Farmington. Cruised for girls in many of those neighborhoods, in my teen years. Good video Chris.

Thanks for this tour, born there 1962 moved out in 1977 to St Clair shores, left Michigan in 1981 some times I wish I stayed, my fondest memories was trucking by foot on winter vacation down ford road from Hubbard street to Kmart buy some model kits to build, have a grilled cheese sandwich and hot chocolate. Then stop by GC library pickup a book and walk on back. In summer time I would have a hot dog and root beer at the A&W which I think was almost across from Stew evenens Lincoln mercury went to Marquette, memorial and Vogel schools Would have went to GC west if I stayed class of 81. Took my wife there in 2017 and visited Edsel mansion and the Henry Ford museum.

I remember that A&W had the weirdest passenger window drive thru.

Garden City is slowly turning into the next Inkster. I would say head farther north or northwest for a better place to settle down in.

I visited Garden City last week for the first time in many years, couldn't believe how down hill it has become, so sad to see it that way. But then again I can say the same about Westland.

I grew up in Wayne/Westland that whole area has gone down hill badly. What a shame to go into my neighborhood I grew up in.

This brings back memories… that Kmart, on Thanksgiving 2007 my dad and I went and bought the TV I’m watching this on. Countless memories of that store growing up. I went to school at Memorial Elementary on Marquette, and briefly to the high school there. My best friend’s mom worked at the diner, GJ’s, depicted at 14:44. It’s been so many years.

Thank you so much for this! I grew up here and I miss it every day, I remember going to learn about the OG Little Caesar’s in middle school for a junior finance trip! Some days I get sad driving down Tennessee roads because for a moment I forget I’m not back home anymore 💔

I grew up in Garden City moved out west in 2006. My family has lived there since way before it was a city. It was a great place to be a kid in the 70s and 80s. Still have family and a lot of friends there.

Can a resto / motel / laundromat / gym business survives in this city.....?
@brendansFirstTime2 жыл бұрын
There's no motels here. Romulus has all off the hotels as it's home out the Metro Detroit Airport roughly 15-20mins away. Family owned restaurants do great here alongside our neighboring towns/cities. We live for good food. We have cleaners here. They do great constantly packed, every main road here and nearby serves apartments. Garden city has a planet fitness. Not even 5mins out of Garden there are many other name brand gyms as well

Chris didn't mention any history of Garden City as it changed its name, it had soldiers in the Battle of Gettysburg that Mustered in Detroit. I'm from Downriver and just wait until global warming really gets bad, Michigan will look like Paradies compared to other states. lots of land above sea level, a lot of freshwater
