I’m 55 years old, 6 feet tall, weigh 192-197 most of the time, go to the gym 4-5 days a week, exercise on a cross trainer for 30-45 minutes, sit in a sauna afterwards for 15-20 minutes, downhill ski all winter, mostly, but have stopped doing it. And I drink a gallon of water all day at work working as a chef. For the past 5-7 years, I’ve suffered knee pain, tried synvisc injections, cortisone, with little or no relief and just sucking it up. I’m done and going under the knife next month for a total knee replacement. Diet is just a bandaid. Not everybody has had an easy life working a white-collar job hitting the gym to keep fit into middle age. My right knee is bone on bone in the medial and middle compartments and left knee bone on bone in the medial compartment. The first needs to be done; it’s pain and suffering the first month, but it’ll probably be better than what I’ve been through!

@@beachgurltarot3228 yes! I had my surgery 4 weeks ago today. 2 nights in the hospital and used a Walker to get around the house the first week. Got off the narcotic’s after a little over a week. Only use ibuprofen and acetaminophen 2-3 times daily and one of those ice buckets you plug in, tape the cord to your knee, and let it sit there. The hardest part is doing all your exercises. I lift and bend a lot, but rely mostly on my physical therapist to do it for me. I can get around just fine now and will be able to drive again soon, just a lot of tightness mostly in my thighs. Otherwise doing well.

I work for a physical therapy clinic. I'm not a physical therapist but I've worked with many. With the knee like some people have said moving it and stretching it are good. But also and probably most importantly you need to strengthen that knee. For many people they haven't worked out in years so you can start with simple things like squats without weight. Now of course everyone has a pain tolerance and everyone should go to what they can tolerate so really no more than a 3 or a 4 max. You can also do simple things like stairs. You only need 1 step and you can step up and down. You can hold onto a railing especially at first but eventually you should become strong enough to where you can do without. You can always go physical therapy, knee arthritis is easier to treat than you might think. The therapist is going to do a lot of hands on things like moving the knee into flexion (bending) and extension (straightening) if you have a very low pain tolerance have a doctor do prp or gel shot first before therapy. However long term I don't think it's a good idea to keep getting shots onto the knee. So I or two in the beginning should be enough and by the time it wears off that knee should be strong enough where' the pain is reduced to a minimum. Sorry this is super long if there's anything you didn't understand or have questions about free to respond. 👍

Oh yes! As a therapist we treat these all the time and most will see some improvement but there are some that will not tolerate anything at all and require surgery. That’s only my two cents from 30 years of experience. I’m also a big advocate of prehab and patients usually do much better afterwards if they have been in therapy before. Thanks for the comment.

I then had another arthroscopic, a scrape and then I needed an ACL repair. 11 years on, I'm starting to suffer pretty badly with the knee in question. Like you, it will lock for days before it clicks and pops and it feels free again and minimal discomfort. It's done this for years but lately it's longer before it starts to click out. I've been in great discomfort for the last 3 weeks. I'm wearing sports tape or knee supports every day. I have to do knee exercises every day, no skipping them). My knee, as well as a torn shoulder and adductor muscle in my left thigh, is the absolute bane of my life. I'm seeing my physio again tomorrow. My Chiropractor doesn't help my knee. I have tried everything. I fear a knee replacement is on the cards in the, not so near, future! 😒 Sorry you're going through this too. My mother passed her bad knee to me. Magnesium keeps mine flexible but I've noticed my left bad knee is sticking out further than my good knee and it hurts real bad to try to straighten it out. My left side of my body has an issue I guess it's time to get busy looking for the cure before it's too late and I'm crippled and needing a knee replacement like my mother. Funny how it's usually just one knee like we have favored one side.

34 years ago l had 3 surgeries on my left knee and 2 surgeries on my right knee after I broke both knees simultaneously while playing basketball at the YMCA after a freakish injury after a sudden jump stop move proved too forceful for my knees as they both snapped instantly. My doctors had never heard of such an injury involving both knees while playing basketball.. This included a near fatal case of toxic shock syndrome when my left knee became infected while my wounds were healing. For the next 20 years I had knee pain and stiffness off and on. Then I decided to focus on changing my mindset as well as exercise and a healthy diet (losing 40 pounds in the process) and that was a game changer. Today at 55 years old I have virtually no knee pain or stiffness and I'm in the best shape of my adult life. Now I'm a wellness coach with the goal of helping others overcome their own similar challenges. Have you heard of a similar injury to the one l experienced? I'm very curious. Thank you

@kford6643 Hello brother, if your message is honest and real it gave us hope. You wrote that you have had knee pain for 20 years. I wonder from what age to what age? What was the pain like, in what situations did it occur? When going up or down stairs? Did it happen when you squat? Besides the pain, was there a crunching sound or a feeling of friction? Can you run or squat right now? What did you do for exercise?

This is absolutely terrifying for me. My left knee was just diagnosed with osteoarthritis. I'm 51 and very active. First real signs were a weakening of the knee where I simply couldn't squat anymore. That went on for about 6 months. After dancing at a concert a month ago, the inside area of my knee started flaring up with tender pain. I associated it with wearing less supportive shoes. I took a week off of work, did the whole RICE bit, didn't do a thing. So yeah, doctor time. Got my diagnosis and here I am. I'm wearing a knee brace, tried Tylenol Arthritis, which did nothing, but the brace keeps my knee straighter and allows me to work at least. All this possibly stems from a knee injury 25 years ago playing sports. It could be worse, I could have it in both knees, and it could be raining. I am playing with CBD and I THINK it allowed me to walk with full leg range of motion without pain. I'll know after more doses and days at work. I have 14 more years to work...

I have really wierd knee pain. Started in both knees at the same time. I do sit alot on front of my computer, and the pain/stiffness is allways worse when sitting. No pain when lying down, walking, running or jumping. Only sitting is my problem. Feels like a burning sensation inside/over/below both knees, and they feel stiff, makes a popping sound when I stretch them out. No visible svelling or heat. Using a knee support helps alot. Anyone have an idea what might be the problem? Been like this for 2 years now, and even weeks with no office time does not help.

I turned into a blimp over that next year and had to attend high school in a size 3 going from being underweight. It didn't look good on me and I carried it all in my upper body so I started to play sports or walk 10 miles or more a day. My body cramps if I don't walk but my knees cramp continuously and I'm now really overweight so not sure what to do. Don't want to cause more injury but can't just sit.

My legs are not bowed. My knee caps have not grown in size over the years. And I can bend my knee until my calf is flushed against the back of my thighs. I nearly got addicted to T3's. For pain relief but I quit cold turkey and switched to extra strength Tylenol. The withdrawals were sleepless nights and itching all over my body, it was difficult. But today 4 years later. I'm able to walk long distance and I'm only 53 years old. It still gets stiff if I sit too long until it loosens up then I'm fine. My life has changed souch and I am happy to have my titanium knees today. Pain management is doable.
