You need to try prolo shots and they rebuild the cartridge in the knee. I have been so lucky that they have these shots. I also do heat therapy just when I need it. I do exercise on the knees to. Hope you will tell your patients about this other alternative they can do.

I’m 74 and have been receiving knee injections in my left knee every 3-4 months for a couple of years now and they work for me. I’m not looking to run a marathon here I’m just interested in preserving my ability to perform daily tasks do home and yard maintenance and be able to walk a couple of miles without debilitating pain. I’ve already had bilateral total hip replacement and am in no hurry to replace any other joints. Knowing what you want and what to expect from these procedures is very important and you docs do a good job of explaining this. Keep up the good work.

Try this too… often the problem with the knee is lack of motion in the hip and ankle. If you can resolve these two contributors to knee problems you will improve knee function. Who provides this sort of mobility exercises? A physical Therapist. .

I have been diagnosed with a torn meniscus and arthritis in my knee. I chose to have PRP injections. I have had 3 PRP injections over the course of a year and a half. (Every 6 months). The results for me have been good. I am still able to play competitive pickleball 3 times a week with players 20 to 25 years my junior. I may eventually need a knee replacement, but for now I am mostly pain free. PS: I am 79 years old.

Hyaluronic acid is a life saver! Had many successful years with it, while physically active, on my feet all day.Then my health plan replaced it with cortisone. Do not ever let anyone inject cortisone in your knee, it disabled me. Had to retire and go on Medicare to get proper healthcare and some rehab. Knee and mobility are improved, but will never be the same.

I did knee injections for years, trying to put off TKR. I have arthritis so bad. It wasn't until I couldn't walk without a crutch that I finally gave in and had the new knee. Dr. said he was surprised how bad it was in there. Best thing I ever did. It's not totally ideal, but wow, no pain and I can walk again. Reminder! Do your therapy! Diligently! My surgeon didn't approve of PT and I had eventually ask and ask to go. I went late and I don't have the flexibility I think I could have had. But very grateful for my new knee!

I had hyaluronic injections once in 2016. It took about a month before it started feeling better, but then the positive effects seemed to last quite awhile, maybe a year. I had a cortisone shot in my elbow years ago and haven’t had a problem since. Had one in my left thumb for arthritis and it was so very painful - I had all I could do to keep it together till I left the room. The doctor kept asking if I was ok and I couldn’t respond due to pain. Couldn’t move my hand the rest of the day, it was 50% better for a few days and then it was the same. I’ll never do it again. Don’t know if surgery would help, but no more shots in that joint!

I had a PRP injection in April 2023. It worked but took a good 90 days to set in. I did the hyaluronic injection before and lasted maybe 6 months. I would agree the PRP was my best option even though (not mentioned in the video) is out of pocket. Mine cost was $1,100 but for the pain and mobility, it was worth it. It is now a going close to a year and I can now exercise… squats, go down stairs and ride my bike. My knee is not perfect and will let me know that the underlying condition OA is still there, but the improvement was worth the price. However, much what they said about losing weight and exercise to support your knee is what can make it a success. BTW I am 68 years old. Good luck!

Great topic. My husband had 2 cortisone shots one Spring/Summer and what happened is it made it possible for him to get up and walk again, which then led to a 30 lb weight loss which has made the biggest improvement overall. His knees no longer bother him day to day, but he does have to be careful with his range of motion and some activities *climbing the mast*. He's 78 btw. Hearing about Hyaluronic acid *specifically adding some cortisone* is definitely something we will bring up when he feels he needs help again. Thank you so much, once again!!

Thank you for this information. I'm 63, tore the meniscus in my left knee five months ago. While it's definitely better I do have osteoarthritis in both knees and my orthopedist told me injections can help and I have another appointment with him in a few weeks. I'll discuss with him the this video to see what he recommends. He did mention cortisone, hyaluronic acid and PRP. Now I feel like I have a much better understanding of them before seeing him.

I tore my ACL and meniscus on the job years ago and had surgery. I had one of the corticosteroid shots, I think, some time after the surgery. I had heard that they were painful!! My surgeon was so awesome, I didn't feel a thing!! All these years later, my knee isn't as bad as it could've been, thank goodness! Had two shots of something almost a year ago. Could barely walk, and could not stand. They say it takes time but as soon as they put that axle grease in there, I was able to move and stand for short periods of time they still hurt and the stuff is wearing off, but I can only thank you guys for making that stuff because although it hurts, I’m still able to move around. Two arthritic knees at 65 years. Was unable to play tennis and pickleball due to OA plus tendonitis. Tried the Glad physiotherapy before trying injections. I went from being able to walk 20 min without pain to over 1.5 hours. I walked 25,000 steps every day for a month and my pain was manageable. I don’t do the Glad exercises as frequently as I should, but I am able to do pickleball 2-3 times/ week now and hope to try tennis again in the spring. I no longer take NSAIDs. I also use recumbent bike for minimum 15 minutes 3-5 times week, it really helps! Really love your videos, keep them coming!

I am glad that I came across this video. I am currently recovering from a right hip replacement. Now I am having problems with my left knee. You can also talk about the stem cell or exosome injections that have been shown to reduce knee pain. It allows for a breathing space for the the thinning cartilage of the knee. There might be something more to discuss with your doctor on the next visit.

That one injection cured the problem. I was warned it will take time to work but I walked away from the doctors office pain free and the pain never came back. Knee is in good shape. Hey Docs, I live in St Louis, Missouri, USA. There is an orthopedic doctor here, that works mostly on shoulders. He uses a stem cell procedure with good success. He tells people his technique only seems to work on shoulders, and nothing else. I met one of his patients by accident. The old gentleman was very pleased with the outcome of stem cell injections for an arthritic shoulder. This was a very good video.

I was given a cortisone shot but no relief yet. The name of the gel is Diclofenac Sodium Topical Gel 1% and it has a dosing plastic card that shows the grams.

Now, the pain and my ability to walk easily and even stand after sitting, has increased significantly. Thanks, I need this information right now. Both knees between stages 2-3 but really angered the left one ten days ago, received cortisone shot one week ago with little affect thus far and meet surgeon in two days. Had left hip replacement some years ago which left my left leg longer instead of shorter as it had been forever. This changed my gait and has given me increasing problems in my right knee and hip. Received HA injection treatment last year after being diagnosed with osteoarthritis. I have fortunately never experienced excruciating pain , just aching under the knee cap. Initially thought it was patellar tendon irritation from cycling. My condition has not worsened after the injections and I still have the aches on occasion but as was mentioned by the doctors, it is for comfort and slowing of the condition. I turned 60 at the end of last year and continue to exercise by cycling and weight training . I am hoping to prolong the possibility of succumbing to knee replacement. Getting cortisone shots every 3 months worked well but has worn off now. Knees are shot. Have lost over 100 lbs and they still hurt like the devil. Bone on bone and osteoarthritis plus hereditary is against me. Doing therapy using a walker and being 55 was not in my plan. I wish I could least walk normal again. There are worse than I so I try not to complain. Living everyday as it comes. Love your videos.❤

Just like on the racetrack. Thoroughbred trainers, (the greedy ones) do the quick cheaper fix by repeatedly injecting joints with steroids. They get maybe a couple of races more but then the joint is kaput. There are better choices. Yes they are more money but you don't lose the animal. One of them is Legend the other Adequan. They are beneficial. Legend is Hyaluronic acid. Adequan is PSGAG.

Dr Debeers my retired knee specialist. He advised synvisc and it’s cost was not covered so I payed out of pocket $500 and I was warned it could last a few weeks or months so I tried it and my luck 2 months only. And two many cortisol shots could lead to bone issues. So honestly I can’t wait for knee replacement. But I Thank you for this info so I can educate myself and talk to my new specialist about other options. Cause surgery can’t be for a few more yrs as it’s not advised before 65.

I had stem cells injections done in my knees and shoulders in Mexico on January 8th. The improvement I have seen has been incredible. I biked 5 miles today and am walking up and down stairs with no pain. My shoulders have also improved dramatically. I had 50 million stem cells taken from an umbilical cord injected into each joint. I had MRI’s done prior to the injections. I am going to ask for a second set of MRI’s this fall. I will upload both sets of MRI’s if you would like to take a look at the before and after results.

Did not have hyaluronic acid injections, but did have the TKR and I’m fine. No pain. I had both hips injected with steroids and they last about 4 months and just waiting for the time it does not work any more. In the meantime I will continue with the injections until told I can’t do anymore. Till then, I will watch your informative videos and enjoy learning new therapies. Thank you Dr’s D, Z, W

about 15 years ago my physician diagnose with arthritis from neck to the tip of the toes. I needed both knees needed replaced I waited several years for the good will of a surgeon to do something . In the mean time I tried acupuncture which temporarily, massage, physio etc.most theses method temporarily helped. Finally I had several PTP injections the first one in the left knee about 8 years ago. 2nd in the right foot and last December in the right shoulder . in my case the PRP injections worked the pain is definitely gone and my mobility has improved so I would certainly recommend. I am 87 years old and live alone without any need for home care. Within my house I do not need any help but I walk outside with a cane. My only serious handicap is balance . also ne one sinvic injection in my left elbow also helped with the pain but the the articulation does not work as well. By the way the knee joint are working as well as knee replacement according to knee specialist I visited lately

So glad to find this channel and ALL the HELPFUL comments from patients. Today I called my osteo surgeon and cancelled my scheduled TKR! I had my surgery consult last week and got all the literature and scheduled appointments with PT, pre- and post surgery appts, lab appt, etc. It is too overwhelming for me. I live alone and although I have 2 grown adult kids who have their own families, I didn't want to impose on them for help, especially at the beginning of the recuperation period. I just don't think I can be home by myself for the first 2 weeks. I plan to have another series of 3 hyaluronic injections in a couple weeks, then PRP. Maybe I'll reschedule the TKR next year. One knee is bone on bone and the last hyaluronic injection was 6 months ago and did help. So maybe it'll be okay. The compression sleeve along with ice and ibuprofen are all helpful, although the bad knee sometimes wakes me up during the night throbbing.

I’m 75 years and had my right knee replaced. I have worked very hard to save my left knee from surgery. I do have some pain in my left knee from time to time but I checked not used conventional medicine. I used castor oils for my pain at home, outside I get cupping and or acupuncture done twice a month. Others lifestyle changes I make is keeping my intake of meals which I cooked cleaned no outside stuff. Also, I walked two to ten miles daily each week which made me feel much healthier.

Because of my history of post-surgical infection, I try to avoid surgery like the plague. TKR is not an option until I run out of other options.. My arthritis was causing so much pain and discomfort last year, I was having difficulty sleeping because I couldn’t get comfortable without my knee hurting. I received my first shot of Synvisc in August, and my second injection two days ago. So far, so good. My knee isn’t “like new” and I still have to be careful to avoid stressing the knee too much, but the pain has significantly reduced, and sleeping is now not a problem.

Unfortunately I have had a cortisone injection that didn’t do a thing, then I tried gel injection which also didn’t do anything. I have even tried radio frequency ablation. None of those treatments worked at all so now I have to go in for a revision total knee replacement on July 3rd. I had partial knee replacements done over ten years ago but one of them is worn out so now the last resort is a total knee revision on my knee. I have literally been through the ringer as far as my knees go. I’m really hoping that the total replacement will help a lot with my constant pain I’m in all day every day. I have had cortisone injections in one of my knees every 8-9 months for the last 9 years, and this kept the atrocious pain at bay - until last year. The last 2 injections had no effect whatsoever, so my run of good luck is over. There was no gradual lack of relief, it just stopped working suddenly. I recently had open heart surgery and cannot take anti inflammatories anymore. My osteoarthritis is so bad that my bones are deformed, and I am scheduled to have a knee replacement in a few months as soon as my heart is strong enough. I was very lucky to be able to get complete relief for the last 9 years, but now it’s time for the operation as the pain is almost unbearable most of the time and I can’t stand for more than a few minutes. Regular pain medication barely dies anything. My “good” knee is also starting to hurt, as well as my hip, because I can’t walk properly and that is the most worrying as I don’t want to have to replace the other knee down the track

This was very helpful. I have had cortisone in both knees and HA in both knees. My right knee is bone on bone and after the initial HA therapy I did not see a great improvement until I did the Cortizone injection 3 months after completing the last HA injection. I’m not completely pain-free, but I’m at a livable place on the right knee. The left knee is still in a lot of pain and continues building a lot of fluid. I just completed final HA series. I’m about to do PRP injections in conjunction with Prolozone in both knees. Good info on the data of Cortizone with HA and also the Hope of the HA injections promoting the production of HA naturally. Also appreciate the info and support for PRP and the Hope of it working well with other injections. I’m only 57 so I’m trying to hold off on surgery as long as possible. Great information! I’ve had osteoarthritis for about 10 years (now 74) and I have had the occasional knee pain but recently after a family outing where the terrain was very slopey my right knee got very painfully irritated. It’s now been over 3 weeks and I cannot walk without the assistance of a walker or wheelchair. I got to see an orthopedic dr this week and pretty much the first thing he said was I needed to have a knee replacement! I told him no as I have heard that it is a painful procedure. I had to ask him if I could get a cortisone shot but he was very pessimistic about it helping me! I will be looking for another doctor. Thank you for the other 2 options besides cortisone shots as I want to do everything I can before even contemplating surgery.

15 years ago one of the orthopedic surgeons, told me I was going to need a knee replaced soon. I was in my 50's. I did some research and changed doctors. My new surgeon/ doctor told me about hydralonic acid injections after he cleaned by out some torn meniscus. Over the years, I've had about 4-5 sets of injections to both knees. I find they last me 12-20 months before I need them again. They work great for me, I exercise, do plates and yoga, and sometimes I try running for about 1-2 minutes. I do have pain from time to time, but with otc treatments, braces and ointments, and rest . I'm usually back to my old self in about a week. Oh, I'm 70's and refuse to have surgery, yet!!

Started with cortisone injections in my thumb but then my knee got worse and I began injections in my left knee every 2-3 months. Somewhere around 1+ years ago, I displayed claudication on moderate exertion. That became the symptom that moved to the forefront for treatment. Arthritis was closing the passage for my nerves at L4-5, and I would have longterm, permanent damage if this problem was not resolved. Scheduled surgery and had laminectomy, spinal fusion and a spacer placed and then began recovery. My back healed, but was causing me pain. I resumed my cortisone injections in my knee but was getting frustrated with the lack of progress in my back. I figured that the two were related, the unsound knee was exacerbating the lack of progress in my back. Last month I had TKR and so far, along with PT, my back pain is easing and I feel like my recovery is back on track. So far, my thumb is behaving and is allowing me to focus on healing my back and knee.

But I did not eat chicken for 6 months after thinking it was from the comb. If you Google reactions from synvisc , if you are going to have a reaction it’s not after the first injection

I am a old active cyclist and my knee was killing me. Tried rest and such but still could not ride without considerable pain. So had a steroidal injection since the CMS protocol requires it for Medicare coverage as the 1st try. It lasted 3 month and the pain started returning with a vengeance, much worse than before the injection as the pain was merely masked. Subsequently got a hyaluronic acid gel injection, step 2 before a knee replacement and I'm riding back at my former pace with no pain for a year now. The Ortho clinic lost a quarterly patient followed by a knee replacement. Highly recommend them for their honesty. I am thinking that my knee has actually healed.

Hey Doctor's I had MRSA in my knee replacement after 5 years they did a clean out, I was on injections (antibiotics) for 6 weeks and still on antibiotic pills, my knee was doing good but now it's swollen. I am in a wheelchair so I don't get much leg movement. I broke my thigh bone and that's the reason I had a knee replacement. The doctor tied my thigh bone in a piece he added to the metal of the knee. The DR. and staff don't act to concerned but I am, I kicked the shit out of my spinal cord injury, then I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer and it took everything I was made and more to overcome Radiation to my face and chemo. I have fought more battles than any human should have to and I had to beat a new path because I couldn't take the path of other survivors. My journey through life is a novel and I don't want to die at 60. My knee is swollen and ice doesn't have much effect. Do I need to see the DR. Now and force my will or should I see another Dr. That probably won't want to deal with the metal that's tied to thigh bone. Please help I hope you see this Thank you Dean

I've had both cortisone and HA injections. Both work for me, but the HA injections last much longer. My initial series of injections lasted me almost 2 years. I've heard this is well above average, and I don't want to give the impression that it always works, but I am so grateful. I recommend trying it if you're tired of the more frequent cortosone shots. I'm 67 years old and have been getting cortisone shots in both my knees for years starting in 2009. Then in 2018 I received hyaluronic injections in both knees and on the third course my right knee swelled up, I got a fever and felt unwell. I contacted the doctor who did the injection, and I was told to go to the emergency room. There they drained fluid out of the knee and a surgeon opened up my knee to clean the medicine out. The fluid was tested to see if I had sepsis. I spent 5 days in the hospital because it took that long to test the fluid. Then when they sent me home, I was on a pic-line (with antibiotics) for 3 months. It was determined either I had a reaction to the third injection or the doctor who administered it caused it by pulling the needle out and then putting it back in my knee. (She came to the hospital to visit me with a get-well card, a box of chocolates and an apple). The hyaluronic injection in my other knee did nothing to help, I went back to getting cortisone shots and now I'm to the point where they do nothing. Now after getting a stress fracture because I'm bone on bone it's time for a replacement.

I live in Alberta and had a partial knee replacement in 2011 had that removed and had a FULL replacement in 2012(at the age of 40) Yes I know I " was young" but I was SO bone on bone I was knock kneed and my quality of life SUCKED. July of 2022 I hAd my liner replaced. I would not change anything for the world!! Yes, I had to give up my sports in order to preserve the longevity of my replacement, but I had my quality of life and could actually go for walks with my sons... fast forward... at 50, I can now keep up with grandsons!! Life is great!

I have had PRP and corticosteroid shots in my right knee. For me the corticosteroid worked the best, short term. I wound up having the patella replacement and solved 75% on the right knee issue. It also helped with managing my lower back problems. I went from seeing the chiropractor 2 to 4 times a month to now i haven't been to see my chiropractor for about a year. I couldn't be happier. I still have to be careful but i can manage it on my own.

Was suggested by my ortho that hyloronic acid injection will last much longer and so I agreed to the tune of 500.00!!! It lasted a few short months!! NOTE : throughout all of these injections I was walking between 20-30 blocks a day as well as doing physio therapy. Honestly, the exercises and figuring out what foods were causing me inflammation and taking tylenol have helped more than injections

I had stem cell followed by PRP 2 months later. My knee is at category 3 for OA as a result of an ACL/meniscus injury/reconstruction. My knee still swells & can be painful. However, the recovery (pain reduction & inflammation reduction) is much quicker than pre-procedure. Yes, I realize this is anecdotal and possibly some placebo effect, but that still doesn’t diminish the fact that my knee is not as problematic. I’m 2.5 years out from the procedure. Who knows how long I’ll feel this way. I’m 63 and a retired LEO. The injury was a result of my work.
