I went with the POD K4. Videos like yours convinced me to spend the money up front. It seems to me that a strap could be attached like on the asterisk in order to prevent that twisting pretty easily.

Pants are cheaper than my knee -priceless 🤣 Would love to see a follow up vid/update on how they are working out. Great reviews on all 3 braces mate..Iv'e never heard of the DONJOY but that's probably due to it being a "knee brace" as opposed to a full on sports knee brace..Personally..I'm going to go with the POD K4 at this stage as you can order spare parts and rebuild the whole brace if you need to and they too have some excellent reviews..The pods are also Australian, just like me ,so i thought I'd support the local talent..In saying that though the sales guy at my local MX store swears by the Asterisk Ultra Cell 2.0 , said he wears them and wouldn't wear anything else..so you've made a very good decision.. Donjoy is the most popular knee brace here in the states. Not for moto but for all the other “regular” sports. Basically required equipment for NFL/college football linemen. They don’t really sponsor moto though so it’s not a common choice. I run them currently but they are a bit bulky in the calf area where the boot straps so I’m going to go a different direction next time most likely pod.

@Brian McGinity yeah they did some promotions with Brett Metcalf back in the day also but still it’s not as common as the other brands. The defiance is what I have too. But the problem is that they weren’t designed for moto specifically so the area on the inside of the knee and behind the calf are too bulky. I’m still running mine but they could definitely be improved.

@brianmcginity7663 you still liking them? I'm 2.5 months out from a full knee reconstruction from a crash while wearing Mobius X8 braces. What type of guard do you wear with the Don joys to protect the front of the knee and such, since the DJ has zero frontal impact protection like my Mobius.

@@JoshStreetDesign 100% I like them. For knee and shin protection, I use the "Impact Guard Knee And Shin Protector"--google it to see a photo. DonJoy had the patient with a brace behind the calf and is the only one to do it. Also they are the only the have clinical studies.

Great review, thanks for posting this. My wife severed her ACL and tore her MCL. Long road to recovery for her, you are a lot younger than us 😜. She initially went with the Donjoy but we are thinking it doesn’t have enough protection for riding.

For everyday use and general sporting activities, Id suggest the Donjoy A22. I still use it to this day and love it. I would highly recommend the Asterisk for riding though.

Two things brother and they are just suggestions, if you haven't done alot of research on that tether , you might want to see what other riders are saying about screwing your boots to your knee brace. I wouldn't do it. Second if you ride hard enduro or track ride I would upgrade your boots from those tech 5s.

Getting surgery soon. Same damage.. MCL, ACL, PCL. Just a trail rider and hill climber. Are you still recommending these Asterisk braces?

Yep. I’m still using the pair in the video 3-4 years later. I sure have tested them too. Still recommend these asterisks for sure.

i have a custom set of Donjoy defiance braces. they are good braces but the only setback with wearing them for riding is that the back of the brace around the calf is really bulky and has a hard time fitting in the boot

yeah the top is the same length but the bottom portion is shorter and stops above the boot. That's the Defiance version.

How is the patella protection on the Asterisk braces? I'm currently using POD K4, but I'm not impressed with the knee guard portion of it. It's very minimalistic and doesn't use anything like d3o padding. I have had 2 fairly low speed impacts directly to my patella. Once against the handlebar and once against the ground when my bike spun out on some slippery cement. Both times the patella got banged up pretty bad and I wouldn't trust those pads in a higher speed/impact crash. The frame of the brace is sturdy and fits me well, but the padding is a letdown.

Mobius are also certified med devices. You mentioned that you checked out the CTIs, did you try the Mobius X8s?

Hey Chuck, I checked out the Mobius first but wrote them off because of the heat they generate. Im in Florida and a lot of riders down here say they don't breathe well. When I tried them, I could immediately see how they would hold in heat and sweat.

I crashed back in March with the Mobius and literally tore EVERYTHING inside my knee. They probably weren't tight enough, but still, don't think it would have mattered, nor would any of the front type braces. Maybe the only one that would have saved me would have been the DonJoy with the over under design. Who knows.

Did the doctors recommend braces for riding even if you did not have knee problems

I don’t know what his doctors said. It depends on what your doctor’s experience and training are. An orthopedist with experience with motocross riders will probably tell you yes.

What is the difference between 2.0 and the 3.0? Is the 3.0 better?

I haven't tried the 3.0 yet. From what I can see, the calf and thigh adjustments are different. I like the 2.0 currently.
