Excellent video! Thank you for making it, it was exactly what I needed and abated all the questions that I had. and was so glad it came from someone who had the surgery & not the surgeon. it really helped to see & hear what was going on in your knee and what your expectations were. thank you!

Best thing you can do after a scope is to stay off it! Elevate and ice your knee. Swelling is normal as they use fluid to inflate the knee and it takes quite awhile for the fluid to be consumed by your body. My last one took nearly 2 months before all of the fluid was gone. I highly recommend using crutches for the first 2-3 days. The more you're on it the more swollen it will get. Lastly, sleeping on a couch for the first few nights will help as well. A couch will keep you from rolling around.

I had this surgery preformed on me earlier this year and I had a very different recovery experience than you did. I was able to walk literally 1 hour after the surgery and the only struggle I had was it was a little bit sore on day 2. Im sorry that the recovery didn't go as well as planned for you. I know what it feels like to have a swollen and painful knee. Thanks for making this video man!

Wow thanks so much for doing this video. I had scope knee surgery 8 days ago for a torn meniscus and clean up of damage from a previous injury. I watched your video to see if I was on track and we are almost identical in our recovery. The only difference is that I was in PT the day after surgery AND my Doctor and PT gal seem to have a difference in opinion on how hard and fast I work my knee. Based on that, I won't give anyone any advice except to follow your Dr.'s instructions and if you are told to move that knee MOVE IT!!! Oh yeah and take your pain meds, ice, and elevate. It helps a lot. Thanks again for doing such a great video. I would love to know how you are doing now Jason. Peace out!

Your are awesome! I'm glad you did this. The community will appreciate your contribution. The pain killers are needed. The doctor gave you a sense of false hope by telling you that you would be driving in 2-3 days. Really... come on... Is there anyone who expects to be driving 2-3 days post op from a knee surgery? No. You were expecting to be better much sooner. The swelling is a response to surgery, trauma, repair. I swear I think I'm watching a weirdly written version of Misery, where you are James Caan and your surgeon was Kathy Bates. I was hoping to see you beyond day 7 as it takes longer to recover, but you left us positive. Again... thank you!!!!! So... how is your knee now. And how are your caregivers. Somehow I think the women caring for you were like... "Really...???" Please consider adding to this video and reposting an update. God bless you dear patient.

I had this procedure done 2 days ago and I can honestly say that this is hell. Much more pain than I expected and I still can't bear any weight on it. The Dr didn't say anything about when to remove the bandage. Nothing in my release paperwork either. It's now Sat 540am so no way to contact him until Monday. Any suggestions? I'll check back later . Thanks for the video...at least I'm not as scared now after seeing your progress was slow as well.

Thanks for describing your experience it’s always helpful to hear what others go through. Three days ago I had my 7th knee scope done. Each experience has been a little different. In my opinion the pace and pattern of recovery depends a lot on what was done inside the knee during the scope. I am surprised they had you walk out without crutches. I have never done that, it seems risky A knee is fragile after any injury to it including surgery.

I'm on day 6 following arthroscopic mesicectomy. I wish I had seen your video before. The reality is that the freezing is extremely missleading!!! You are able to walk and bend your knee with very little discomfort for the first 24 hours. But when the freezing wears off ..... Look out for this unexpected pain, swelling and stiffness. Not properly explained by the surgeon at all. Then you start to worry that something is wrong or that you damaged your knee overdoing it during the first 24 hrs. Thanks for your video.

how'd it go? what did you get?
@weewee19488 жыл бұрын
+jonasvm88, I had severe arthritis, 2 meniscus tears and a bone fragment fused to my tibia. Recovery was rough due to the severity of he arthritis, swelling, chronic pain and stiffness,therapy helped a bit, but of course my insurance has ceased paying for therapy and still no real relief. My surgeon says I'll need a knee replacement. Started a 3 week treatment today to which supposedly lasts 6 months, which pushes the knee replacement a little farther out. Hoping this treatment helps! Thanks for inquiring.

I'm looking at needing this myself. I nursed husband through acl reconstruction with hamstring graft, waaaaay worse than this. But it taught me some recommendations for any knee joint surgery- 1. Ice, ice, ice, ice, ice, ice, ice. If your insurance covers an ice machine or a friend has one then frozen waterbottles are easier than ice-making to fill it. 2. Compression thigh high stockings to help reduce the edema and prevent clots. Life savers. 3. Shower chair even for the young, super cheap on Amazon 4. Keep a good attitude Hope you're well!!

First of all you probably should have called the doc. When you saw the swelling. I had this surgery Feb. 12. Crutches for partial weight bearing, for about a week, then only one for support. Elevation, ice, pain med, which pain was never really bad. I am 69, fell at a summer camp where I was the nurse..lol. starting second week Light physical therapy, progressing now a month later. Still elevating when I can. Just still pretty tight with small amount of fluid, which he decided not to drain yet. Getting better. I dont get why some drs, are so adamant about no crutches. They help alot and what difference does it make if it slows mobility for a couple of weeks. ?? Thanks for your video, and I hope you have healed well.

Hey there. About how much pain were you in before you had the surgery on a scale of 1 to 10? For example, could you walk without pain? Straighten your leg completely? Etc? I'm asking, because I'm slated for this same surgery next week, and though my injury was pretty bad initially (I couldn't walk for weeks), it has vastly improved over the last several weeks. I have no pain at all. I can straighten it fully, walk extensively, swim 4 days a week and exercise it with tension bands. Let me know when you have some time. And good luck with your own recovery. It's awful that they recommended this surgery when it wasn't completely necessary.

Had my acl repaired at 25, this last year November. Actually turned 26 in this process, couldn’t get my leg straight even 12 weeks after the surgery and 10 weeks of therapy. Just had another surgery 7 days ago. There was a chunk of scar tissue in the knee joint stopping the two from coming together. That was a week ago, and I tell ya what. It’s the best it’s been. Almost full flex back, no pain. The ACL compared to this lady of a surgery, is a Watermelon(ACL) compared to a grape(current surgery). Sucks though been off work for almost 4 months now( 12th of March).. Going good though, no meds just elevation and ice. Walking normal.

I had plica removal surgery on my knee in June 2016. I used crutches for a few days (most doctors want you to walk after surgery w this procedure because it's minor or weight bare) the first day I weight bared for not much, but the second, third day, and so on (used crutches for about 5-6 weight bearing) my doctor wasn't to happy about it but I was taking it slow. Did physical therapy three weeks after surgery. Told me while they were in surgery I had an abnormally large meniscus, if it bothers eventually it may tear (more susceptible to tear) or get it shaved. Here I am five and a half months after surgery good but now I think my meniscus is the pain it's been on n off since surgery but I was trying to avoid it if surgery is a must I definitely recommend ICE ALL DAY FOR A FEW DAYS!!!! That's exactly what I did they gave me a special brace w a attachment gel ice pack and I left it on for 5 days straight non stop constant ice, definitely helps w pain and swelling I recommend straight ice for a few days it's worth it!!!

I had a complex lateral tear / partial menisectomy 4 weeks ago today. I hobbled out of the day surgery unit on crutches and used them very little in the first few days. I wasn't allowed to drive for two weeks but was into a rehab protocol after ten days and able to squat fully after fourteen. Today, four weeks later I have full range of movement, zero pain and this morning I was able to squat in the gym albeit only with an empty Olympic bar with no pain or discomfort. The surgery looks brutal and whilst its different for everyone you shouldn't fear this, the prognosis is excellent in the majority of cases. Aggressive rehab is key though, with a qualified physio who really understands knees!

I took my bandage off on day 2 and took a shower. I had swelling in the knee and kept ice on it every couple of hours. On Monday 12/31/2018 I drove to work and used the cane I got the day after surgery. I stopped using the cane by the next day (Tuesday). Today is one week after surgery and the swelling is mostly gone, but still painful to walk (advil) works for the pain. I see the Dr. next Friday. It's not all bad for everyone.

I had mine done recently also 12/20/2018, a right lateral partial meniscectomy. It's interesting to keep tabs on other people's surgery to see how their recovery went. I had my done around 7pm at night and because it was late I stayed overnight at the hospital. The pain was pretty intense the first night even though they had me on codeine and anti-inflammatorys. It felt like a bomb had gone off in my knee but on the opposite side of the meniscus injury which was super odd. I was considering going home after the procedure but was glad I stayed because after the anaesthesia wore off, about 4-5 hours after surgery, it was super painful and made sleeping pretty difficult. Then pretty strangely after about 12 hours most of the pain started gradually going away. I used crutches for the first day but got off them pretty quickly and managed to get around normal albeit limping. 2 days bandages off and kept the gauze on for a week. No real pain after that just a little bit of swelling when I was walking on it too much. Started driving by week 2 (driving a manual/stick doesn't help lol). It's coming up to week 3 now and I'm slowly introducing jogging and already walk about 4-5 miles a day with my dogs so things are pretty good. I was pretty anxious about it just because there are a few videos of people that have a tough experience with the surgery afterward but I'd say for me everything went pretty smoothly. I just can't wait to get back to being able to fully run and lift weights which I expect will be in just a couple more weeks. Hope your pain is receding a bit more, I found by week 2 (14 days) I was walking pretty much pain free even going upstairs and walking up hill.

Thanks for posting this video. Very informative. What was the reason you got the scope? Now months later, are you back to running? I am considering getting my knee scoped. My knee swells with any type of activity, it could be as little as walking across a parking lot. Too much running initially caused this. MRI images do not show anything of real substance, just a bit if IT band swelling. Was the knee scope worthwhile in the long run? Is the knee problem "fixed"? Thank you.

I did both knees all in shot. one and done. walked out of surgery center. the best way I could describe it would be when you do an insane leg workout and the 1st day you feel good and pumped. it's the 2nd and 3rd day that kill you. lethargic. bruising and swelling was on my right which was my worst. I had it on the 15th of July and swelling was gone since last week. the bruising is just about gone. sleeping at night was wack. best way i could describe it, like having a constant Indian burn on your thigh without moving. But yeah totally sucked for a 3rd thru 5th day that's for sure. I'm 33 and turns out I have stage 3-4 chondromalacia! boooooooooo ! soO young and Dr was like I forgot who you were for a second when I review you chart and then came in and saw a young person at my post Op appt. How's your leg feelin now?

My doctor is going to schedule me for this as I have loose bodies in the back of my knee which are getting stuck making my knee lock up. Because my job involves average of 10-17000 steps a day and involves getting in and out of vehicles I'm looking at a 3 week recovery... minimum. Not thrilled but it's a necessary evil so I can walk without it locking up on me. As to my knee cap I'm looking at a total knee replacement a soon as 6-11 years down the road as my knee cap is literally bone on bone.

I had the same surgery 6 weeks ago, they don't tell you about the leg cramps or to take ibuprofen to help inflammation. Mine is still swollen and hurts constantly. I'm doing 2 sets of exercises and 2 days in physical therapy, they try and kill you it is so painful. I would never do this again, I'd just put up with the hobbling

@dmullz1007 жыл бұрын
Hey man, can I ask you why you needed surgery? Myself I banged up my knee from a snowboard rail and I've noticed my knee hasnt been the same since. There is an off balance to me for about 2 years just like yourself. Is a anthroscopic surgery meaning they scope jelly from the knee from the built up water fluid?
@jasonknievel19697 жыл бұрын
Hey....it's a long story. I've always been athletic, and abused my knees. Also....it's genetically a bad joint. It turns out my bad knee is from a rare type of arthritis. The surgery wasn't even needed and was misdiagnosed by the doctor. I had no positive outcome from the surgery. It was a waste of time and a huge financial burden. It was not necessary. Explore all options before accepting surgery As an option.
@dmullz1007 жыл бұрын
Jason Knievel ohokay I get it. cause atm I haven't seen my doctor in over to years and I now notice my knee still having pain and an off balance in my body. Plus, I'm in school to become an arborist so I need to be in top form. I'll check out the doctor what he says (I live in canada tho) so surgery would be free but I'll need to wait for a while before it happens. but you're right about surgery being the last option.

Its almost been a year after my surgery now. My knee is still swollen. I knew a couple days after the surgery it wasn't healing properly. I went to another specialist and I have a rare type of arthritis that is causing the swelling. It turns out I didn't need the surgery AT ALL!! Even though several doctors recommended I get the surgery. I am now fighting the arthritis, and trying not to dwell on the fact I took 6 weeks off work and possibly did further damage to my knee by having the surgery. Look into all options before having the operation!
@TekHasAJuiceyAss9 жыл бұрын
Jason Knievel that's awful! I'm only on day 3 and to read that is horrifying! I was misdiagnosed almost 2 years ago as having a simple knee fracture. I wasn't healing at all. Long story short new Dr gave me a MRI said I had a torn meniscus and embedded bone fragments. I'm hurting but feel that it's getting better each day. Before surgery I went to a specialist to see if it was arthritis or post traumatic arthritis, it wasn't. I'm hoping this will fix my knee. Hope you're feeling better.

+Kim C, I was told that I to have a bone fragment, alone with a torn meniscus and arthritis. Upcoming surgery, and praying it fixes all.

+MsC My surgery was successful in that all the fragments were removed and the whole knee was cleaned up. The recovery was really great after the first few days. I don't have that awful pain in my knee & it no longer buckles. I still have issues with my knee but the surgery itself was successful! Good luck, you'll do great too!
