This was difficult to watch. That owl was definitely on a mission. However, as it is in nature, the strong survive. E03 is a strong little eaglet who is unfortunately learning how difficult life is at such a young age. Props to Anna and Louis for raising such a strong wonderful eaglet.

The eaglet is doing fine. She was most likely a little sore the day after the attacks and was a bit subdued. This morning, over 24 hours later, she's back to being very active, biting Louis' toes when he comes to the nest, and wingercising with much more gusto. :)

We do not know where they were perched last night. I am hoping at least one stays in the nest tree tonight.

Oh my goodness Tonya. O3's peals while being attacked. So thankful O3 was not knocked off the nest. So awesome to see how strong O3 is. Her defensive stance was near perfect. Did Louis or Anna ever come back an perch on their branches? Is the GHO's nest in the next tree over? 🦅🦅🦉

E1-O3 did very well through this ordeal, I am highly impressed! I just wish she had not been tested like this just yet. Anna did come in at 9:38 this morning. I've never seen a GHOW on this cam ever so I have no idea where their nest is. The owl was perching in trees on either side of the nest then making another pass. I really hope this does not become a nightly occurrence! If it does, I'm afraid that once she fledges she won't be returning.

Where's Dad and Mom? If they were humans, they'd be arrested for child neglect...and rightfully so.
@tonya_in_n.o. Жыл бұрын
Well, luckily for them they are NOT humans, they are raptors and are entirely different than humans. As for where they were, only they know. But, things you should know before condemning them like you did: bald eagle vision at night is comparable to humans which means when the moon phase is a waning crescent that provides very little light and there are NO other light sources around since this is a forest they cannot see very well to fly. The lights that we see on the various cams is NOT an actual light source, we only see it because the camera can pick up the IR light. If you were out there, you would not see the light, therefore the eagles do not see it either. This is not on a busy street like SWFL where there are lights from the church, streetlights on Bayshore Rd, lights from the vehicles on that road, a Publix grocery store across the street, etc. Imagine walking through a dense forest after the sun has set with total cloud cover and no flashlight, how well will you be able to see? Well enough to fly and not chance smacking a tree and breaking a wing - which in a forest means you're going to die? You'd die if you broke your wing because there are many other animals in that forest looking for food and you wouldn't be able to fly well enough to get away from them, you wouldn't be able to fly well enough to hunt or fish to feed yourself, and if you died, who would take care of your offspring that was 69 days old and is capable of flight but just doesn't know it yet?

@@lindaadelwerth8042 Thanks Linda! Someone has to defend Louis and Anna and all of the other raptor parents out there that are humanized so often!...and hopefully educate them on raptors and some of the reasons they do what they do, or don't do. 😁

Eagles have the same vision as we do at night. Waning crescent 🌘 moon that night means very little moonlight. The nest is in a forest with nothing around to provide lighting.
