This morning, my Spyderco Native 5 Lightweight in S110V arrived. I was part of the Massdrop Blue Box Native 5 purchase, where we paid for the base model and had a chance of an upgrade. What was listed as S35VN turned out to be S30V as the base model. I think Spyderco announced they were going to S30V, which inspired most of us to jump at the S35VN drop. I think I was already to send in a complaint, but I was one of the lucky ones with the upgrade, so no complaints. Normally, I am the one left with less than others; now, I have no complaints.

Nice review! I have the lightweight Manic in s110v and love it. I just ordered the Orange s90v Cutlery Shoppe Native 5 exclusive. Should ship in a week or so. Nice to add one back to my collection.

I want one. I have a Delica and love it. I was also wondering about the grip material but people seem to like it and now I know why. It's really perfect if you are actually carrying and using the knife. So this will most likely be my next one. Good video.

You will not be disappointed with this knife! Seriously it's super strong with perfect ergos, and very lightweight. You will never carry the Delica again! Vastly superior.

Spyderco's FRN & FRCP handles are not the same in feel, appearance or execution among their lightweight offerings. Quite noticeably "higher end" in my collection: the original Stretch folder (ZDP-189) and the Native 5 Salt; a bit behind those is the Stretch 2... somewhat 'rougher' and bringing up the rear, the Manix 2 LW and Endura 4 (V-Toku2). The pre-Salt Native 5s seem to fall approximately in the middle ground, finish-wise; and a bit lesser than that with respect to the texture of the 'volcano grip' figurings. I write as a strong fan of the lightweights. FYI.

Personally I like the screws on the presentation side. Gives some color highlights to breakup the FRN that matches the their components and blade.

I bought the s30v native 5 lw and then a S110v lw and s110v para 3

S35VN steel on the standard model. I love the G10 versions, regardless of the extra weight. Would love to get my hands on a CF model, for the right price.

You're right, it is S35VN on the regular model, my bad. I will put a note in the video. Love the look of the CF model without the billboarding on the blade.

As someone later mentioned here, they did however move to S30. I've seen both metals mentioned on store sites.

@ Dave Deckert... Yes, that is a fairly recent change, for the benefit of the manufacturer... but for the worse in terms of the overall balance of characteristics in use for the *consumer* . I will be holding onto my S35VN Native 5 for that reason, though it is now mostly superceded for EDC by my better executed Native 5 Salt in rugged LC200N.

There are no phosphor bronze washers in the lightweight models, just a raised section of the FRN scales against the blade steel.

base model is s35vn, which I think I like better than s110v...

You are correct. S35 is easier to sharpen, but S110V just never gets dull...

S110v is awesome. Had the manix lw for 3 years and it has been my main edc. Still plenty sharp after 3 years of use.

benn carrying this knife for 1 year now and half the time i dont know its there blde as tendancie to chip!! happen 2 full regrind everytime

al dal the S110V is a hard steel. Mine never chipped. Just got the new one in Maxamet! Go check out that video!

mine chip cause i hit a screw on top off my work bench.its a great knife just little chippy is still one off the best knife i own and i own a lot...i will go see your new vid...

al dal you banged a several micron thin strip of metal in to another piece of metal. what did you expect would happen?

no your definetly right , but other metal composition would of nick it not chip ,but the screw add bigger damage..lol..
