I had a SpydieChef a number of years ago and got one again to give it a go again....and will probably sell it...again. Ultimately I think the SpydiChef just has too much belly for me and though proposed as a culinary tool, while I think it would work just fine, I still appreciate slightly straighter blade to handle alignments. Perhaps the Drunken would be a good choice...but alas, I have so many knives and the fact that I spend most of my days making chef knives, I almost never even carry a knife anymore, but do enjoy Spyderco as the hole opener is my favorite and have been collecting once again for fun....so checking some reviews. I think the Kapara is a Magnificent design and probably outshines either of these knife in actual practical use.....just my idea. I may do a review on the Kapara vs. the SpydieChef.....but I am sure it's been done already. Anyhow, thanks for the post.....I get around to checking these knives SO Long after they came out;)

JD Vandeventer is very good designer, I have one old model of Boker which is friction folder and it's made by him.Unique knife who looks almost the same like the gold mini you present.

I still have a big dog, I absolutely beat it though, M1614T, broken tip, and chipped serrated teeth. Used it ranching for a year 10 years ago. I keep it in my car for emergency use now.

Any knife is and could be an everyday carry. Just depends on taste. EDC doesn’t mean “small” and “tiny” is better. But yea… 5 years for me to decide to purchase a Native 5 CF S90V because of the Lock back… however i like Lock backs over frame and liner locks

Well reviewed. More versions out now five years later but this is the "grail" Spyderco to me. I love a back-lock, maybe because, vintage.

Damn. I’m just about to pull the trigger on a large Inkosi with Natural Micarta inlays. S45vn steel. It’s $540… I got $200 in store credit, so it’s calling me. Great review. I still don’t know if I can spend this much for a knife?!?!! Should I do it?!?!? 😂

i hear ya, the lanyard tube is such a horrible design decision, but honestly all you have to do is put on an aftermarket deep carry pocket clip, and all your problems would be solved. i personally appreciate the length of the handle, giving this 3" tiny knife solid secured grip. i think the handle being "too long" is actually a feature not a flaw, considering nearly all 3" knives on the market come with short and skinny handles only allowing for 3 finger grip, which makes the knife less controllable.

I got a 0393 a couple of days ago, and I found out about that noise today and it was driving me crazy, so knowing that someone else has it and noticed it too made me feel a little bit less anal about it.

Bought it when it first came out for 245 bucks and sadly sold it months later. 07/13/24, bought another because I realized I made a mistake by selling my first one. As of this date the current selling price is around 320 bucks in my area.

Taking the screw out of the lockbar insert when the knife is open & there is nothing preventing the insert from falling out or shifting itself out of alignment was the first mistake. Do it when the knife is closed, the blade is pushing against the insert & the detent ball is seated in the detent hole on the blade.

love these knives, both engraved (that's more personal pref of course - I don't like all the designs) but that Plague Doctor got me - and I wanted to commemorate what a shit show that time of our life was. I'm glad the newer versions having matching pivots on both sides now. My only 2 gripes are the same ones that every one has - no Choil, and the cut out for the lock bar is a friggin canyon, but aside from that - whooeee. amazing. I just got mine for $395 - stonewashed blue ano... the damascus on an engraved knife just looks too busy to me. either blade or scales need to be clean... NOT both. knife vomit.

I was going to leave a partly negative comment about the MP-1, but now, much less so. I had thought the thumb studs didn’t work, on my knife at least, but I now find that it is sensitive to lock bar pressure. That’s still not good, but is better than the thumb studs not working. The indent seems to be strong but reliable. Now the thumb studs work great! They DO take quite a bit of pressure to fire, but they do fire, repeatably. I am unable to do a reverse flick, but the flipper works well. Neither deployment method is terrific, exactly, but both work respectably well. I like everything else about the knife, in particular its blade shape and steel, and the way it fits my hand. All told, I like this knife. It’s not perfect, but for the time being at least, it’s a keeper!

Ah man I’m gonna have to study that tip transition because it looks like two knives on top of another and it geometrically doesn’t make any sense. Maybe that’s the point but to a machinist like Todd there’s gotta be a reason
