Great Video. The Sensei is moving more than the students to escape from attack. This is essential.

This is a very valuable and inspiring educational video. If any Aikido master tried this, most of them would not have been able to succeed. Shirakawa sensei is always studying and evolving. His reflexes and the movements of his body as he handles the knife are amazing. I respect him from the bottom of my heart.

Search Mexican CMBTVS, real self defense, nobody use a knife like that, people don't throw their whole bodyweight, they normally move about the arm only without instability or losing balance, a knife doesn't need strength to pierce you

I appreciate your sharing with the public this way. Aikido has its place, as does every art, its not the art that makes the man, but the man that makes the art. And your art is superb! However, we can't play defense forever, we must move to offense asap if we want to survive a knife attack. I have successfully defended myself against a knife, a sword, and a gun attacks in my youth. So, it can be done but, it is very dangerous. I nearly lost my thumb one time, and got cut each time. Train for life. Good luck. Thanks again. All the best. Laoshr #60 Ching Yi Kung Fu Association
What it seems to me is that you are all tending to push back rather than brush on and take the attacker's balance and since you all have good balance as attackers, you keep your posture and continue attacking. This means that the defenders are largely staying on line and just backing off when they need to be getting off line and entering. In the introduction with the tanto I notice that the attacker is able to extend to his limit before contact whereas we intercept while the arm is in motion in order to achieve kazuichi. There is also the question of whether the defender is moving too early. The attacker needs to be drawn into overextending. We have done this experiment and been mainly successful against random attacks and also developed some exercises to get us there.

Thank you for this training Shirakawa-sensei! Insightful! I think dodging and avoiding is best but only if you are as nimble as these aikido players. Most people would fall, turn their back, or be too slow and get multiple stabbings. Best just to avoid and run away as even w a gun, an attacker w a knife can still get you if within 21 ft. Also, i think most knife attacks involve the attacker grabbing the victim by arm, collar, clothes or hair or bullrushing and pinning victim to a wall or car and stabbing multiple times. Maybe to the detriment of the attacker if victim is practiced in aikido? Thank you much Shirakawa-sensei!

Sí sólo te defiendes ... Sin contraatacar , al final terminas fatal ( puedes parar un par de ataques , pero finalmente uno te da y eso en la vida real es muy peligroso . Saludos cordiales desde Barcelona , España 👍👍👍 .
I was taught that O-Sensei said "Aikido is 90% atemi" and I see that in this knufe attack situation to strike the attacker is the only way to end the attack.
Très bonne démonstration et en plus réaliste. Excellent pour les réflexes même si on sait qu'on a peu de chance devant une attaque au couteau.

Shirakawa Sensei, In Aikido, would it be practical to use the irimi concept when the opponent tries to stab? Maybe you could enter into him deeply if you are fast enough, or if your in-step was deep enough. Then, you could seize his stabbing arm with both of your hands or both of your arms, and guide him to the ground with cylindrical downward momentum. But maybe that would require a 'karate blitz' type of in-step. I say this because the attacker will pull his arm back after stabbing, which means he'll be ready to stab again. An exceptional Aikidoka would have to become like an octopus that strangles and tangles the opponent like the clothes on the attackers body. To envelope an attacker.

Böyle saldırılarda işe yaraması lazım bence , 30 yıldır bunu öğrenenler bile çok zorlandı hatta öldü . yeni başlayan veya hiç savunma bilmeyen birisi anında ölür . Gerçekten çok zor 🤔
Oke. Why attack in such a stupid way with a knife. Few times I saw uke catch with the empty hand and then stabbing, so nage can not get away. And that is how you attack with a knife in real life… catch and stab the hell out of nage. I know we practice a lot of other attacks in aikido with a knife. Hopefully we we will never get attacked, and if so, only in the dumb way. For the clever way is so much more difficult to handle. Thank you for your video’s. I really love the way you all take ukemi. Happy training.

Kicks are better to create distance and always pick up a weapon
You cannot train a defender to develop a habit by moving the hand with the knife back. The attack will not be shown in the actual attack, it will be hidden. When defending, you should not extend your arms too far away from yourself. They will cut you. Or they will grab you and drag you to the knife. You cannot push away the hand with the knife for a long time. An experienced opponent will change the level of attack and go to the head or body. The hand with the knife should be hit with hard, short blows. When there is a possibility of an attack with a knife, and you are alone. The best thing is - legs, legs, carry my ass. The master showed the optimal technique - staying away, not extending your arms, knocking down the knife, leaving the line of attack, and not standing still and constantly moving and no linear movements.

Does it hurt being that stupid? It's a demo. If you're learning principles around a subject do you object that they don't include every variable possible? "But what if....?" posts like yours just demonstrate that you are utterly clueless about what you're watching.
This is not good knife defense training. Often the only reason the defender did not get cut more, is because the attacker was unconciously following a rule of trying thrust at the torso even when the defender's forearms and hands were much easier targets. An attacker that understands knife fighting is truly very scary and dangerous. Using the strategy of just trying to evade and retreat like done here will just get your arms and legs carved up until the loss of blood leaves you too light headed and exhausted and then you will be done in by quick stabs to the torso or neck. The usual Aikido tanto training of a simple full thrust or slash is not what happens is the knife attacker has a modest understanding of knife strategy. Over twenty years ago, I was fortunate to be shown by a senior aikido teacher with a military background (and other arts) how to modify my stance and change tactics to increase the chances of walking away alive. One, a standard aikido stance of one leg forward is a bad idea, the femoral artery of the front leg can too easily become a target. There are lessons from Uechi Ryu karate that should be adapted. Second, you need the mindset of expecting to get cut, trying to avoid getting cut just gets you more cuts and the chance of getting cut in a way that ends your ability to defend yourself - inside arm, inside leg, neck, goes way up, and paradoxically by expecting to be cut, the times you get cut decreases and the cuts are not fight enders, and third, the goal is to truly understand how to use irimi, how to enter so even if you get cut it's not crippling and you gain control and take the opponents balance, what aikido throw that happens then is just a choice in the moment at that point. Some choices are better than others, but that is something to experiment with in training. It should be one that you are able to prevent possible serious cuts as they fall and allows you to eventually control and take the kife. I found this practice to be really good practice and to this day, I've not seen anyone teach this outside of this gentleman who has since passed away. The training by no means makes an experienced knife attacker any less dangerous. You should have no illusions, your chances are better but still not great and the choice to engage should always be a last option. If you see a knife soon enough at a distance, evade and escape is always better. Running isn't always an option so just saying always run isn't wise either. What I see in this video is just the usual practice aikido people do and it really isn't useful as the chances of coming out of it alive are zero. It's not just aikido people that try the poor strategies shown in this video. I've seen other supposedly more "martial" fighters make the same mistakes. It's human nature not to want to get cut. Fortunately, it's unlikely that any of them will ever have to test this.

O-sensei was quoted as saying "Striking is 90% of Aikido." This has been forgotten. Irimi nage to the attacker's head was what I saw as the obvious way to end the attack.

Please explain your reasoning, I'm interested in your knowledge and why you feel that way. I neither agree nor disagree but wish to learn.
@shujinphАй бұрын
@@jonghoonpark8050 as you can see almost all of the knife strike hit the defender, aikido technique is very effective if you know how to use it properly, however it is useless if you get hit by any attack most likely with the weapons, But there is a way you can apply aikido technique effectively if you can control and situation then that's the time it is very effective, as you can see on this training most of the time the attacker with knife control the situation they are in a very bad situation, the solution is too strongly know how to position the feet including your whole body, I noticed that the position of their foot is very near to the attacker's weapon which can strike their hand and body, you can consider also the dodging and deflecting the attack and you can use blocking as the last resort of defense and that's the time you can control the situation and apply aikido technique effectively, I'm also an aikido practitioner for the long time but we do not practice like that, we practiced like we are in the real world scenario. Our knife defense is very far from this training.
