I really like the Beall Wood Buff system for knife handles. I’ve been experimenting with punky old wood handled kitchen knives and stabilizing resin...so far so good.

Always fun to see you craft your art. The pattern in the scales just pops when you put the wax on. Gorgeous!!

Hey Chad, you have done an outstanding job showing and explaining to your viewers how to sand and shape knife handles. You have produced a lot of great videos from the beginning to now. The last two are some of my favourite ones to watch. To view behind the scene work, for me, is so satisfying. I have just got to this video a week late. I have been off the youtube scene for over a week dealing with a health issue. I received a package from you which surprised me and really made my day, great timing my friend. I will send you an email today, anyway I tip my hat to you sir, you have made another awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Tony.

Tony Patey ... Hey Tony! Thanks for being around. Your one of the first 100 if not less that’s been in this journey with me and my family. I got your email and my family was so grateful for the kind words. Glad you received your package!

Great video, I do my scales pretty much the same. Now I just have to find a place that sells that wax. Keep on sanding my friend.

Gene Clifford ... I did a video a while back with a link but just hit up Amazon and you’ll find it. I’ve never seen it in the normal box stores in my area

I’m a new subscriber to the channel. I found you while researching the Blackfox 2x72 belt grinder. Thank you for the detail on finishing the knife scales. I have learned from your video things that I can use in my knife making. Keep up the good work! Blessings!

Chad, thanks for sharing. The video was quite interesting, as I was not aware of the level of effort required to finish your knife scales.

It's always interesting seeing different knifemakers techniques & how they go about making & finishing knives. I got big hands, so I always forget and make my handles big to fit my hands... Also, I don't know if it is because I mainly do removable scales, but even with epoxied handles I finish 95% before even gluing up, that way any little problems & the handle isn't stuck. I don't know if i missed it, but do you do the front of the scale before glue up? Great video, hope all is well. Take it easy

Dave Evader Knives ... Hey Dave! Yes, that’s what’s so cool about knife making, it’s so much makers personality and that’s what is so cool about what we do. I do cut and shape the scales roughly and yes, I sand and clean the “shoulders” of the scales prior to gluing them up. Depending on the material, I’ll was and hit them in the buffer too.

Hi, I' m interested to know what the tapered tang is all about? I've seen it somewhere else but don't get the relevance of it, good video though, it is an area I'm struggling with a bit in my knifemaking, thanks..

Beautiful knife. Did I understand you correctly, your Mosaic pin does not go through the tang, only the scale?
@CKKnifeandTool
@CKKnifeandTool 4 жыл бұрын
B well ... Yes. It can if you wanted but these did not. The pins are rather pricey so I try to get as many knives from one stick as I can. Each decorative pin is cut at around 1/4” and then set. The accompanying pins do go all the way through. Doing it this way, I get three knives vs. two if the pin was solid all the way through. Then there’s the pins that have to be reversed from one side of the scales than the other. Like initials.

Would you use that was on other materials like micarta, G10 or just wood? Great channel
@CKKnifeandTool
@CKKnifeandTool 4 жыл бұрын
B well .... If you want to really shine G10 or Micarta, using a buffer and a polishing rouge (white, pink or green) on a wheel or simply using a rag style wheel on a bench grinder would polish them. Afterwards, you could use Renaissance Wax. It’s used on wood, metal, leather and even paintings

To shape the handle are you using ceramic or a/o belts? Thanks from Florida

I use both. It just depends on what grit and what was in-sock when I ordered.
