The reason the handle was covered with decarb was because I left it out in the air to cool, but the the blade still had scale too......Hope everyone's having a great weekend... If you have any questions leave them in the comments... Knives, shirts, amazon affiliate links & more at www.daveerving.com/ Have a great day...

I think you are dead on Dave. Anti scale is an important consumable. I have been doing a bit of research in how to make an anti scale and have come back with some interesting results to say the least.. Great video .. Martin

Yeah, I've bought the powder & the stuff I show in the picture(ATP641)... They do both last forever, but the powder is just a pain. You have to heat up the knife, then sprinkle it on the blade, it never goes on even, and gets all clumpy. Then back in the oven... the paint on stuff, just apply & let dry... Thanks, take it easy..

Wish I could say great video but I’m kinda lost when it comes to heat treating. I’ve got to go back and learn from the beginning to appreciate what you’re doing now. I’ll get there !!!

See when you heat treat a blade it goes through many stages, long story short oxidation forms decarbanation on the blade(the black coating) the higher the heat, the worse the decarb(which is why with stainless you use SS foil packets)... Anti-scale prevents this. I have been wanting to try it with a torch, because heat treating with a burner introduces the most oxidation of them all(fire needs oxygen, etc).

I see you do this all the time, but why do you wrap wire around the blade?
