Hey guys and girls... if there are any even here lol. I have been a blacksmith for two years now making knifes and decorative pieces and I don't think I will ever stop, I just wanted to say thank you make and create I've drawn so much inspiration from this channel and have just started my first sword! It's going to be a short broadsword. but anyhow I also wanted to appreciate that you don't have many power tools like big hammers and whatnot making your work more by hand than machine. I don't use power tools much either I've got some hammers and an anvil, I also don't use a propane forge I use coal it makes me feel more like a genuine blacksmith. also no hate to propane users. thank you!

I did not expect for you to use an angle grinder like that. You put an edge on the knife before you finished the handle. I usually do the sharpening last after everything is done, just for safety reasons. Otherwise it's a good knife and a good video, enjoyed it.

Great video and merry Christmas! I’m not hassling you this is just a question. Why did you sharpen the knife before you put on the handle? It seems like that made everything more dangerous and you aren’t cutting anything with it til it’s done. I just don’t understand why the knife needed to be hair shaving sharp for the second half of the build. Again just an honest question.
@MakeNCreate4 жыл бұрын

@@MakeNCreate electric welding will damage the heattreat. If you weld before headtreat make sure to do enough thermal cycles since it will stress the steel. (Even thoughI wouldnt recommend welding it)

Quick question what is the baking soda used for?
@MakeNCreate4 жыл бұрын
The ferric chloride used to etch the steel is an acid and baking soda is a base. So making a solution of it in water works well to neutralize the acid so I don't get burned.

Oh I thought it was for cleaning it, but that makes sense

Keep your blade clean and dry. use a sheath. If you're in really humid conditions apply so sort of oil or grease to the steel.

Soldered guards used to be more common. You are using the wrong torch and improper technique soldering... I suggest giving it up unless you really want to do it.

Seems a dangerous thing to do, sharpen the blade before final assembly and finishing. Both for you and the knife edge, the edge, when honed is much more easily damaged.
