well quenched steel have hardness about 62-65HRC and can scratch glass, bad one can't do that.

If it has a hardness level high enough to scratch the glass, it's fine. If it can't scratch the glass, he would reject it.

@@Koss-channel Oh, ok. Mostly see people check hardness with a file, never seen it done with glass. Learn something new everyday. Thank you for a quick response too! 👍

@@austinkreiger1765 well.... doing it with glass is on the safer side. A friend of mine tested his knife with an aggressive file and practically took the whole edge away with one swing.... it was still soft like butter and he had to scrape it. Glass can't do anything to steel. So if you don't have material you can grind of, go for the glass

The thing is, modern katanas are better because they are made from iron unlike older days katanas that wete made from iron dust and would break after line, two hits
@MercenaryJames
@MercenaryJames 4 жыл бұрын
@@NiCoNiCoNiCola You realize that you basically said "modern katana are better because they are made of iron, not like old swords that were made from iron" right? Iron dust is still iron. The correct answer is steel. Both modern and old katana were made of steel. The difference is modern steel can be mass produced to a high quality standard with few impurities. Where as before they had to rely on bloomery steel made by taking the raw iron and melting it down in a massive furnace. This produced large amounts of steel but of varying quality and carbon content. This is why Japanese Smith's would use different pieces (both soft and hard) to forge their blades. Specifically, the soft core that's more flexible, and the harder outer shell to retain an edge. This was done for the sole reason to ensure they do not "break after two hits". No one would spend weeks or months on a weapon that would break so easily.
