Thanks for the info. I just started recently and purchased some O1, A2 and 1095 bars to play around with. The A2 is very hard before even doing any heat treating and it takes a lot of time on the grinder to remove a little material.

I've never tried A2, but that's what I've heard.

Dave cool video. You had me rolling first the bush then the grass lol I thought for sure you were going to get rid of some weeds lol.. You got it right with using the FB set them up were there is a way you can set the torch down and put the knife in and out of the stack of brick.. Love it I look forward to seeing what you come up with for the simple HT.. Martin

Yeah, I was completely unprepared, I saw on Sunday that it would be warm, but did the oven HT Monday... I rushed it, but best thing about failing, you learn what NOT to do next time, hahaha...

Haha Dave this was awesome. I feel so much better now. When I tried the weed torch I held the knife with the long handled forge pliers that I had to keep squeezing tight to not drop the knife and it was to hard to rotate the blade to heat both sides and then squeezing the torch with my other hand whew I think I tore all the muscles in my forearms and then trying to hold my magnet. My arms were sore for 3 days 😂. I agree with that by my failure I know now how to make it work. I told ya I made a forge but it too failed. It was to big for my heat source to heat up. I know how to fix it too. Failure is not bad it’s really just progress. I now know what not to do and can see what I need to do to make it work!!! You had me lmao 😂 though. Loved it. Thanks for not being afraid to show this because it will help people skip a few mistakes. I just wish I’d have seen it sooner. 😂

Have you thought about taking a hole saw and putting a hole in the top and using the weed torch in the forge? Just make sure most of the torch cylinder is outside the forge, then you could even close the door... Because the torch has plenty of power, same power a regular burner has... you might have to mess with how it sits on the barrell & tie down the lever, but I would bet it would work amazing

Yes I’m studying using the weed torch in the forge. Maybe alter the end of the torch. Make it a little smaller. I definitely need to use propane because one small tank of map gas doesn’t last long enough to do much with it continuously burning. I’ll keep you posted
@evaderknives
@evaderknives 5 жыл бұрын
@@e.t.preppin7084 Yeah definitely... just make sure you don't cover up the end, that is where it gets its air mixture... You need the right air to propane for the torch to run smooth

As a follow up comment. Definitely do the torch treating in the dark so you can see the glow of the blade as it gets hot. I’ve had success in my charcoal and wood grill with a blower to get the fire really hot and it’s really cool to see the blade as it turns different colors of red and orange!!!

Yeah, like i was telling martin, I saw on Sunday it would be warm, didn't prepare at all, not to mention, I haven't used that torch in YEARS, hahaha... I'll definitely do a better one...

Can you make a hammon on o1 steel
@evaderknives
@evaderknives 4 жыл бұрын
Not a visible one. Basically, hamons just make it so everything under the clay is softer, but on steels like 1095 & W2 it leaves a nice line too

Man I just realized I bought the wrong eyelet press. Mine is for # 0# 2 #4. That’s 80 bucks wasted. What would you recommend and I believe I need one for 8 by 1/4”

Yeah that’s the brand of press I’m gonna have to buy. I have that one bookmarked. The press I bought won’t take those flaring dies I have to buy a new press and the 8-1/4 die separately. About 110 bucks more. Ugh. Hey if ya have a tarp that needs new eyelets I’ve got the tool for that 😂😂😂 the CKK master press isn’t in your Amazon links is it. I’d buy it through your link but I don’t think that company is on Amazon. I’ll look
